Chapter 1744: Chapter 1601: Day and Night Roulette (Part 1)

Chu Mu remembered that Little Mo Xie was brought out by the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon from the Soul Alliance Master Ling Chan.

A character like Ling Chan likely could only flaunt his power before the discovery of New Moon Land. In a place like the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss, he probably didn’t even qualify to set foot there.

This also proved that Little Mo Xie was likely a chance encounter by the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon, who then brought it from the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss to New Moon Land.

Unfortunately, the Azure Sky Hidden Dragon’s memory was fragmented. It’s estimated that even it couldn’t recall Little Mo Xie’s origins.

“Mo Xie, come here.” Chu Mu called to Mo Xie, who was standing on Little Thunder Dragon’s head enjoying the breeze.

Mo Xie turned its head, letting out a soft whimper before lightly stepping on Little Thunder Dragon’s back and leaping into Chu Mu’s arms.

Chu Mu used both hands to hold the fluffy Little Mo Xie, looking closely into its eyes.

“Whimper… whimper…” Mo Xie looked back at Chu Mu with puzzlement, letting out coquettish sounds reminiscent of a little girl acting spoiled.

Seeing its adorable demeanor, Chu Mu couldn’t help but laugh and teased, “What on earth is your origin?”

Mo Xie stared blankly at Chu Mu, wearing an “I don’t know either” expression.

Mo Xie had encountered Chu Mu at its first rank and first stage. Back then, it was like an infant, and its memories only began when it formed the soul contract with Chu Mu. As for what happened before its hatching, it had absolutely no idea.

“Could Mo Xie have something to do with the Seven Sins Fox?” Princess Jinrou walked over, gently stroking Mo Xie’s fur.

When the Good and Evil Queen touched Mo Xie, it simply treated her like air. But if Princess Jinrou extended her hand, Mo Xie would half-close its eyes, thoroughly enjoying the feeling of someone grooming its fur. This demonstrated that Mo Xie’s emotions were very similar to Chu Mu’s—whoever Chu Mu liked, it liked; whoever Chu Mu ignored, it treated as nonexistent.

“If its mutation had ended with the Seven Sins Fox, I’d also think Mo Xie might indeed be connected to the Seven Sins Fox’s story or perhaps even to the fate shackles it bore. But Mo Xie has already transcended the realm of the Seven Sins Fox and transformed into Netherworld Fox Sovereign Zi Di. There should be an essential difference between the Netherworld Fox Sovereign and the Seven Sins Fox,” Chu Mu said.

“In ten thousand years, the world cycle repeats. Within this time span, it’s not uncommon for some illogical creatures to appear. That said, when do you think it will undergo its next mutation? Its next mutation should be crucial; it might reveal its origin,” Yu Suo said while gazing at Mo Xie.

At this moment, Master Fox Elder also jumped out, stroking his beard. “Judging by the pattern of its mutations, the next one will likely be at the Undying level. As far as I know, there are no creatures in this world that have crossed into the Undying level purely due to racial mutation. And more importantly, I doubt there are any creatures in this world with a species ranking at the Undying level, right?”

Hearing this, Chu Mu, Bai Jinrou, and Yu Suo all fell into contemplative silence.

Species ranking at the Undying level…

Even ancient entities like the World Monarch Tree, hailed as the Divine Tree, with its tenth-rank strength, absolutely couldn’t directly reach the Undying level.

Similarly, the Ancestor of Good and Evil’s tenth-rank domain hadn’t entered that divine realm; it would still require further cultivation and rare opportunities to truly ascend to the Undying level.

Among the five great Undying legends, the highest-ranked species is the Naihe Flower, whose tenth-rank strength would be at the Peak Immortal level.

The former Light King and Dark King, after their absolution, achieved ranks similarly hovering around Peak Immortal.

Counting them one by one, Chu Mu was shocked to discover that no species ranking at the Undying level actually existed in this world!

Mo Xie’s racial mutation followed a clear pattern: with each mutation, it directly leaped an entire major tier. At present, its species ranking was around the Low-grade Immortal level, as the Netherworld Fox Sovereign Zi Di. Therefore, its next racial mutation would undoubtedly propel it directly into the Undying level…

But what could Mo Xie possibly evolve into next??

The highest-ranked races in the Soul Pet Field only reached Peak Immortal. In this world, there simply didn’t exist species at the Undying level. How could Mo Xie continue its racial evolution?

“It seems that the Netherworld Fox Sovereign is likely its final racial mutation. Think about it—if it could still evolve, it’s been so many years since its last mutation, yet there’s been no sign of fluctuation in its mutation lineage,” Yu Suo said with a faint smile.

So, was Netherworld Mo Xie’s final mutation?

Chu Mu held the fluffy Mo Xie, gazing into its silvery eyes…

Those eyes were pure yet familiar. Looking into them, Chu Mu felt as though he were looking into his own eyes, capable of understanding every emotion and every thought.

Sometimes, Chu Mu even felt that this bond between himself and Mo Xie, this soul-level harmony, transcended the temporal bounds of their time together. He couldn’t sense such a connection with any other Soul Pet, even if decades were spent building rapport.

“Whimper… whimper…”

As everyone else seriously contemplated Mo Xie’s origins and its next mutation, Mo Xie flicked a small tail into Chu Mu’s Soul Pet Space, casually grabbed some snacks Ye Qingzi had prepared for it, and began chewing contentedly.

Such complex problems certainly wouldn’t bother Mo Xie. The most serious decision in its mind was whether to share the fruit it was snacking on with Little Thunder Dragon, because the taste was quite good.

Little Thunder Dragon was Mo Xie’s greatest rival—not due to its current strength, but because among all of Chu Mu’s Soul Pets, only Little Thunder Dragon had the freedom to travel anywhere at will, often stealing Mo Xie’s treasured snacks. And even when its snacks were stolen, Mo Xie couldn’t do much about it, always yielding the upper hand.

“Stop being so focused on eating and look at that belly fat of yours,” Chu Mu pinched Mo Xie’s belly.

Having spent some time away from battles, Mo Xie indeed seemed to have gotten a bit plumper, spending its days sleeping and munching on snacks.

“Whimper…” Reluctantly, Mo Xie placed the remaining food back into Chu Mu’s Space Ring, shaking its nine small tails as it did so.

Suddenly, Mo Xie’s ears perked up, as if detecting something. It turned its head, its gaze fixated on the highest peak of the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss.

“This is the Highest Longyuan Mountain,” Yu Suo pointed to the summit’s highest point.

The mountain stood majestically, solitary and somber.

Fierce winds swept across the summit, dislodging some wind-eroded gravel, which swirled under the blazing sun, forming a distinct arc of sand hovering around the peak.

The summit’s area was vast. From a distance, it appeared like the spires of a castle, yet upon closer approach, it resembled an uneven, expansive highland terrain.

Little Thunder Dragon carried the group of three and Fox Elder to the highest point of the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss. As far as the eye could see, only desolate rock formations filled the landscape.

In such high altitude, the wind served as an artistic sculptor, carving the entire summit into stonework masterpieces over hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of years. The summit displayed countless aged, weathered, irregularly stacked stone remnants.

“This summit is flat—why are there so many Age Stones scattered here?”

Age Stones, among the most durable materials in this world, were said not to form naturally but to originate from the remains and bones of certain creatures. They could exist for an exceptionally long time in the world.

The summit’s abundance of Age Stones carried a profound sense of time’s passage.

Once they had flown to the summit, Mo Xie seemed to sense something and started darting around between the Age Stones.

But after a while, it returned to Chu Mu’s shoulder, its expression one of disappointment.

“Found something?” Chu Mu asked.

Mo Xie shook its head, as if unsure what it was looking for.

“Above us is the Heavenly Palace,” Yu Suo said, pointing upward.

Princess Jinrou raised her head, using her soul sense to probe the sky above. Yet all she could see was a sky full of stars—no sign of the Heavenly Palace.

Chu Mu also raised his head to look but found no trace of the enigmatic Heavenly Palace.

Then, even Fox Elder tilted his head upward, murmuring to himself, “Many strong beings from the Human Clan and other great races have climbed here before. These individuals, informed by ancient texts, believed the Heavenly Palace truly existed. But when they reached this peak of the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss and gazed upward, they saw nothing. Beyond here lies the Void Sky Realm, a domain where no living beings except powerful Abnormal Species can survive. Seeing is believing, and that’s why so many still think the Heavenly Palace is nothing more than a fabricated legend…”

“Chu Mu, did you see anything?” Princess Jinrou asked.

“No,” Chu Mu replied, shaking his head.

Flying further upward would be meaningless because the summit of the Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss already symbolized the highest point in the world. Going any higher would reach the cosmos, where one could almost pluck stars.

In this starlit expanse, there was no air, only boundless darkness and chaotic spatial storms, similar to an alternate dimension. The Heavenly Palace could not exist in such a turbulent region. Even if it could hang like a celestial star, life could not persist there.

“There’s a barrier,” Yu Suo said calmly, lifting her gaze. “This barrier renders it invisible to the mortal eye yet allows it to look down upon the living world, much like the sun and moon. It’s like a time dial, suspended along the axis between the Black Fire Day and Red Fire Day worlds. Stand here and look up carefully—you’ll soon see its existence.”

Yu Suo lifted her face, falling silent as she fixated on the blazing sun above.

The sunlight illuminated the three figures’ faces. This realm, already within the Starry Sky Domain, lacked the concepts of daytime and nighttime. What lay above them was a brilliant star river and a massive, blazing sun exuding fiery red flames. (To be continued.
