Stop Hypnotizing Me, Villainous Princess!
Chapter 57: Weakening the Faith of the Divine Order ChurchChapter 57: Weakening the Faith of the Divine Order Church
When the Witch of the End listed the first few titles, Lynn hadn’t quite grasped the situation, though he felt something was off.
But when she uttered the final title, the nature of the matter changed completely.
What?!
She wants me to kill the Master of a Billion Stars?!
Lynn’s mind went blank.
It was like learning track and field on your first day, only to be thrust into a championship race. Then, as you stood there bewildered, Usain Bolt walked in, smiled, and told you he was just the starter. Your real opponent was Barry Allen from Central City.
He wanted to slap himself.
Seriously?!
The Witch never said anything about giving me a trial for ascension—I just had to go and ask!Lynn’s expression turned stiff as the thought crossed his mind.
Even if he set aside the sheer absurdity of the task for a moment...
Let’s assume he miraculously gained some cheat-level power that allowed him to slay gods effortlessly.
The problem remained: a god and a mortal were in entirely different dimensions. Even if he scoured the entire continent, he might not even catch a glimpse of the Master of a Billion Stars, let alone find a way to kill him.
It was utterly impossible.
Watching the sweat bead on Lynn’s forehead, the previously composed Witch of the End let her lips curl into a faint, mischievous smile.
“I thought you were just an ignorant mortal who didn’t know their limits,” she said, her crimson lips parting slightly. “Now I see, you’re not entirely fearless after all.”
Sensing her amusement, Lynn took a deep breath.
He decided to revise his first impression of the Witch of the End.
Clearly, even after one hundred thousand years, with all her vast life experience, she hadn’t rid herself of some rather nasty personality traits.
Still, why did it have to be the Master of a Billion Stars again?
He couldn’t help but internally lament his plight.
It seemed this god and Lynn were oddly fated to cross paths.
After all, his previous self had been a devoted follower of the Master of a Billion Stars and a member of the Divine Order Church.
But then came the infamous event known as the "Noble's Disgrace," which led to the downfall of his family, leaving him branded as a Forsaken One.
Looking back now, it was clear this was the result of a carefully orchestrated plot by the Mosgra family and the aristocrats aligned with the Divine Order Church.
That lofty god likely had no idea about such trivialities.
Lynn didn’t know much about the intricacies of his family’s downfall.
But piecing things together with the original story’s hints, it seemed the church’s archbishop had been a staunch supporter of the Second Prince, while his father, a loyalist to the royal faction, had refused to interfere in the Succession Ceremony.
Perhaps the conflict had started there.
Lynn’s thoughts swirled with speculation.
Noticing his shifting expressions, the Witch of the End frowned slightly. For a moment, she wondered if he was genuinely considering the possibility of deicide.
After all, she didn’t see Lynn as a normal person.
What kind of "normal" person prays to her stockings and vows undying loyalty to her?
“Forget what I said earlier,” the Witch said coolly. “Now, here is the real trial I need you to complete.”
“Do you know where a god’s power truly comes from?”
Her voice was clear and melodious.
Apparently finding her position uncomfortable, the Witch casually waved her hand.
In an instant, a familiar velvet chair materialized beside her, and she sat down with her legs elegantly crossed, her pale, delicate toes resting lightly on the floor.
Lynn snapped out of his thoughts and replied, “Faith.”
The Witch nodded slightly. “Exactly."
“The so-called power of faith is a convergence of the spiritual will of countless devout followers. It serves both as a tether and as the source of divine energy, which is why gods appoint agents, establish churches, spread their gospel, and inspire belief among mortals.”
“However, this power doesn’t originate from the gods themselves.
“Though incredibly potent, it is not without its flaws.”
Hearing this, Lynn’s eyes darted with understanding as an idea struck him. “So... what you’re saying is, if I just get rid of all the Divine Order Church’s followers, that god would lose their power source and fall from the divine throne?”
“...”
The Witch of the End seemed utterly speechless, her expression frozen as if caught off guard by the sheer audacity of his “brilliant” suggestion.
She stayed silent for a long moment, likely too dumbfounded to respond.
After a moment, the Witch of the End closed her eyes and said, “In a sense, yes.”
She continued, “For instance, during times of war, when weaker nations were invaded and subjected to tyranny, the invaders often resorted to massacring entire cities. This wasn’t always because they were cruel but often part of conflicts between gods.
“When a large number of a god’s followers die in a short span, their strength diminishes significantly, leaving them vulnerable to rival deities.
“However, the Divine Order Church is a different story.
“Beyond the Saint Roland Empire, the church has millions of followers in other nations. It’s not feasible to kill them all.”
Lynn noticed her brief silence and gave an awkward smile. “My bad, please go on.”
The cold, white-haired woman glanced at him before continuing slowly.
“There are two tasks I need you to accomplish.”
“First, I require you to hunt down at least one hundred Extraordinary members of the Divine Order Church, with a minimum rank of Second-Order.”
Lynn’s face darkened.
Just the first task alone was a nightmare.
Currently, he was only a First-Order Extraordinary. Even with the Divine Factor of “The End” and the system’s help, he could barely manage a fight against someone one rank above him.
But one hundred Second-Order enemies? Even if they attacked him one at a time, their sheer numbers could drown him.
And taking them out one by one would drag on indefinitely.
What’s worse, there was no way Yveste would allow him to carry out such an operation openly.
Which meant he’d have to do it secretly, slowing his progress even further.
Seeing Lynn’s silence, the Witch of the End ignored his hesitation and continued, “Second, I need you to weaken the public’s faith in the Master of a Billion Stars to a certain extent.”
“Weaken… their faith?” Lynn repeated, puzzled.
The Witch of the End gave a slight nod. “To weaken faith is to weaken the source of His power.”
“But faith is intangible,” Lynn said, confused. “How am I supposed to weaken it?”
“That’s for you to figure out,” she replied, her tone turning a shade colder.
Lynn sighed. “Can you at least tell me why I need to do these two things?”
“It’s an experiment.”
“An experiment?”
“Borrowing your own words,” the Witch said as she lifted her slender arm, the frilled cuff of her sleeve falling back to reveal snow-white skin. She examined her delicate fingers thoughtfully. “If the momentum from the past is strong enough, then fate is not immutable.”
“I want you to see if weakening His source power ten thousand years ago will have any impact on His future self.
“It doesn’t need to be much—just a trace is enough.”
Noticing her expression, Lynn asked, “Why?”
She didn’t answer.
Instead, under his stunned gaze, she gently rolled up her sleeve, revealing a section of her forearm.
Lynn’s gaze fell on it, and he noticed a scar.
A scar… with a distinctly unusual appearance.
