Swallowed Star 2: Origin Continent
Chapter 127: The Emperor Takes a Disciple (1)A woman in green stood atop a tall building, gazing at the vast expanse of the Chu Capital.
“Was it worth coming to the Chu Capital for cultivation?” the woman pondered quietly. Back in a small border town, there were only a few dozen Eternal True Gods in total, and with her strength, she was one of the strongest. Life was comfortable and easy.
“In a small border town, I would never have access to powerful legacies, and breaking through to the Chaos Realm would be hopeless.”
“But coming to the Chu Capital, I quickly gained access to a suitable legacy! I even acquired considerable resources, and now I’ve reached the peak of the Eternal True God level,” the woman thought.
She had the legacy and resources, and her strength had increased significantly. She had mastered several Chaos Realm techniques and saw a glimmer of hope for breaking through to the Chaos Realm.
“Yet, with opportunity comes trouble,” she thought, troubled. “If it weren’t for the help of Marquis Chule, I might be worse off than dead right now.”
“But Marquis Chule, as a Third-Class Marquis of the royal family, holds no real power.”
The woman had been in the Chu Capital for a long time. She had established the Shallow Whisper Tower, gradually attracting many patrons with her musical illusions. Many powerful figures admired her. The Chu Capital was full of complex factions, and while she managed to trade for cultivation legacies and some resources, it wasn’t without a price.
“I’ve been very careful in the Chu Capital, taking each step cautiously, even avoiding controlling the minds of any important guests. But trouble still found me,” she sighed.
The power struggles in the Chu Capital were deeply intertwined. Even among the royal family’s First-Class Marquises, the competition was fierce. As a mere Eternal True God, she had been dragged into the dark whirlpools of conflict despite her best efforts to stay out of it.
“Hmm?” The woman suddenly noticed two figures approaching.
One was a man in black, accompanied by a sturdy servant.
“Luo He the Great Sage?”
The woman instantly recognized the man, her heart skipping a beat. It felt as if the sky had suddenly brightened. She hurried forward to greet him.
Inside the main building of the Shallow Whisper Tower.
“Just play a few of your best pieces,” Luo Feng said as he sat down. Morosa, on the other hand, was indulging in food and drink nearby. He was already accustomed to his master’s fondness for music, although, as a Boundary Beast, he had no interest in it.
Luo Feng, however, was quite interested. At the recent Dao discussion banquet, there had been many performers, but that setting wasn’t suitable for practicing the Seven Emotions Tempering Heart Technique.
Before coming, Luo Feng had gathered some information.
Among the top three performers skilled in musical illusions at the banquet, this woman in green, named Yu Youyi, was from a small border town in the Ancient Flame Kingdom. She was currently embroiled in a major conflict involving General Xue Chi, a deputy general of the Chu Capital.
“In a place like the Chu Capital, it’s not easy to avoid trouble,” Luo Feng mused. When he first arrived in the Chu Capital, even while staying secluded and avoiding conflict, he was targeted by Marquis Chu Yuan, Marquis Chu Ji, and three guest elders who had joined forces against him.
It wasn’t until he became a Chaos Realm Transcendent that he truly stood above such concerns.
Out of the three top performers from the Dao discussion banquet, Luo Feng chose her, partly out of a desire to help.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~~~
The woman in green began to play, surrounded by streams of water that served as her instruments, producing sounds reminiscent of the natural world. This music was so harmonious with the laws of the world that it even stirred Luo Feng’s emotions.
Luo Feng had already activated the Seven Emotions Tempering Heart Technique, allowing himself to become deeply immersed in the experience.
As the music touched his emotions, tears welled up in his eyes.
“Hmm?” The woman was surprised. How could someone cry from listening to music?
She dared not stop, focusing entirely on her performance and the accompanying illusions.
One piece flowed into another, and since Luo Feng didn’t signal her to stop, she continued playing.
“This Luo He the Great Sage seems to be easily moved by music? But at the Dao discussion banquet, he didn’t seem to care at all,” the woman thought, confident in her musical illusions.
She carefully observed Luo Feng while performing, ensuring there were no mistakes.
“That’s enough,” Luo Feng suddenly said.
The woman in green immediately stopped playing.
“That’s all for today,” Luo Feng said, standing up to leave.
For cultivators who live long lives and experience much, emotions can become numb.
The Seven Emotions Tempering Heart Technique, while it can intensely stimulate emotional responses, will, over time, lead to emotional desensitization. Therefore, it should only be used occasionally.
“The Seven Emotions Tempering Heart Technique is ultimately just a supplement. The Great Destruction Tempering Heart Technique is the foundation,” Luo Feng thought as he transitioned from the Seven Emotions Tempering Heart Technique to the Great Destruction Tempering Heart Technique.
He was long accustomed to the pain and suffering involved in tempering his mental will. This continuous tempering also kept his mind sharp and full of determination.
“What’s the cost?” Morosa asked as he saw his master stand up. He then waved his hand, gathering up the food and drink he and his master had enjoyed, and turned to the woman in green.
“It is a great honor for my Shallow Whisper Tower that Luo He the Great Sage graced us with his presence. There is no need for payment,” the woman said.
Morosa frowned, “My master doesn’t like taking advantage. Now, how much is it?”
“Ten Cosmos Sand should be sufficient,” the woman reluctantly replied.
Morosa waved his hand, sending out ten Cosmos Sand before quickly following Luo Feng as they left.
The woman in green escorted them to the door, watching as they disappeared into the sky.
“Just like that, they’re gone?” The woman felt a mix of excitement and apprehension.
…
Marquis Chu Yu’s Estate.
“Luo He the Great Sage went to the Shallow Whisper Tower?” Marquis Chu Yu had received the news. Given Luo Feng’s current status, Marquis Chu Yu kept a close eye on the guest elder’s every move, partly out of concern that other First-Class Marquises might try to win him over, and partly to ensure their relationship remained strong.
Marquis Chu Yu knew well that just because someone was once a friend didn’t mean they would remain so forever. Friendships needed to be maintained.
“This Luo He the Great Sage liked listening to music back in Huyang City and often became deeply absorbed in it, occasionally even losing composure,” Marquis Chu Yu thought with a smile. Back then, Luo Feng’s loss of composure had led some Eternal True Gods in Huyang City to believe his mental will was weak, assuming he was an ordinary Eternal True God.
This misconception led to Luo Feng’s first public action in Huyang City, when he easily captured the True God’s Heart of Vice President Lai Mo with a single move.
“At the Dao discussion banquet, he heard Yu Youyi’s musical illusions, and now he’s gone to see her privately… Clearly, he’s quite fond of her music,” Marquis Chu Yu mused, quickly giving instructions to his attendant.
“Take my estate’s token and visit the Shallow Whisper Tower,” Marquis Chu Yu ordered.
“Yes, Marquis,” the attendant replied and promptly left.
…
Luo Feng’s single visit to the Shallow Whisper Tower didn’t go unnoticed by the many factions in the Chu Capital!
Based on their understanding of this ‘Luo He the Great Sage,’ they knew he was a man who hated evil, had few hobbies, but enjoyed good food, wine, and music.
Yu Youyi’s name quickly came under the scrutiny of many factions.
“Luo He the Great Sage likes your musical illusions. This is a great opportunity for you. Here is a token from the Marquis Chu Yu’s estate. If you encounter any trouble, present this token. You can also contact me directly,” said one of Marquis Chu Yu’s attendants, who had brought several guards with him to the Shallow Whisper Tower to deliver the token to Yu Youyi.
After delivering the token, the attendants left.
Holding the token from Marquis Chu Yu’s estate, Yu Youyi felt as if all her troubles had vanished, and she was completely free.
In fact, even without the token, the news that a Chaos Realm Transcendent had visited the Shallow Whisper Tower to listen to her musical illusions would have been enough to make General Xue Chi wary.
…
Luo Feng’s days in the Chu Capital were peaceful.
When he was at the peak of the Chaos Realm, many factions still dared to provoke him or clash with him over interests. But once he became a Chaos Realm Transcendent, everyone— including the First-Class Marquises—actively sought his friendship.
“The seven First-Class Marquises of the Emperor Chu Lineage, the other six are quite impressive,” Luo Feng thought after assessing them through intelligence reports and personal encounters. “Only Marquis Chu Yuan seems a bit unhinged.”
During this period, Marquis Chu Yuan had been avoiding Luo Feng entirely, never meeting with him.
Luo Feng knew that Marquis Chu Yuan had the royal bloodline of the Ancient Thunder Kingdom and was also cultivating with the help of a primordial bloodline. The root cause of his violent and erratic behavior lay in his cultivation path.
“Brother Luo He, Brother Luo He,” Luo Feng suddenly received a
message, “Quickly prepare yourself. The Emperor’s personal guards are coming.”
Luo Feng, who had been calmly cultivating in his private chamber, was taken aback.
The Emperor naturally referred to Emperor Chu, one of the thirteen emperors of the Ancient Flame Kingdom. What could the Emperor’s personal guards be here for? According to Marquis Chu Yu’s earlier speculations, it might be that the Emperor was considering taking him as a disciple.
Whoosh.
Luo Feng quickly left his private chamber and waited with a calm mind. Morosa, sensing Luo Feng’s departure, also hurried over.
“Master, you’ve come out of seclusion so soon?” Morosa asked.
“A distinguished guest will be arriving soon,” Luo Feng replied, instructing, “Be vigilant.”
“A distinguished guest?” Morosa understood and stood by attentively.
Not long after, nine figures appeared out of nowhere in the sky. Among them was Marquis Chu Yu, while the other eight wore the armor of the Emperor Chu Palace’s personal guards, each in a unique style.
The leader of the nine was a figure clad in black, fluid armor with blood-red patterns.
“This is General Xuanjiao, one of the three personal guard generals who serve the Emperor,” Marquis Chu Yu introduced. “General Xuanjiao, this is Luo He, our guest elder.”
General Xuanjiao, a towering figure with black water flowing within his armor, had lifeless, black water eyes. His mere gaze made both Luo Feng and Morosa feel as if they were suffocating.
Under his gaze, it felt as though the world had fallen into a dead silence, engulfing them completely.
“According to the reports, the Emperor has three personal guard generals who are said not to be cultivators but rather mysterious beings,” Luo Feng thought. His first encounter with General Xuanjiao made him acutely aware of the vast difference in their power.
“Not a cultivator, yet so powerful?” Luo Feng knew that the Ancient Flame Kingdom held many secrets. Even the numerous opportunities granted by the mysterious Yuan were mostly monopolized by the two great kingdoms.
“Master, this General Xuanjiao is terrifying. I can tell that one move from him would be enough to end me,” Morosa conveyed telepathically to Luo Feng.
Luo Feng bowed, “Greetings, General Xuanjiao.”
Ordinary personal guards were merely Eternal True Gods, whose strength reached the Chaos Realm only with the help of borrowed power.
“Luo He,” General Xuanjiao’s tone softened slightly as he addressed Luo Feng, “The Emperor wishes to take you as a disciple. Are you willing? If so, come with me to the Emperor Chu Palace. If not… I’ll return and report.”
