Chapter 139 Future Memories
With golden wings on his back, Zhou Jun soared through the air, his eyes surveying the chaotic city of Tianhai.
In the next moment, his gaze settled on hundreds of soul beasts demolishing a building.
He landed right in the midst of the soul beasts. A confident grin stretched across his lips as he declared, "Sacrifice yourselves for me, lowly monsters."
The shadow of Gilgamesh emerged behind him, filling him with strength and pride.
In the next moment, hundreds of golden swords materialized in the air, relentlessly raining down upon the soul beasts.
Each falling sword killed them instantly. In just a few seconds, around 100 soul beasts perished.
A satisfied grin appeared on Zhou Jun's face. "I need to elevate this skill to a higher level," he muttered to himself.
Then, his gaze shifted to the rising smoke ahead. "The sand monster should be appearing shortly; I need to find a vintage point to watch," he said.
With that, he leaped and flew towards a specific location.
--------------
Long Tian stood atop a lamppost, observing his two black dragons as they slaughtered the remaining soul beasts.
He felt immense satisfaction with the evolution of his dragon companions. They had grown at least three times stronger than before, thanks to the celestial dragon bloodline that perfectly complemented his dragon origin.
Moments passed, and the two black dragons flew back toward him, transforming back into tattoos on his arms.
Long Tian landed on the ground. For now, his black dragons could stay manifested for approximately 10 minutes before needing to return to their dormant state.
For some reason, he sensed a cooldown effect on the skill deep in his subconscious.
His gaze shifted to the aftermath of the battle, where thousands of soul beast corpses lay strewn across the ground.
In truth, he was quite weary. He had been the primary force behind slaying the soul beasts. He had frequently used his lightning powers, aided, of course, by the hundreds of warriors from unknown factions who had fought alongside him.
At this moment, a middle-aged man with a single eye and several others approached him.
"Remarkable. Watching you fight was truly extraordinary. My name is Gu Jie, from Emberwing Academy. If I may ask, are you assistance sent by the empire?" he inquired, curiosity lacing his tone.
Many others beside him were equally intrigued. Long Tian appeared youthful, yet remarkably powerful.
"No, I come from the Long family," Long Tian replied.
Gu Jie raised an eyebrow. "The Long family? Are they aiding in the Rampage in Tianhai?" he asked.
"Well, here I am. And my name is Long Tian," Long Tian responded.
Gu Jie nodded thoughtfully, though the name Long Tian didn't immediately ring a bell. Nevertheless, he extended his gratitude, "Well, thank you for your invaluable assistance. We are sincerely grateful. Since this area has been cleared of the Rampage, it's essential that we divide the spoils amongst ourselves."
"That sounds like a fair plan," Long Tian nodded.
As Gu Jie was about to say something, suddenly, the ground trembled accompanied by a loud rumble.
Everyone grew alert and serious; the tremor had been strong enough to startle them.
The next moment, another deafening roar resounded, accompanied by a drizzle of sand falling from the sky.
Gu Jie raised his palm, furrowing his brow. "Sand? What the hell is going on?" he mused aloud.
"Perhaps it's from the Rampage in another block," one of his companions commented.
Many people began discussing the sudden tremors and sandstorm.
On the other hand, Long Tian felt a familiar aura akin to his own. His forehead creased as he looked toward a distant building.
His eyes narrowed as he saw what seemed like the figure of a man high in the sky.
"Long family members? No, this aura feels distinct," he pondered aloud, his brow furrowing.
The following moment, astonishment crossed his face as he witnessed a humanoid sand creature of massive proportions, towering three times higher than the tallest building in the city.
Gu Jie and the others also noticed the monster, shock and astonishment etched on their faces.
"What the hell is that? Isn't that monster way too large?"
"Damn, its size even surpasses the Burj Khalifa!"
"Are we going to fight a monster that colossal? Damn it, I want to go home!"
Many Emberwing Academy students expressed their surprise at the size of the sand monster.
It was far too massive, almost impossible to defeat.
However, everyone was shocked once again when they saw the sand monster engaging in battle with a figure in the sky.
Thousands of gigantic spears materialized behind the figure, raining mercilessly upon the sand monster.
The monster couldn't even retaliate; the spears bombarded it relentlessly, each time one ended, another immediately appeared.
Many people beneath gazed at the magnificent sight in the air with awe.
"Whoa, is that a transcendent realm cultivator? His power is truly awe-inspiring."
"Yes, judging from his strength, he must be Lu Zhen, a senior from the Profound Heaven Academy."
"Ohh, that's him? No wonder he's so powerful."
People discussed the aerial battle, many already recognizing the figure.
Lu Zhen was highly renowned for frequently participating in the extermination of soul beasts attacking cities, making him somewhat of an idol for young men.
He was one of the strongest humans throughout the Han Empire.
At this moment, Lu Zhen's spear assault ceased, his efforts feeling futile as the sand monster effortlessly reverted to its original form.
The sand monster attacked, its massive arms reaching for Lu Zhen.
However, Lu Zhen easily evaded its grasp, soaring higher into the air.
In the next instant, the imposing shadow of a colossal dragon with fiery whiskers, sharp fangs, and claws emerged behind him.
His martial spirit was a dragon, despite not hailing from the Long family. It was the S-Class: Zhulong.
Two wings unfurled behind him, accompanied by two horns on his forehead. He flew closer to the sand monster; his mouth bulged, and the next moment, he spewed blue flames at the sand creature, engulfing it in fire.
The monster screamed in agony, its sandy body burning from the blue flames.
While spewing fire, Lu Zhen also flapped his wings, creating a strong wind that battered the creature.
The monster weakened further, yet, it showed no signs of surrender. It hurled thick, dense sands toward Lu Zhen, obscuring his vision and causing him to hold his dragon breath.
Due to the thick sand, his vision blurred, and he was suddenly confronted by the monster's colossal hands.
Thump!
He was crushed by the monster's enormous hands as if he were a mere mosquito.
The monster seemed to grin after its brutal assault.
But in the next moment, its hands suddenly exploded, sending sand scattering in the air.
It slowly reverted to its original form, but Lu Zhen didn't allow it.
"Come forth, Zhulong!" he roared.
In the next moment, Zhulong itself materialized in the form of energy, colossal in size, hovering behind Lu Zhen.
"ROAAAAARRR!" Zhulong roared, causing the sands on the monster's body to disperse.
Zhulong flew with its long body, piercing through the sand monster's colossal form.
From the arms to its body, then to its neck and head... The sand monster no longer resembled a human.
Meanwhile, Lu Zhen suddenly noticed something amidst the creature's body. It was a kind of large crystal.
A brilliant idea flashed in his mind, and he immediately flew toward the crystal.
The crystal was immediately covered by sand, but he already knew its location.
His fist clenched, and he struck it at the crystal's spot.
Crack!
The sound of cracking echoed, and the crystal showed visible cracks.
Lu Zhen grinned; he didn't know if his intuition was right or not, but shattering the crystal would undoubtedly affect the sand monster.
However, his eyes widened as he saw concentrated energy from the remnants of the crystal.
He quickly dodged.
Boom!
The crystal exploded with a massive blast, making the sand scatter across the city.
Many people below shielded themselves from the explosion, but they weren't quick enough as the countless sands immediately pelted their bodies.
The vast city of Tianhai was now buried under thick dust. Even the streets were no longer asphalt but sand, resembling a desert.
People began to rise after being buried under the thick sand.
"Ugh, damn, this sand is nearly 5 meters high."
"Ah, my mouth is filled with sand!"
"Did Lu Zhen win? The explosion didn't kill him, did it?"
---
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Zhou Jun shook off his dust-covered clothes. He leaped high into the air, surveying the entire area now blanketed in sand.
After a few moments, his eyes landed on a rooftop with a different sand color. To most human eyes, it might be indistinguishable, but he could discern it.
He immediately landed on that rooftop, his gaze fixed on a crystal affixed to the wall.
A grin crept onto his face, "Hehe, this is exactly the same as in my memories of the future."
