Once Ning dealt with the woman’s issue and let her meet her real father, he returned to the tavern quickly to deal with the other two issues.

Only an hour remained before the soldiers were going to leave. They had delayed their departure for him, and still, he wasn’t sure if he could make it in time. He had 2 people to help after all.

Both the old man and the young man had come at once. He spent a few moments talking with the Spirits attached to them and came to understand that the place they had to go to was on the same side of the city.

Which meant he could take the two along with him at the same time.

The young man suggested they hire a carriage since he realized Ning was in a hurry.

“You don’t have to,” Ning said. “Carriages cost a bit after all.”

“That’s alright,” the young man said. “I have started a successful business and have the money for it. I’ll pay.”

Ning raised an eyebrow. “Really?” he asked. “Mind if I ask why you came to me instead of having already paid for some other Spirit Detective?”

“I didn’t know if I had a Spirit following me or not,” the young man said. “I had only come to check that, and you ended up agreeing to help me instead.”

Ning nodded thankfully. “Thank you. Then I will accept the carriage,” he said.

They got on a carriage a few minutes later and began making their way through the city. “Do you know where your son lives aside from the general location?” Ning asked.

“Yes,” the old man said. “I’ve kept an eye on him from time to time.”

“Why did you guys disown him in the first place? Your wife seemed to regret it a lot,” Ning said.

“Drugs and drinking,” the old man said. “He was a 35-year-old man with no job, no family, nothing. He spent all his day gambling. What he earned, he spent on drugs, booze, and women. If he lost, he would come home to ask for more money.”

“We didn’t want to, but we couldn’t let someone like that stay in our life. One day, we decided it was for the best to just kick him out of our lives.”

Ning fell silent. He supposed he could understand the reason behind the disowning. “And why did your wife regret it? It doesn’t seem like the thing to regret,” he said.

“Because he’s turned around his life,” the old man said. “After we disowned him, he seems to have come to his senses. He stopped doing drugs and drinking all day. He found himself a good job. He’s also found himself a good wife and has two children. The oldest of them should be 5 now. I saw them from time to time.”

“My wife regrets it because she thinks that instead of kicking him out, we could’ve just talked with him instead,” the old man said. “Although, I’m not sure if that could’ve helped him at all. Still, now that he’s changed so much, I wish to rekindle our connection as well.”

“I think it’s a good thing you’re doing this,” the middle-aged man to the side said. “Your son will understand why you guys had to kick him out. And I’m sure he regrets things having come to such a point as well.”

The old man nodded.

They reached the neighborhood where the old man’s son lived and stopped the carriage. The old man got out and walked toward the house that belonged to his son.

It wasn’t a big house. His son wasn’t suddenly rich. But it was a decent house for a person who had recovered from his horrible situation in the past.

“Do we wait or do we leave?” the middle-aged man asked.

“I would like to wait to see what happens,” Ning said. “Is that alright?”

“Of course. The pawnshop should be opening just about now anyway,” the man said and waited along.

Ning watched the old man from the carriage and waited until his son came out and began chatting. Very soon the two hugged each other and the old man turned toward the carriage and gave a wave and a smile before walking into the house.

Ning saw the small ding where his system notified him of his quest success. Now, he was off to the final one.

Ning talked to the father of the middle-aged man and found out more about the pawnshop. Then, he finally reached the place where the pawnshop was located.

He got off, along with the middle-aged man, and walked into the pawn store.

The middle-aged man recognized the heirloom immediately. He was glad to see that it was still there. It was a simple necklace, nothing more. It wasn’t even that

Ning waited by the side while the man negotiated with the owner on how much he could buy the necklace for.

After a long talk, the man bought the necklace for 3 gold coins, which surprised Ning quite a bit.

“That was expensive, wasn’t it?” Ning asked.

“3 gold coins? It is, but it is also worth it,” the man said. “I was trying to open my business last year but lacked part of the funds. My father knew that and sold this to pay for my business. He passed away shortly after and my business boomed much later.”

“Thanks to this, I’m now the owner of a very successful business and my father was the one who made it happen,” he said.

Ning smiled. “I’m happy for you,” he said. He was notified of the quest’s success, so he walked out of the pawnshop, ready to return to the shedding where he hoped they would still be waiting for him.

Although, it was time for them to begin leaving, so maybe he would have to catch them on the road.

A group of people walked in front of him at that very point, stopping him from walking any further.

Ning looked up at them. “Can I help you?”
