Chapter 1763: Chapter 1620: One Year of Snow
After safely leaving the Heavenly Palace, Chu Mu and Princess Jinrou returned to the mountain top of Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss.
At that moment, it happened to be nearing noon. Chu Mu raised his head but could no longer see the shadow of the Heavenly Palace.
It seemed that the Heavenly Palace could only be seen on that one particular day.
Leaving Ten Thousand Dragon Abyss, Chu Mu flew straight toward the direction of New Moon Land.
At Struggle Capital, after Yu Suo helped him refine away the evil aura, Chu Mu felt his strength grow once again.
And after the absurd events during this trip to the Heavenly Palace, Chu Mu once again sensed his power had increased further. Now, his strength should be somewhat close to that of the Ten Thousand Years Undying Dark Sorrow King.
But Chu Mu knew this level of strength was still far from sufficient.
The Ancient Jiao people had already been established as strong ones of the Fifth Era, and their strength was certainly of the Undying Level.
The solar eclipse was drawing nearer; Chu Mu had to come up with a way to deal with the Ancient Jiao people.
…
Back at New Moon Land, Chu Mu handed the Divine Dew to Xia Zhixian, asking her to arrange the Lifespan Extension Array for Bai Jinrou.
The recuperation process would be slow. Chu Mu left Bai Jinrou in his courtyard and focused solely on cultivation.
For reasons he could not explain, ever since returning from the Heavenly Palace, Chu Mu felt a lingering unease.
It seemed as if one day, the heavens would suddenly turn pitch black, and the massive body of a Flood Dragon would sweep across the dark sky, bringing catastrophic disaster upon New Moon Land. In such moments, he would only be able to stand far off, watching helplessly as terror unfolded before his eyes.
…
The atmosphere in the room would always shift whenever Chu Mu opened his eyes. Every time he awoke from cultivation, he cared less about what time it was and more about what season it had become.
At some point, snowflakes had already begun drifting outside the window. Each flake was pure white and holy, blanketing the small forest, pathways, and courtyard walls in white.
The laughter of girls echoed lightly from a distance. Chu Mu heard Ye Qingzi’s gentle scolding, Ning Man’er’s playful teasing, and others trying to soothe…
Chu Mu’s lips curled into a smile of contentment as he quietly sat there, listening.
The room was tranquil. Chu Mu glanced at the fluffy Little Mo Ye, who was in the midst of hibernation under the blanket.
Mo Ye seemed to sense Chu Mu’s awakening, rubbing its sleepy eyes with its tiny claws.
“Mrrrrrr~~~~~~~” Mo Ye wriggled its petite body closer into Chu Mu’s arms, yawning with an irresistibly sleepy demeanor.
“Why not go out to play?” Chu Mu asked, gently rubbing its pointed ears.
Mo Ye didn’t need to hibernate—but this little creature loved sleeping immensely. However long Chu Mu cultivated seemed to match how long Mo Ye slept. It was slightly puzzling.
“Mrrrr~~~~” Mo Ye half-closed its eyes, looking utterly drowsy. Its nine small tails swayed gently before slowing down; without saying much, it soon drifted off to sleep again.
Chu Mu stroked its fur while leaning against the window frame, the world around them quiet save for the familiar laughter of the girls and Mo Ye’s soft breathing.
“Why is it so quiet… quiet to the point it feels unnervingly empty…” Chu Mu murmured to himself.
The soul contract’s fracture and the resulting soul injury gradually healed, and Chu Mu’s First Spirit Soul had fully been released.
Except for Mo Ye, Chu Mu let the other four souls take turns being released, allowing them to cultivate independently.
Once Soul Pets reached higher levels, they could perform many tasks on their own. Giving them the freedom to train independently also proved beneficial to their development.
Mo Ye, however, remained by Chu Mu’s side at all times, refusing to return to the Soul Pet Space or behave like the other Soul Pets that ventured out for cultivation. It simply slept and barely even ate.
“Sleep, then.” Chu Mu felt a tinge of concern but had no answers for Mo Ye’s behavior. He only stroked it gently before closing his eyes to resume his cultivation.
…
This snowfall stretched on seemingly forever. When Chu Mu opened his eyes again, the white snow was still floating outside the window.
Chu Mu glanced around the room and noticed some minor changes, as though certain things had been added or others taken away.
In the courtyard, the girls’ charming laughter could no longer be heard. This time, the stillness was eerie, broken only by Mo Ye’s faint breathing.
It was still asleep. Was it truly hibernating?
Chu Mu got up and stretched his muscles.
This cultivation session had been long, but it had raised him up a level. It had been an age since he last saw the others, and Chu Mu realized it was time to stop. He should spend more time with them.
Opening the room’s door, he stepped into the falling snow. A slightly gaunt female attendant was sweeping snow, her broom in hand. Upon seeing Chu Mu emerge, her face filled with astonishment.
She frantically bowed to Chu Mu, who walked past her.
Not spotting Ye Qingzi or Ning Man’er in the courtyard, Chu Mu turned toward Liu Binglan’s Female Venerate Hall.
The hall, like everything else, had been covered in pristine white snowflakes, immaculate and serene.
Making his way toward the lakeside pavilion, Chu Mu crossed the wooden bridge spanning the lake, leaving behind tracks of footprints on the snow-covered planks.
Inside the pavilion, Liu Binglan sat alone, staring at the partially frozen lake water. Her jet-black hair fell freely down her back and across her chest, unbound as it usually was.
Chu Mu approached her, taking her cool hands into his own, trying to warm them.
Liu Binglan turned to glance at him, her snow-like face slowly blooming into a smile.
“Is something weighing on your mind?” Chu Mu asked.
“This snow… it’s lasted so long…” Liu Binglan replied.
“How long has it been?” Chu Mu had been immersed in cultivation and honestly had no idea how many days or months the snowfall had endured.
“One year, since last winter until now…” Liu Binglan answered.
“One year…” Chu Mu was momentarily stunned, his face reflecting a trace of helplessness.
The previous snowfall and the laughter he recalled were from a year ago. Time had flown by so quickly.
“So fast, as if in the blink of an eye…” Liu Binglan shared Chu Mu’s sentiment.
Liu Binglan loved snow. Elder Liu had once told her she had been born in the Snow Territory of the Di Sheng Domain.
She was like the ice and snow—quiet, beautiful, and cold.
“I went to the Heavenly Palace,” Chu Mu said.
“Mm.” Liu Binglan nodded, silently waiting for him to continue.
“In the Heavenly Palace, there’s a special group of women called Totem Believers. These women possess independent spaces—a kind of domain used for constructing array diagrams, separate from Soul Pet Space…” Chu Mu explained.
Liu Binglan’s expression shifted slightly, though she remained silent.
“Should I continue?” Chu Mu asked.
Liu Binglan shook her head. “No need.”
“Oh.”
It seemed she no longer sought to uncover her lineage—status high or low, New Moon Land was now her home.
“Mother, can I ask you something?” Chu Mu said.
“Mm.”
“Why do you dislike him?” Chu Mu asked.
“Dislike? Honestly, I’m not sure. Maybe it’s because he suddenly intruded into my world. My world is small, very small. If someone carefree and unruly enters, it might unsettle me.” Liu Binglan replied.
“How did you two meet?” Chu Mu pressed.
“At Snow City. We traveled together to Qiankun Ice Gate.” Liu Binglan said.
“Qiankun Ice Gate…” Chu Mu paused, surprised.
Wasn’t that the same place he and Mu Qingyi had visited?
Chu Mu could still recall the helplessness and despair wrought by the Ice Mirror World. Having someone nearby to rely on, especially someone of the opposite sex, seemed only natural…
“Back then, our strength was merely at Emperor Level. The time it took us to leave Qiankun Ice Gate was far longer than you and Mu Qingyi spent there.” Liu Binglan explained.
“At that point, you barely had a bond, didn’t you?” Chu Mu asked.
“Mm. Once we regained our senses, we both felt it was ridiculously absurd.” Liu Binglan smiled bitterly.
“Afterward? You ended up together, didn’t you?” Chu Mu pursued.
“As I mentioned earlier, my world is small, and it’s hard to accommodate someone like him—carefree and unruly. He didn’t like how I lived in my own little world, reserved and cold…” Liu Binglan said.
“He simply didn’t delve deep enough to truly understand you.” Chu Mu remarked.
Initially, Chu Mu had also thought Liu Binglan was like a block of ice, shielding herself completely from others. But over time, many realized she wasn’t nearly as cold as she appeared. She merely had her own ways of living and interacting.
“It’s fine. If he doesn’t understand me, then so be it. After all, I’ve never truly made the effort to understand him either.” Liu Binglan responded.
“He isn’t dead,” Chu Mu said.
Liu Binglan looked at him, confused. “Didn’t you say he had already been buried along with Yin Valley?”
“Yes, I saw it myself. But I feel he’s still alive.” Chu Mu said earnestly.
“I feel the same. But if he’s alive, why hasn’t he appeared? What could he be hesitating over?” Liu Binglan wondered aloud.
Chu Mu shook his head.
If Chu Tianmang were still alive, what was keeping him from showing himself? With his current power, there were few in the Human Domain who could pose a threat to him—so why would he stay away?
“Would you forgive him? If he is indeed alive and willing to try understanding you, would you accept him?” Chu Mu inquired.
Liu Binglan appeared slightly bewildered, unsure why Chu Mu was asking such questions today.
“I don’t know. There’s no romantic bond between us, like you and Ye Qingzi share, but you should understand—aside from you and him, no one else has truly entered my heart. I doubt I would ever allow someone new to step in…” Liu Binglan replied.
Hearing her response brought a bit of reassurance to Chu Mu.
It seemed their relationship hadn’t completely fractured; with effort, reconciliation remained a possibility, provided his father decided to approach her sincerely.
“What’s troubling you? Did you and Qingzi have a little conflict?” Liu Binglan asked.
Chu Mu shook his head. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please visit Qidian () to cast recommendation votes and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m. to read.)
