Chapter 2065: Dealing with Ms. Qin

While she had attended to everyone else, loyal Auntie Ling remained under her care.

The thought of Zhao Shu involving the authorities filled her with dread, knowing that Auntie Ling would likely face interrogation. Ms. Qin couldn’t assure herself that Auntie Ling would endure such scrutiny unscathed. Even she doubted her own resilience under such circumstances.

Should Zhao Shu proceed with his plans, he would undoubtedly spare no effort in retribution.

Ms. Qin felt defenseless against Zhao Shu’s onslaught. Financially, Zhao Shu could easily overpower her, and even Zhao Mu would be at his mercy. With Zhao Shu’s demise, any familial ties ceased to hold sway over Zhao Mu.

Though he might show leniency towards Zhao Mu due to their blood relation, Ms. Qin realized she had no such reprieve awaiting her.

Filled with remorse, Ms. Qin lamented her previous leniency. If she had foreseen this predicament, she would have eliminated the coachman without hesitation, sparing herself this ordeal.

In truth, Ms. Qin had entertained thoughts of eliminating the coachman. However, he proved elusive, vanishing without a trace immediately after accepting her bribe. By the time Ms. Qin resolved to act, he had vanished beyond her reach.

At the time, Ms. Qin underestimated Zhao Shu’s resilience, presuming that even if she couldn’t locate the coachman, Zhao Shu would likely face similar difficulties. Additionally, considering Zhao Shu’s youth back then, she doubted his ability to challenge her authority in the future. With Zhao Mu’s influence suppressing him, her own biological sons seemed poised to keep Zhao Shu in check.

In Ms. Qin’s eyes, without the support of Ms. Zheng, Zhao Shu appeared vulnerable, akin to a lamb awaiting slaughter. She failed to take him seriously, even contemplating ways to degrade and belittle him. Ideas of subjecting him to an unbearable marriage or dragging him through the mud crossed her mind, envisioning a future where he could never recover.

However, Ms. Qin’s plans went awry after Zhao Shu’s unexpected display of filial devotion, derailing her schemes and spiraling events beyond her control. Eventually, even Zhao Mu found himself unable to rein him in, leading to Zhao Shu wresting control of almost all of the Zhao Family’s assets.

In the ensuing years, Zhao Shu retreated to a modest existence as a rural landlord alongside

Zhao Mu in a small town. The opulence and extravagance of their former lifestyle became a distant memory.

Gone were the days of luxuriant brocades and gleaming jewelry—Ms. Qin now found herself constrained by financial limitations. Moreover, she endured Zhao Mu’s incessant complaints and occasional outbursts, bearing the brunt of his frustrations.

Blame for their diminished circumstances fell squarely on Ms. Qin’s shoulders, prompting Zhao Mu’s occasional physical aggression during fits of rage.

Initially, Ms. Qin believed her situation couldn’t get any worse, but now she found herself consumed by genuine panic and despair.

Before she could formulate a plan, Zhao Mu callously shifted all blame onto her, siding with the coachman’s accusations. He condemned Ms. Qin as morally corrupt and announced his intention to leave her fate in Zhao Shu’s hands.

Despite Zhao Di and Zhao Ye’s feeble attempts to shield her, their efforts proved futile against Zhao Shu’s authority. Even Zhao Mu, their own father, stood powerless against Zhao Shu’s resolve.

Furthermore, Zhao Di vividly recalled the humiliation he suffered at Zhao Shu’s hands during Yuzhang and Zhao Shu’s marriage, intensifying his fear of Zhao Shu’s retribution.

With no means of escape, Ms. Qin unleashed a torrent of curses directed at Zhao Shu, Ms. Zheng, and even Taotao, Shao Yunduan, and Qiao Xuan.

In a fit of rage, Zhao Shu lashed out, striking her with a blow that nearly split her lip.

Determined to ensure she faced consequences for her actions, Zhao Shu orchestrated her sale to himself, bringing her to the Zhao clan compound. There, he confined her within the clan’s temple, where she was compelled to repent before the Buddha each day.
