Chapter 1765 - 1622: Chu Mu’s Hunting Group

Chapter 1765: Chapter 1622: Chu Mu’s Hunting Group

A few days passed, and the four major forces indeed sent a group of people to the New Moon Land.

Coming from the Divine Sect were Xiao Xue’ang and Lin Mengling, both of whom were familiar faces.

The Monster Beast Palace sent a Chief Protector, said to be a formidable expert from the Nine Netherworlds.

The Mu Family Dynasty sent Tang Ang, a human leader who controlled a high-level immortal ghost-type creature.

The Elemental Sect sent its current Sect Master, someone who had been largely endorsed by Yu Suo and could be considered an ally.

Chu Mu was very familiar with Xiao Xue’ang and Lin Mengling, so there was no need to receive them too formally.

As Chu Mu observed the four human leader-level experts and the ten sect-leader-level experts who had traveled to the New Moon Land, a sense of doubt arose in his heart.

"The solar eclipse is drawing very, very near," Xiao Xue’ang said.

"This snowstorm is likely the work of the Sky-covering Snow Demon, one of the trusted subordinates of the ancient Jiao person. Our purpose here is to locate and eliminate it. While the ancient Jiao person is still in slumber, we must deal with as many of its subordinates as possible," said Sect Master Jiang Gu of the Elemental Sect.

"As far as I know, the problem is not limited to the Sky-covering Snow Demon. The Wind Disaster Demoness, one of the oldest wind creatures, has also awakened. Its winds have inflicted massive damage upon the western territories of this land," Tang Ang added.

"These people should have migrated long ago. I don’t understand what courage keeps them here in the doomed West. Do they honestly believe that the New Moon Land’s safety guarantees their own? The ancient Jiao person is the most unrestrained being, doing whatever it pleases. Once it wakes, not only will the New Moon Land be obliterated, but the entire western region of the Struggle Land will be swallowed by its ocean," a relatively young Soul Pet Master remarked.

Chu Mu glanced at this somewhat unfamiliar man and turned a questioning look toward Lin Mengling.

"He’s Tao Wang, a member of the Hidden-Pupil Royal Family’s Tao Clan. His strength is formidable," Lin Mengling explained.

"The New Moon Land will not fall!" Ning Man’er said, glaring at Tao Wang in displeasure.

"Fooling yourself won’t change anything. You don’t even understand how powerful the ancient Jiao person truly is! Those foolish regions also remain oblivious. Unwilling to relinquish their petty gains, they choose to stay. It’s only when the ancient Jiao person’s Sea of Death devours them and their families that they’ll realize how idiotic it was to remain here," Tao Wang snapped.

After the Liangkun Mountain Conference, most of the western regions of the Struggle Land began migrating. The ancient Jiao person’s presence did indeed pose a major threat to humanity.

However, not all regions were willing to abandon their lands. Some cities still held many people, clinging to the hopeful notion that as long as the New Moon Land endured in its treacherous position, they would not be the first to fall. They figured there would still be time to migrate if disaster arrived there first.

Both the Imperial Clan, the Divine Sect, and other forces worked to evacuate people from dangerous zones. Yet there were many who refused to leave, and the New Moon Land, in particular, was a completely autonomous territory beyond their jurisdiction.

"What’s your plan for dealing with the ancient Jiao person?" Chu Mu asked.

"Deal with it? Impossible. The best we can do now is eliminate its unruly subordinates before it wakes. Our mission is to kill the Snow Demon and the Wind Demon; these two alone are creatures of high-level immortality or above," Tao Wang responded.

"So that’s all you’ve come here to do?" Chu Mu asked.

Xiao Xue’ang and Tang Ang both nodded. "We’ll weaken them wherever we can. As for combating the ancient Jiao person itself... to be honest, we still have no definitive strategy. Perhaps we’ll be forced to abandon all of the western territories to that mad being and rely on stronger clans to contain it," they admitted.

"How many human leaders are there?" Chu Mu inquired.

Xiao Xue’ang looked puzzled by this question but estimated, "Between 30 and 40, more or less."

"Could they join forces to defeat the Jiao person?" Chu Mu pressed on.

Tao Wang interjected immediately, sneering, "Impossible. Even if all the leaders united, they’d stand no chance against the ancient Jiao person. Do you think those who cherish their lives so deeply would agree to such a suicidal plan?"

"So, within the human domain, no one is truly willing to stand against the ancient Jiao person?" Chu Mu asked calmly.

Xiao Xue’ang, Tang Ang, and the other two leaders fell silent.

Indeed, no leader had declared a willingness to face it.

The ancient Jiao person’s power was simply too overwhelming, rumored to be of undying-level strength. Furthermore, leaders—being the monarchs above all others—would never throw away their precious lives so easily.

Seeing the silence, Chu Mu understood their answer.

"You may leave," Chu Mu said.

The group was stunned. They had just arrived, and the King of the New Moon Land was already dismissing them?

"Leave? You want us to go?" Tao Wang said, shocked.

"Yes," Chu Mu nodded.

If no one was willing to confront the ancient Jiao person, then their presence here served no purpose.

"Chu Mu, don’t misunderstand. At the very least, we can help eliminate the ancient Jiao person’s subordinates. Without them, the chaos the Jiao person can unleash alone will be much smaller," Xiao Xue’ang argued.

"No need," Chu Mu replied.

"You... how arrogant! Do you think you can handle the ancient Jiao person on your own? You couldn’t even take down one of its subordinates, let alone comprehend what you’re dealing with!" Tao Wang said angrily.

"Chu Mu, we understand the New Moon Land means a lot to you, providing a home not just for your people but also for other races. But before the ancient Jiao person awakens, we must deal with its subordinates. Without them obstructing us, we might have a chance to devise a solution," Lin Mengling tried to persuade him.

"This unnatural snow and demonic wind will stop next month," Chu Mu stated.

"As long as the Snow Demon and Wind Demon are alive, the snow and wind will never stop," Tao Wang retorted with a cold laugh.

"They are already dead," Chu Mu looked at the arrogant man without bothering to argue further.

"Dead??" The group stared at Chu Mu in disbelief.

"When did they die? Who killed them?" Lin Mengling asked quickly.

Chu Mu pointed to himself.

"You killed them?" Lin Mengling’s small mouth opened in astonishment as she looked at him.

"Impossible! The Snow Demon and Wind Demon are high-level immortal beings! How could you possibly defeat them both alone?" Tao Wang scoffed.

Both Ning Man’er and Ye Qingzi were equally puzzled. Since Chu Mu’s return to Wanxiang City, neither had seen him take any action. How had the Snow Demon and Wind Demon both been slain?

"Awooo~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"

At that moment, a dragon’s roar reverberated from outside, followed by the heavy thud of something colossal hitting the ground. The impact caused the earth and the great hall to tremble violently.

"Their bodies have arrived. Go see for yourselves," Chu Mu gestured toward the outside.

The group, half-dubious, moved toward the great hall’s exit.

Outside was a broad watchtower drenched in blood.

Occupying the watchtower was a massive creature covered in snow and ice, roughly 20 meters in length.

While not extraordinary in size compared to other Soul Pets, its unique fur and powerful limbs clearly identified it as a formidable ice-type creature.

Raising their heads, the group stared at the lifeless corpse, their faces gradually consumed by shock.

"This... this really looks like the Sky-covering Snow Demon. It matches the descriptions in the records exactly," Lin Mengling murmured.

"This can’t be real. How did he manage to kill this thing!"

Standing beneath the corpse, Xiao Xue’ang finally turned his gaze back toward the great hall, focusing on Chu Mu seated at the main throne.

Was it truly him who slew it??

The Snow Demon and Wind Demon had always been described as terrifying beings in the records. That the Divine Sect sent Xiao Xue’ang, alongside three other leader-level experts, underscored their seriousness in facing such threats.

Yet when they arrived, they discovered Chu Mu had already slain the two creatures they had approached with utmost caution!

"Rustle, rustle, rustle~~~~~~~~"

The Little Zhe Dragon flapped its wings, its body already shrunk in size.

It flew straight past the group and toward Chu Mu.

As if showing off, the Little Zhe Dragon circled around Chu Mu, emitting repeated rustling noises.

Chu Mu patted its head with a faint smile.

"Little Zhe Dragon, was it you who killed the creature behind the snow disaster?" Ning Man’er asked.

The Little Zhe Dragon nodded vigorously.

"What a clever Little Zhe Dragon! Come, let big sister hug you," Ning Man’er beamed as she embraced the chubby Little Zhe Dragon, squeezing it like a ball for fun.

Seeing the Little Zhe Dragon, Ye Qingzi suddenly realized the truth.

While Chu Mu had been meditating, his Soul Pets had been out training.

It seemed Chu Mu had assigned them tasks to hunt down the ancient Jiao person’s gradually awakening subordinates.

Dream of Oblivion, Little Huangquan, Zhan Ye, the Little Zhe Dragon, Ye, Ning, the Demon Tree, and the Ghost Monarch—all of them had left in groups of four.

With Chu Mu in meditation, Fox Elder had taken charge of tracking the ancient Jiao person’s subordinates that were causing chaos. Any that awakened and wreaked havoc were promptly hunted by Chu Mu’s four-pet teams.

The Snow Demon and Wind Demon had likely been among the most challenging of these foes. Only shortly before Chu Mu woke up had the Little Zhe Dragon, Ye, Dream of Oblivion, and Ning managed to defeat them.

Thus, when the leaders of the human domain arrived claiming they were here to deal with the ancient Jiao person’s subordinates...

Chu Mu found it unnecessary. If they weren’t willing to face the ancient Jiao person directly, then its subordinates were better entrusted to him. After all, they provided excellent opportunities to further hone his Soul Pets, continually strengthening their abilities.
