Chapter 487: Chapter 485 Gerry

Sky Flow Valley.

Martial law was intended for outsiders; for those in the exploration zone, it had no impact at all, and they went about their business as usual.

Over time, the area occupied by the return tower grew increasingly expansive, even its outer protective layers had been purposely revamped once.

“Ivan, do you still stand by what you said before?”

Ivan had just finished his task when Hotis approached him, sneakily muffling his voice to prevent it from carrying.

“What are you talking about, a story?” Ivan feigned ignorance.

“What story? I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m talking about the wine and the correspondence. Didn’t you say you were sending Korram to the Underground Komor Empire?” Hotis said.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about either, wine or otherwise. There’s none here. Perhaps you should just send Korram to East Capital instead,” Ivan glanced at him.

“No way, you, a great scholar, how could you go back on your word?”

“Did I say that? By the way, you’ve been acting strangely lately, always lingering here and not leaving. I hope you’re not using this as an excuse to hide from someone.”

“Joke’s on you. I, Hotis, a distinguished Arcane Wizard, can go anywhere in the sorcerer world. Why would I need to hide from anyone? Never mind, there’s a minor issue at the gate of the Star Realm; I need to go check it out.”

Seeing Hotis’s suspicious gaze, he forced himself to act calm and quickly made up an excuse to leave.

His speed was enough to make a Level 3 Sorcerer sigh in envy.

Ivan was even more astonished by Hotis’s behavior.

If it was just a matter between a man and a woman, both being of the arcane level, both of equal strength and standing, they shouldn’t be acting so awkwardly.

Why would that be?

What could push a carefree person to this extent?

Ivan considered himself quite intelligent, yet no matter how much he racked his brain, he couldn’t fathom why Hotis would behave in such a way.

“No wonder people often say, the longer you live, the more bizarre things you see.”

“Great scholar, what bizarre things?”

Nelson approached, having just heard him muttering to himself.

“I’ve realized that 10,000 meters isn’t the limit for the return tower,” Ivan replied, abruptly changing the subject.

“Eh—you’re right, the return tower indeed has quite a bit of capacity left. I was just about to ask you if we should expand it further to better measure various data?”

Nelson choked slightly but continued along the lines of Ivan’s diversion.

“Let’s test the current data first, then expand to the maximum distance. We do prioritize efficiency, understand?” Ivan instructed.

“Alright, I’ll handle it right away.”

Nelson caught on and immediately set to work, as who else but the leading scholar was in charge?

Time flew by.

The fifth stage of the return tower was successfully completed after a year and several days, ultimately extending the teleportation distance to 11,800 meters, far exceeding the initial targets.

After Ivan declared this phase complete, applause thundered throughout the independent area.

All the sorcerers clapped, the applause for themselves, for their hard work during this period.

As for the next target, Ivan didn’t announce it right away. He hadn’t decided whether to choose 20,000 meters or 30,000 meters and needed to discuss it with others.

“Ivan, you’re being too modest. Nowadays, with no news being released externally, even President Doradoli hasn’t been informed,”

That day, Hotis also attended. His mood was undoubtedly pleasant, his only concern being that the news was confined to their group, lacking the thrill of widespread excitement.

“Let’s talk about it next time.”

In front of others, Ivan naturally had to save some face for Hotis, otherwise, he would have definitely retorted that not every Arcane Wizard has as much leisure time as him.

“By the way, you haven’t mentioned, what will it be next time?15,000 meters, or 20,000—”

Hotis was curiously inquiring when he paused and turned his head to one side because someone had brightly intruded.

Seeing the tall figure who had walked in, Hotis’s face immediately took on an unnatural expression.

“Grerry, what are you doing here?” The speaker was Tanaya, who was standing by; she took a few steps to greet her.

“I’ve requested permission from President Doradoli, and he has allowed me to visit. I specifically came to see Scholar Marichadon,” Grerry explained, her tone serious and deliberate.

“Have I come at a bad time?”

“No, the speech just ended, right, Great Scholar?”

“Yes, just like Tanaya said, we’ve just finished. Grerry, welcome to the research grounds of the return tower,”

As their gazes fell on him, Ivan waved at the others, indicating that they could continue their discussion later, subtly revealing the identity of the visitor in his words.

Grerry, being of arcane level, naturally encountered no objections from the others.

“Scholar Marichadon, I’m delighted to meet you.” Ivan was just about to approach when Grerry quickly moved forward first, her face squeezing out a genial smile.

She seemed like a woman who wasn’t used to smiling, her smile giving Ivan a sense of reluctance, and appearing somewhat dazed.

On the contrary, when she had been serious and earnest before, she gave off an impression of shrewdness and competence.

“You are too kind, I am also very pleased to meet you,” Ivan said, not daring to delay his response.

“Scholar Marichadon.”

“Yes?”

“Thank you for giving Tanaya a glimpse of hope.”

“Ah, this—”

As he watched her stammer, Ivan thought she was going to question him, but suddenly, Gerry bowed deeply to him, causing Ivan to hurriedly step back.

Tanaya said Gerry was her protector.

To truly regard an arcane-level expert as a mere protector was utterly foolish, at least Ivan couldn’t do it, nor did he want to give others any reason to accuse him of lacking proper respect for the powerful.

“Anyway, thank you,” Gerry said calmly, seemingly unbothered.

“Master Gerry, Sorcerer Tanaya, this place isn’t ideal for talking; should we find somewhere to talk more?” Ivan asked, worried she might do something startling.

“Please.” Seeing Gerry nod her head, Tanaya had no choice but to act the host.

“Master Hotis, join us.”

As they moved toward a more secluded area, Ivan shouted to an arcane wizard pretending to be the “Invisibility Man.”

Seeing his invisibility scheme exposed, Hotis’s eyes widened in disbelief, his expression betraying a sense of betrayal.

“Hotis, come along, there are matters to discuss,” Gerry said.

“Alright—okay.” Hotis agreed reluctantly, his face tense as he followed behind.

Soon, the group of four reached Tanaya’s residence. Mara had not come; she and Tanaya didn’t want to reveal their true relationship in front of Gerry.

Throughout the walk, Ivan’s mind had mostly returned to calm.

He had noticed, just as Tanaya had said, that the relationship between Gerry and Tanaya was indeed close, as evident from Gerry’s humble gesture of thanks.

“I have convinced Gerry, and now she’s one of us,” Tanaya declared openly once they had sat down.

“That’s great, haha,” Hotis said, laughing awkwardly.

“So, that means we just need to follow the original plan without any further actions, right?” Ivan cut straight to the core of the issue.

“Exactly, Gerry will stay here for a while. With her joining, Sky Flow Valley will be more secure,” Tanaya nodded.

What? This woman is staying!

Hearing this, Hotis felt uneasy.

“That’s good, the return tower has reached a teleportation distance of 10,000 meters. According to my estimates, we need about three to five more years to complete the entire plan,” Ivan continued.

“Hmm, that bit of time is nothing; I’ll try to max out my training in the Knight’s Path during this period.”

Inside Tanaya’s living room, a rather odd scene unfolded, two Level 3 Sorcerers chattering about random topics while the two grand lords sat beside them, silent but listening intently.

“Both of you, since we’re all in the same airship, feel free to speak openly.”

Ivan and Tanaya weren’t meeting for the first time and didn’t need to make idle chatter. Seeing that the other two showed no inclination to interject, he laid things out straightforwardly.

“Scholar Marichadon, where is your Book of Enlightenment?” Gerry asked as if instructed.

“Master Gerry, you can call me ‘Ivan’ or ‘Sorcerer Ivan,’” Ivan replied without suspicion, pulling out the token of the Five Leaves Spear—the Book of Enlightenment.

“You can also call me ‘Gerry.’”

“I’ll try.”

To his amazement, Gerry took out an even more exquisite Book of Enlightenment, from which a massive force transmitted onto the Book of Enlightenment in his hand.

This was the Prophet’s Power.

In an instant, four more Prophet’s marks appeared on his Book of Enlightenment, which originally had only one.

“Five is the maximum your Book of Enlightenment can carry,” Gerry explained with a hint of regret after completing the gesture.

“Thank you, I was just worrying about running out. But, this does not break the rules of the Five Leaves Spear, does it?” Ivan’s eyes sparkled, then he glanced at the others.

“As long as the legacy of the righteous Star Ancestor holds, after you become an arcane wizard, you can manage the Prophet’s Treasure Tome of the Five Leaves Spear,” Gerry stated.

“No problem, I really don’t want to meddle in affairs of the Five Leaves Spear anymore,” Tanaya said indifferently, responding to his look.

Hearing their words, Hotis hesitated, eventually just sighing without commenting.

“Let’s talk about future matters in the future; I am still far from becoming a Level 4 Sorcerer.” Ivan didn’t dwell on these matters; arcane and Level 3 Sorcery were nearly worlds apart, and discussing it further was pointless.

“Before Tanaya’s issue is resolved, neither you nor she can afford any trouble.” At that moment, Gerry took out a heap of objects from her Space Ring and pushed them towards Ivan.

Ivan’s eyes almost popped out, caught between taking them and not.

They were all arcane scrolls!
