The spies weren’t the only ones, in his orchard, Xhu Zhi was also speechless. How did things get to this point? These guys were nuts!
But, the players weren’t done yet.
“I’ve learned from you guys! So that’s how you survive! Forming a symbiotic relationship with the native giant beasts and turning ourselves into one of their organs is the answer! I’m a hair and I’ll need to bond with a giant beast by turning myself into an “ahoge” on top of its head. (?)”
“To the person above, that place is too obvious! It’ll be easy for the PKers to find you, you have to hide yourself! You’re a hair right? How about… turning yourself into a giant beast’s armpit hair? (?)”
“Guys, want to form a party?”
“Right, we, the players of ordinary organs, should team up! After all, there’s nothing in it for us if we kill one another. We’re not like those muscle players who can take in other organs.”
“I’ve PMed you.”
…
These people were no longer posting screenshots or asking for help online. They’ve hidden themselves and were only talking in private.
As a matter of fact, the spies hadn’t expected that people would notice after only 20 players had been ambushed. They had underestimated how competent people on the net could be. Thought the netizens were eccentric, none of them were stupid.“These players have a very good mindset. Not bad at all.”
Xu Zhi was leisurely eating his apple, savoring every single bite.
“But no matter how vigilant they are, most ordinary players wouldn’t be able to evade those 7 professionally trained trackers and investigators. I fear that there won’t be more than 30 people remaining by the end. It might even be as little as 5 and 6.”
In this battle royale, a bunch of tigers had been released against a flock of sheep.
Xhu Zhi was looking forward to seeing how many of these sheep would grow strong amidst adversity and survive until the end to become tigers themselves.
The fewer of them remained, the better.
Xhu Zhi was a dispassionate Creator. “After all, they’ve already completed their mission of ‘Evolving New Species’, and the Evil God has been released into the large sandbox; leaving these serfs in there would be pointless. Now that I got what I wanted, it’s time to get rid of them en masse by taking advantage of those 7 people.”
“Those 7 have the backing of the top research institutes in the world. They’d do everything in their power to develop their forces, advance civilization, enhance their own power, and defeat their opponents.”
He’d benefit from their conflict and walk away the winner without really having to do anything.
Xu Zhi turned his attention to Chen Xi’s situation. She was nominally his girlfriend after all and he should look out for her somewhat.
“I gave her a pretty good position. Unlike those other “short hair” players, the hair she’s in charge of is very long and very fine. If you tie them up, they can kinda act as muscles and join various organs together. If she plays her cards right, she should be able to unite other players and become their leader… You can even say that she’s the hidden 14th member of the Council of Thirteen.”
The other players hadn’t expected that they’d be broken apart and should be busily rebuilding their organs.
Xu Zhi, who had planned everything in advance, had paved the way for Chen Xi so that she would be able to compete with the 13 “muscle” players.
…
In a dark forest, a piece of the scalp had joined up with a bunch of hair.
I Love Learning: “Ha ha ha, to think that us girls weren’t separated, and are still together!”
Tin Foil: “The scalp is the closest part to the hair after all. We’re companions.”
I Love Learning: “What do you think we should do next? Wanna play Werewolf or go join the Battle Royale?”
Tin Foil thought for a moment then replied: “I only joined this game to enjoy the scenery. I wanted to be screenarcher; violence is not suitable for us girls.”
I Love Learning: “So what do you suggest?”
Tin Foil: “How about we work together to make some money? We’ll buy an estate, live in a luxurious manor, study the local cuisine, cook delicious meals together, and go on leisurely strolls. We’ll go on a sightseeing trip around the world! I want to see the Firmiana Tree growing within the depths of the magnificent desert! I want to see the Evil Eyes in their natural habitat of the great swamp! I also want to see the Clock Tower of the Babylonian Capital and the Wonder of the World, Adolphus!”
This girl had a travel itinerary all drawn up and ready for her sightseeing trip in the otherworld.
I Love Learning: “Fine, it’s not like we could beat those guys anyway. We laid back players have our own way of enjoying this game. A sightseeing trip it is, then. We will go into hiding from this moment forth and never join up with them…
But, how are we going to make money? Another player similar to us said online that he didn’t want to participate in the Battle Royale either. He was gonna raise some small animals, plant fruit bearing trees, crossbreed them, and then make some wine. He was planning to make money by selling wine since this world’s wine tastes very bad; its wine making technology is still too primitive.”
“Ah! Is he a farming game connoisseur? As for us girls… we’ll make money by writing novels!”
Chen Xi said that while she may not be much of a gamer, she was a pretty good writer since she was a big fan of novels. “We’ll learn the native language, then work as translators! Their civilization is too inadequate! There’s no wine culture, no music, no novels! All their books are either historical biographies, or dry magic tomes!
The Emperor of Alchemy introduced science and technology when he transmigrated, and now it’s our turn to bring them culture! We’ll plagiarize our world’s novels, translate them, and add color and variety to the otherworld’s civilization!”
I Love Learning: “That’s a good method to make money! The transmigrating main characters in many novels I’ve read started their careers by doing this. We’ll have to find books that fit the culture of this world, such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, etc… I’m really looking forward to how those stories will be received!”
Chen Xi got more excited the more they talked: “It’ll be fun, right? We should also plagiarize eastern works as well, like The Legend of the Condor Heroes or Journey to the West. I’m sure they’ll sell! While on our sightseeing trip, we’ll act as wandering bards, telling stories and selling books!”
Their plan was coming along nicely, and they were about to start learning the native language when they ran into a problem: How were they going to acquire pen and paper?
I Love Learning: “Can’t your ‘Hair’ species be used as pens? And my ‘Scalp’ can be turned into parchment. We just have to create as many offspring as we can, and we’ll have our pen and paper. This is fate! We’ve been chosen by Heaven to bring culture to this world!”
That was indeed the case.
The scalp could be processed into vellum, and the hair could be used as needle and thread to knit black letters onto the parchment, acting like a pen.
Furthermore they could even imitate a printer by laying out 100 vellum pages and having a hundred hairs copy their King’s movements exactly. They’d be able to mass produce books this way. How very convenient.
“She wants to write books?”
When Xu Zhi saw this, he pinched the bridge of his nose. “I put you in charge of long hair so that you could become a queen, not for you to knit letters. Such a peaceful and easy going girl.”
He did not really mind, though. As long as she was having fun, then everything was fine.
“But, I do not think that those two girls would last very long. They’ll live for a year or two at most before getting eliminated like everyone else. They should treat this as vacation.”
He turned away.
Meanwhile, in the Kingdom of Babylon.
Bad news kept arriving one after another.
“Demonic beasts who’ve been infected by the Evil God’s organs are now appearing all over the world.”
“Your majesty, everywhere in the Three Kingdoms—from the high mountain ranges to the deep desert, from desolate hovels to busy streets—bizarre events keep happening one after another, and people keep on disappearing.”
“In the middle of the night, an evil tome can be found wandering the streets, greeting everyone it meets with profane words and making them run away in terror. Our citizens are deeply unsettled by this.”
Empress Medusa sat on her throne while listening to her ministers’ reports with half-lidded eyes. “Even a notebook is walking and talking? What a terrifying Evil God, we’re only up against its scattered organs right now, and yet…”
