Chapter 2037: Qiao Xuan’s Anger
The impact reverberated through her body with such force that it seemed to echo from miles away. Her heart throbbed with pain, her veins pulsing with fury as her eyes blazed crimson.
What a despicable woman!
With a disdainful frown, the lady shot a reproachful glance at Qiao Xuan, her displeasure evident.
Seizing the opportunity, the maid, who had been attempting to comfort her mistress, addressed Qiao Xuan brusquely. “Madam, kindly step aside. Your presence is disrupting our Miss.”
At that moment, Nanny and the others rushed over, alarmed by the commotion. Concern etched across their faces as they inquired about the situation.
Seeing Anan in distress only deepened their anguish.
Qiao Xuan pressed a tender kiss to Anan’s forehead, soothing him with gentle words. Wiping away his tears, she entrusted him to Nanny’s care, instructing her to take him downstairs.
With no male guests present on the upper floor, Ah-Ye and the others remained below, unaware of the unfolding drama.
Sensing Qiao Xuan’s simmering anger, Nanny cradled Anan in her arms, comforting him as they descended the stairs.
There were some things Qiao Xuan wished to shield Anan from witnessing.
As soon as Nanny descended the stairs with Anan in her arms, Qiao Xuan wasted no time in delivering a resounding slap to the maid who had caused Anan’s fall. The maid recoiled, shielding her face as she let out a piercing scream.
Startled, the young lady and her servant joined in the uproar, the former rising indignantly from her seat. “Why did you strike her?” she demanded, her voice quivering with fury.
Qiao Xuan regarded her with icy disdain, her lip curling in a sneer. With a swift motion, she delivered another slap to the maid’s face, her gaze piercing as she pointed an accusatory finger. “Why did I hit you? Do you even comprehend the gravity of your servant’s actions? Why don’t you inquire about the misdeeds of this wretched creature?”
The young lady seethed with rage, her entire frame trembling with indignation. To have her maid publicly humiliated in her presence was a flagrant disregard for her authority as mistress.
Arrogant, insufferably arrogant!
The maid’s cheeks flamed red, swelling from the impact as she sobbed, pleading, “Miss, please stand up for me! I’ve done nothing wrong!”
Unable to bear the injustice any longer, Zixian interjected, her voice tinged with outrage. “Miss, are you blind to the truth? The young master posed no threat to you. Why then did you trip him as he ran past? He’s but a child, and your actions were needlessly cruel!”
As the wife of the Prefect, Qiao Xuan commanded respect from the people of the Prefecture. Having witnessed such injustice firsthand, Zixian felt compelled to speak out, unafraid of the consequences.
There’s no need to mince words—the maidservant’s protestations were met with swift rejection.
Yet, she persisted, crying out, “Stop slandering me! We’re outsiders here. Your companion is clearly biased against us outsiders! I didn’t trip him at all. He’s just a child. Why would I even bother arguing with him? It’s obvious he was the one being careless—Ah!”
Qiao Xuan silenced her with two more resounding slaps, her voice laced with condemnation. “You dare deny it, wretched creature! Zixian and I witnessed your deeds firsthand, and we stand by our account! Who do you think you are? You’re not even worthy of my scorn!”
At that moment, two other young women, accompanied by their maidservants, approached, their disapproval evident. Having witnessed the incident themselves, they couldn’t help but admonish the maidservant.
These two women were mothers, unfamiliar with Qiao Xuan but nevertheless disgusted by the maid’s behavior.
Lu Ying, the maidservant, seethed with resentment, her tears flowing even more profusely. “You Anze Prefecture City people are bullies! Absolute bullies! You twist the truth to suit your own ends! I didn’t do it, I swear!”
Tang Fanghua, one of the young ladies, bristled with anger. “Is there no rule of law for nobility? How can you act so unreasonably! A gentleman resolves disputes with words, not violence. Your behavior is utterly reprehensible!”
