Chapter 1748: Chapter 1605: The Frightful Heavenly Palace

As he approached the Totem Temple, Chu Mu noticed that the celestial palace had a predominantly female membership.

On the grand, white palace, there was always a group of women with elegant and synchronized steps, dressed in sophisticated yet subtly seductive blue gowns with cinched waists. Their graceful figures and stunning appearances added a touch of memorable allure to the otherwise cold, white palace.

“What’s so fascinating about these women?” Yu Suo said indifferently, “Some of these Totem Believer Women look pure and noble on the surface, but their hearts are more ruthless than devils. In their eyes, human lives are even cheaper than livestock!”

“You’re a Totem Believer Woman yourself. Why tarnish yourself alongside them?” Chu Mu replied.

“I’ve never separated myself from them. For some reason, many men, even knowing these women are devouring devils who don’t spit out bones, still go to great lengths to approach them. They fantasize about being the one who can pick the poisonous flower and savor it slowly… Ha! These women have seen plenty of such men. With just a glance or a turn, those men will voluntarily offer up everything they have.” Yu Suo said.

“You seem to understand this quite thoroughly, using this point effectively to sow deceit and win favor among people in the mortal realm?” Chu Mu said.

Yu Suo’s face stiffened, annoyed that every time she said something, Chu Mu seemed to mock her in return.

“Yes, you were my first conquest, a foolish man captivated enough to offer up two soul contracts, utterly deluded.” Yu Suo scoffed in retaliation.

Chu Mu was long past obsessing over those old matters. He said calmly, “Don’t assume everyone’s motives are always selfish. Maybe some of those pursuers honestly just admired them, knowing the chances were slim but still hoping to have a chance and striving for it.”

Yu Suo looked at Chu Mu with a peculiar expression. Ordinarily, when it came to this topic, Chu Mu would shout at her and send her to his Soul Pet Space to meditate. Today, though, he had calmly tried to correct her narrow mindset. It made Yu Suo wonder if this man was truly Chu Mu.

“So what you’re saying is that when you offered up your two soul contracts back then…” Yu Suo turned away coldly, her voice icy.

Her words made Chu Mu reflect on the matter himself.

Why had he handed over his two soul contracts and signed a pact with her back then? Was it because her unparalleled beauty had completely captivated him, or simply because her pitiful pleads had stirred compassion in his heart?

He couldn’t remember the details of something that happened so long ago. Vaguely, he answered, “At that age, seeing someone ask for help, wouldn’t most have lent a hand?”

Looking back at past events, Chu Mu, having gone through so much by now, felt far less attached to those moments.

Before signing the pact with Yu Suo, he had been a simple-minded teenager with a passion for the Soul Pet Path. If he hadn’t met her, he might have walked the same Soul Pet Path as everyone else.

Because of her, his intrinsic views shifted; goodness faded, replaced by growing darkness.

Resentful of society, numb and rebellious, he had adopted a selfish mindset that disregarded others’ lives. But after undergoing the cleansing of the Monument Tears, the trials of war, and other deeply impactful experiences, his mindset gradually transformed.

To act with goodness now came from a deep sense of duty to protect the New Moon Land he considered his responsibility. Yet facing the Alliance Expeditionary Force, his actions were cruel and malevolent to the extreme.

“Pure goodness will one day be tainted by external forces. Pure evil will eventually yield to numbness and confusion.” Chu Mu remarked philosophically.

Everyone oscillates between these two extremes to varying degrees; some with larger swings, others with smaller ripples, but ultimately settling at a single unmoving point.

Chu Mu wasn’t sure whether his balance of good and evil had truly stabilized.

Yu Suo stopped walking, standing in the center of the jade-smooth Great Hall, her violet eyes calmly gazing at Chu Mu.

“Are you trying to say my perspective on things is still too narrow-minded and immature?” Yu Suo asked.

To Yu Suo, Chu Mu had always been an obsessive madman, utterly irrational, idealistic in his every action. If not for his luck in possessing many powerful Soul Pets, he’d have died countless times already.

But now Yu Suo noticed that Chu Mu’s mindset truly seemed to have changed, perhaps because he wasn’t so young anymore.

“Something like that.” Chu Mu said.

On second thought, Chu Mu wondered if discussing philosophical values with someone like Yu Suo was ultimately meaningless. This woman was borderline genius, her views deeply entrenched—notably her hatred…

Yu Suo fell silent for a moment, then spoke in a low voice, “The day you met me was the tenth day after I jumped off the cliff and transformed into a monster. What you call the transition from good to evil…”

“Hmm. Explain it to me, then.” Chu Mu nodded.

Yu Suo hesitated for a while, looking at Chu Mu…

In the end, she didn’t say anything. Instead, she merely led Chu Mu deeper into the Totem Temple.

With both falling silent, the vast, magnificent hall could only hear the elegant rhythm of Yu Suo’s heels hitting the ground, the cadence slightly disturbed compared to earlier.

As they stepped into the Totem Temple, perhaps due to the predominantly female environment, it felt more vibrant than the other parts of the celestial palace.

Suddenly, a deep-yellow Little Immortal Rabbit bounded past Chu Mu.

The Little Immortal Rabbit was utterly adorable—plump and fluffy, inciting a strong urge to pick it up and hug it.

Its pure eyes turned towards Chu Mu and Yu Suo. At that moment, a little girl wearing a long dress appeared from a winding corridor nearby, smiling brightly as she chased after it.

“Stop running all over the place!” The little girl grabbed the Little Immortal Rabbit and held it tight, then turned her gaze to the unfamiliar Chu Mu and Yu Suo.

“Sister, why are you wearing a veil? Is it because you don’t want people to recognize you?” the little girl asked.

Yu Suo stood there, staring at the little girl, lost in thought.

The girl seemed about eleven or twelve years old, quiet and adorable like a Little Princess.

“Yes, there are many dangerous people here.” Yu Suo smiled and gently touched the little girl’s violet hair.

“No, everyone here is nice. If there are dangerous people, it must be this brother, right? His aura feels strange, like those old monsters that devour humans.” The little girl pointed at Chu Mu.

“…” Chu Mu was speechless.

What kind of world was this, where a celestial palace child could easily see through a person so clearly?

Ironically, he had just been pondering deeply about good and evil, wondering whether he was more righteous or wicked…

Seeing the little girl’s accusation, Yu Suo smiled.

“Sister, you have such a lovely smile. If you didn’t wear the veil, could I see your face?” the little girl asked sweetly.

“You’ll be beautiful when you grow up.” Yu Suo responded.

“Really?”

“Yes,” Yu Suo maintained her smile. “That is… if you ever have the chance to grow up…”

As her words faded, Yu Suo’s palm conjured a Demonic Flower!

The flower sprouted a poisonous thorn, which gently parted the little girl’s violet hair and pierced her pale neck.

The girl’s smile froze. Before she could react, Yu Suo’s thorn drove deeper, injecting venom swiftly into her veins.

The girl’s long blue dress and skin rapidly turned gray, as if she were petrified.

Her body limply collapsed, her wide eyes frozen in innocent disbelief.

The deep-yellow Little Immortal Rabbit in her arms suddenly leapt up, lunging at Yu Suo’s face.

Yu Suo’s gaze sharpened, and the rabbit was instantly restrained mid-air. Its yellow coat also turned gray, lifeless.

Standing aside, Chu Mu furrowed his brows slightly, perplexed as he watched the lifeless little girl and rabbit.

“Tap-tap-tap~~~~~~~~~~~”

Footsteps echoed from nearby; clearly, someone was approaching.

Yu Suo raised her hand, scattering countless petals over the girl’s gray remains. Soon, she was dissolved into pollen, a fragrant essence dissipating through the somber palace.

“Tap-tap-tap-tap-tap~~~~~~~~~~~”

Elegant, sharp heels punctuated the steps of several Totem Believer Women, their tall, slender figures exuding nobility as they glanced briefly at Chu Mu and Yu Suo before continuing gracefully outward.

Once they left, Chu Mu looked at Yu Suo with a puzzled expression.

In mere moments, Yu Suo had claimed two lives—the pitiable little girl and the valuable Immortal Rabbit—without hesitation.

“She was a Heavenly Palace Patrol Officer. She might look like a little girl around eleven or twelve years old… Heh, her actual age could well be over a hundred.” Yu Suo explained calmly.

“Over a hundred??” Chu Mu exclaimed in surprise.

She clearly appeared no older than eleven or twelve. How could she be over a hundred?

“When I was three, she looked like this; when I was fifteen, she still looked like this. She probably recognized me just now but wasn’t entirely sure, since she saw me die with her own eyes.” Yu Suo said.

“So she approached you on purpose to test you?” Chu Mu asked.

“Yes.” Yu Suo nodded, without a shred of pity. “She takes girls of her apparent age, using their lives to maintain her youthful appearance and childlike body. I discovered this horrifying secret, but before I could execute her, I was replaced… Heh. She dared test me just now, thinking she might unmask me. Did she really believe I’d let her get away with it this time?”

“Your celestial palace is truly terrifying.” Chu Mu felt a wave of chills.

He hadn’t been particularly guarded around the girl earlier because her presence reminded him of his first encounter with Ning Man’er.

“The celestial palace has existed for an exceedingly long time, isolated from the outside world. The rot and corruption within it are beyond your imagination.” Yu Suo said with visible disdain.
