Chapter 1517: Morning Exercise

Ning woke up to a loud alarm on the side of his bed that he hadn't even realized was there. The small metal plate was quite inconspicuous to Ning's perception, as he hadn't come into contact with something that looked like it and was also a tech of some sort.

He tapped around the thing until it turned off.

Ning wanted to learn more about the technology, but it was morning and he had some exercise to do. He had been added to the system as a Cadet, so he had to complete his tasks.

Ning walked out into the hallway and followed a group of other cadets who were also making their way to the training ground on one of the lower floors.

Nobody greeted Ning or even acknowledged his presence. His arrival was met with indifference as everyone seemed to have their own small group to talk with.

A higher-ranking officer arrived and began the morning exercises.

The morning exercises were more akin to gym workouts, with the people doing their best to get faster, stronger, and improve their stamina.

To Ning, the exercises were very simple, and he easily completed them all without breaking a sweat. Perhaps that had been a little too surprising as a few people came to ask him how he was doing that.

Ning had no explanation except that he simply could. Those people still stayed with Ning, training with him, and using him as motivation.

After a while, their exercises were finally over.

"Go have your breakfast and head to your duties," the officer said and left.

Ning walked to the cafeteria with the group, somewhat establishing his presence among the cadets. The food in the cafeteria was simple, but tasty and had a lot of variety.

That surprised Ning a bit as he hadn't expected the food in this place to have variety. He fully expected the food here to be simple slops of something with no flavor.

After breakfast, Ning returned to his room where he could apparently check his duties for the day.

Ning pulled out the metal plate that had made the alarm sound that morning. The metal plate was connected to nothing, and there was no place to unlatch the thing and see inside.

He saw a small circular hole at the center of the plate and remembered seeing this thing yesterday. Without waiting, he pulled out his Crystal ID sphere and placed it in the hole.

Something inside the hole activated, and the sphere started spinning until it stopped. Then, a bright light flashed out of the plate, forming a massive holographic screen of information that seemed to hover around him.

Ning was surprised to see all the information float around him. He tried to move his hand to touch the information, but to his surprise, his hands were behind all the information.

The images themselves were translucent so Ning could see his hands, but the hologram that was supposed to be in front of him was not in front of him.

Ning was confused for a few seconds until he focused on his other modes of vision, and tried to look at the hologram through them.

The hologram didn't exist at all.

"How?" Ning couldn't help but ask. He moved his head, and the hologram followed him. He could move his eyes and the information he wanted to focus on would present itself before him.

As he was testing out things, the hologram suddenly disappeared when he moved his head very out of the way. He put his head back in view of the plate and the hologram was restored.

Ning tested out a bit more and finally understood what was happening.

"This thing is directly projecting the image into my retinas!"

That was quite the surprising discovery he had made about the plate in front of him. He wasn't sure what it was called just yet, but it seemed to have a projector inside of it that could directly send light into his retinas to make him think there were holograms floating around him.

It also had to be tracking his eyes to make the hologram stay in place.

"That's quite the amazing technology," Ning thought. "Did these people come up with it?"

Lost in the thought, Ning finally remembered that he was supposed to look at what his duties

were.

"Shit!" he thought, and quickly looked through his information.

There was the standard information about his name, age, and place of origin which the System had set as quite standard. He was Ning Ruogong, age 22, from the City 3.

One could argue he should have been older in age, but he looked young enough to pass for a 22-year-old. He doubted people would question it anyway.

He found out about his financial status. He owned 12,800 Jiubels, but he had no concept of this currency, so he wasn't sure just how rich he was.

Could he purchase 500 grams of Spark?

Thankfully, there was a transaction history that Ning got to open up after focusing on it for a second. There were many purchases he had made throughout his lifetime, but the one that was real was the very first one.

He had purchased 5 grams of Spark for 200 Jiubels. So while he didn't have enough for 500 grams, he did have enough for 250 grams of Spark.

Ning looked through the rest of the transactions to get a slightly better understanding of the currency. It appeared that to be rich, he needed hundreds of thousands of Jiubels.

"Let's forget about that for now," Ning thought and focused his attention on his duties that were listed at the very top, given to him by the military.

For today, his duty was to replace the elevator operator on elevator 12 and work there from 9

to 5.

It was a boring job from what Ning could read, but it was something given by the military, so he couldn't refuse. He had chosen this life, so now he had to live it.
