Chapter 1739: Chapter 1596: The First Creature Born in the World
After entering the Evil Temple, the demonic flames surrounding Chu Mu flared uncontrollably.
These flames seemed to be drawn and summoned by some unknown power, leaning towards a single direction. Chu Mu himself had no idea how to navigate this sinister temple, so he simply allowed his seemingly sentient flames to guide him deeper into this mysterious world within the temple.
“My senses are being restricted,” Princess Jinrou murmured softly to Chu Mu as she followed closely beside him.
Princess Jinrou’s perception abilities far surpassed Chu Mu’s. If her senses were unable to extend outward, it meant there were strong prohibitions present within the temple.
Chu Mu’s perception wasn’t as heavily affected. Perhaps, as Bai Jinrou had suggested, this temple was particularly welcoming to wicked beings like Chu Mu, who epitomized the path of dark magic.
Bai Yu had visited the Evil Temple several times before, but his level of strength at the time had only allowed him to linger on its outer periphery.
Chu Mu and Princess Jinrou, however, bypassed the bizarre labyrinth of stone palaces on the outskirts and ventured directly into the temple’s deeper depths.
No living creatures could be seen within the temple, nor could Chu Mu detect even a trace of life energy. However, decayed corpses were frequently found in the dark corners formed at the bases of the towering black walls.
Chu Mu couldn’t discern the origin of these remains, which was proof that, despite the absence of living beings, this temple was undoubtedly filled with danger.
As they walked further forward, black demonic flames began to appear within the labyrinth passages.
The flames filled nearly the entire corridor, burning ominously with an eerie intensity. The instant they turned a corner and were greeted by the unnerving sight of these black infernos, the unprepared Bai Jinrou jumped in fright.
“It seems this path has been sealed off by the flames,” Princess Jinrou said.
The Evil Temple was a massive labyrinth, with its walls and stone structures towering over them, dwarfing their height and making them feel insignificantly small.
Each wall was reinforced with some form of prohibition. While forcibly destroying them wasn’t impossible, it would drain a significant amount of physical energy.
More critically, the repercussions of attacking these prohibitions were unpredictable.
In this vast labyrinth of the Evil Temple, numerous corridors were filled with different colored demonic flames.
Green, blue, white, and silver—these colors were representations of the ranks within the Nightmare Demon hierarchy.
In certain areas, Chu Mu’s current level allowed him to pass through flame-filled pathways unhindered. These various flames sealing off routes essentially acted as level-based barriers, blocking weaker beings from advancing.
Previously, Chu Mu and Bai Jinrou had mainly encountered white and silver flames, but the barrier now before them was dozens of times fiercer—black demonic flames.
The black flames surged like a swarm of chained devils, baring their teeth and claws, ready to pounce. Their overwhelming malevolence left Princess Jinrou feeling deeply uncomfortable.
Chu Mu stood still, staring directly at the black flames ahead. The black flames enveloping his body began to emerge and flow outward, almost as if they were drawn to merge with the violent black inferno before them.
Pulling Princess Jinrou into his embrace, Chu Mu said, “I’ll bring you through, but you’d better maintain your spiritual protection.”
This level of black flames was something Chu Mu could still endure.
Princess Jinrou nodded and, with a playful smile, said, “Are you leading me into a sea of fire?”
“Be serious. It might be dangerous,” Chu Mu replied solemnly.
Princess Jinrou rolled her eyes at him—this man lacked any sense of romance!
Chu Mu formed a spatial shield around himself and Princess Jinrou for protection.
While Chu Mu had some resistance to the black flames’ aggressiveness, that didn’t mean these wild flames couldn’t harm him directly. If the pathway contained even more aggressive elements, Chu Mu couldn’t guarantee his safety.
Diving into the black flames, a scorching aura washed over him. However, the demonic flames surrounding his body felt as though they were returning to their homeland, spreading their arms to embrace the fire.
Chu Mu flew quickly, speeding through the fiery barrier straight ahead. He had a sense that he had now reached the deeper recesses of the Evil Temple.
The temple here was starkly different from its outskirts. While the outer areas of the temple consisted mostly of cold black walls, the ceiling here was ablaze with burning black flames.
Beneath his feet was an icy stone floor, while above him hung a vast ocean of black flames, with massive chunks of the raging fire occasionally falling. Chu Mu had to stay alert to dodge them.
“It feels like being in a starry sky with meteors crashing down everywhere,” Princess Jinrou remarked, clutching tightly onto Chu Mu’s neck, her imagination vivid.
Chu Mu, on the other hand, lacked such romantic notions. The power of the falling flames was formidable, and if the path ahead continued to be filled with such fiery debris, he couldn’t guarantee a safe exit.
So, unlike Princess Jinrou, who was swinging her bare legs with excitement while admiring the falling flames from the temple’s ceiling, Chu Mu had to maintain his focus to dodge each one.
The pathway ahead remained covered by a fiery sky, the falling flames growing denser. The stone floor beneath them began to churn with black demonic flames.
Unwittingly, the space above and below became engulfed in a dense ocean of black flames, with a constant cascade of fiery meteorites streaming through the layers.
“Should I help block some of these meteor fires for you?” Princess Jinrou offered softly when she saw Chu Mu struggling.
“No need. These flames directly harm the soul. If you use a spiritual barrier, it might burn your soul,” Chu Mu replied.
As a high-grade immortal dual evil demon, traversing flames born of his own fiery attribute should be within Chu Mu’s tolerance.
Yet, he couldn’t help but wonder—these black flames in the temple were so overwhelmingly intense. Aside from beings of his level, was there anything else capable of entering this realm?
“Whhhhhhhhhhhhooooshhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Suddenly, a violent and dreadful wind swept through, and Chu Mu realized with shock that all the flames had tilted sharply!
Releasing his Soul Sense, Chu Mu instantly detected an immense energy ahead—a mixture of darkness and fire!
Chu Mu continued flying forward, rounding a corner in the labyrinth, to find himself in an expansive stretch of darkness.
It seemed to be the temple’s final destination—or perhaps its very center—a vast abyss that was perfectly circular. Above roared raging flames, while below lay an unfathomable depth shrouded in shadows!
Suspended between the darkness and fire was a startlingly massive energy mass, a coexistence of flames and shadows!
Fire tongues churned, howling flames surged violently.
It felt as though Chu Mu was staring directly into the face of a black sun, standing beneath the oppressive atmosphere of this fiery darkness.
The scorching aura blasted against him, the temperature far exceeding the flame-filled corridors they had just passed. Any creature below the high-immortality level that stepped foot here would be incinerated instantly.
Princess Jinrou had activated her spiritual protection, yet the oppressive heat made her deeply uncomfortable.
“What… what is this exactly?” Princess Jinrou asked, craning her neck to gaze at the top of this towering black infernal core.
The massive energy body was like a burning celestial star, its surface leaking destructive power. While Chu Mu’s own fire-based skills were incredibly potent, they could only compare to one of the fiery tendrils emitted by this colossal entity.
Though the structure seemed close, Princess Jinrou knew it was actually incredibly far away. Its sheer size made it appear deceptively near. If its flames were red instead of black, one might even mistake it for the sun hanging in the sky.
“A black sun?” The voice of Fox Elder drifted out.
Since Fox Elder had recognized and named the entity, he undoubtedly knew something about it. Chu Mu immediately bombarded him with questions.
The black sun’s terrifying presence left Chu Mu wondering if his body could endure its oppressive heat should he attempt to fly closer to its surface. Even someone like him, this dark and twisted practitioner of wicked arts, would likely be reduced to ashes.
“The Three Upper Heavens are governed by the Red Sun. This so-called Red Sun is the sun you see in the sky, the source of life energy for all beings. Meanwhile, the Three Lower Realms are ruled by the Black Sun, the source of life energy for all entities living below,” Fox Elder explained seriously.
“Mr. Li, so these represent Heaven and Earth’s dual forces?” Bai Jinrou asked.
“Exactly—one is the heart of the heavens, the other the heart of the earth. Their energies are absorbed by vegetation, and from that, the cycle of life forms. They are the origin points of two realms, the essence of all life,” Fox Elder explained.
“Does that mean the Nightmare Demon Clan originated from the Black Sun’s energies?” Chu Mu asked.
“Could the Nightmare Demon Clan be the first-ever life form of this world?”
Fox Elder pondered briefly and acknowledged that such a hypothesis seemed plausible.
Life relies on the energies of the Black and Red Suns. With these energies, living beings came into existence. The Nightmare Demon Clan’s supreme bloodline, the Black Nightmare Demon, could very well have been born from the elements present within the Black Sun—a coexistence of fire, shadow, and space—later evolving into sub-clans of Nightmare Demons.
“Chu Mu, you’re about to become the Ancestor of the World,” Princess Jinrou teased, her gaze fixed on the black flames emanating from Chu Mu’s body.
Chu Mu had truly never considered that the Nightmare Demon Clan might be the first life form to appear on this world. Such a revelation would undoubtedly spark a storm of controversy among human scholars researching Soul Pets! (To be continued.
