Deus Ex Machina.
He was the System God, and most commonly known as the God of Machines.
And he had this one special ability that made him stand out.
This ability had made countless Readers gnash their teeth in anger.
Coincidentally, it was also called “Deus Ex Machina.”
But what exactly was the power of the Deus Ex Machina ability? It magically solved what should’ve been an unsolvable problem through an out-of-the-box way without rhyme or reason.
Some people simplified it into two words, and it was…
Plot Armor.
For example, a Level 1 hero had a gazillion enemies all working hard to take their life. But guess what? Yes. Like a cockroach, the dear hero was safe and sound.
What struggle? Did it even matter?
And in the case that the hero wasn’t safe and sound… Was he dead?
No way! How could a main character die forever?
Of course, someone with seven legendary balls that could summon a dragon who could grant any wish would appear and save the main character’s ass.
Not that? The hero fell off a cliff?
Boom! The hero coincidentally landed on an extremely rare divine herb that could heal mortal wounds and unlock their hidden bloodline.
Oh no~! The hero lost an arm.
But was that really a problem? Of course not.
Out of nowhere, a mysterious old man appeared and gave him a better one—crafted from ancient god-metal and forged by Dwarves who had sworn to aid only protagonists.
What was next?
Main character about to lose the final boss fight?
Oops! Turns out his necklace had been the lost core of the Celestial Gear all along, a divine relic capable of rewriting reality once per arc.
Coincidence? Not at all.
System God.
He never followed logic. Why? Because he was the logic.
To some, he was a miracle.
To others, a narrative parasite.
But to every story that had ever backed itself into a corner, he was the nuclear escape button. The Patron God of authors who had no plan past chapter 100.
And worst of all?
He always arrived just in time.
Even if he had never been mentioned before.
Even if the author had sworn the story was going to be “grounded realism.”
Because that was the true power of Deus Ex Machina.
You wouldn’t see him coming…
Until it was far too late.
It could be said as the most powerful cheat in existence.
A cheat that only the System God, Deus Ex Machina, could use.
The System God took a step forward, and time moved extremely slowly, nearly to a standstill.
He walked past the Monkey King, who was currently in mid-swing. Sun Wukong still had a devilish look on his face as if he was enjoying his battle to the fullest.
A moment later, Deus Ex Machina slowly descended from the sky and approached Zed, who seemed to be frozen in place, just like the Monkey King.
The System God then looked at the young lady in the Jinn’s arms.
Deep inside, he felt very complicated. After all, he was the one who actually sent the blacksheep of his family to Pangea.
And now, he was taking her back by force because there was a chance that she would be able to break the restrictions he had placed inside of her body, making her an existence that would be deemed as a “Rule Breaker.”
Usually, the consequences when an existence like this appeared were hard to deal with.
Just like how the immune system of the body would send white blood cells to fight off any infections, a powerful law in the multiverse would also come into action.
A powerful being, akin to a deity, would suddenly appear and erase the “virus” in order to fix the problem.
Deus Ex Machina understood that this might happen to Thirteen, so despite the fact that he was taking her back with him, it was actually a way to prevent some unknown law from erasing his existence from the world.
“You can complain later,” the System God muttered. “But I’m taking you with me.”
He was playing a game with his son—a game with rules. But if some outside interference were to flip their chessboard, he would have no option but reset everything from the start.
But just as his hand was about to touch the young lady, his hand was gently pushed away by a wooden staff that appeared out of nowhere.
Compared to Sun Wukong’s weapon, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, the wooden staff didn’t look that special.
However, within that world, where everything was at a standstill, it appeared and pushed away the hand that was about to touch the young lady whom Deus Ex Machina wished to retrieve.
“First, the Monkey King, and now a wooden staff?” The System God smiled faintly. “What’s next? An entire Nordic Pantheon?”
Undeterred, the System God reached out to hold the young lady a second time, but the wooden staff once again pushed his hand away.
“Look, I don’t have the time to play with you,” the System God stated. “I don’t know who you are, what you are, or what your reason for existing is. I’m taking my child with me, so can you stop getting in the way?”
The System God reached out towards Zia for the third time, but the staff still pushed his hand away.
At last, impatience got the better of the System God, and he snapped—something that very rarely happened.
He was a special existence.
Someone who could calculate anything and everything in the multiverse.
But for some reason, this wooden staff kept on getting in his way, so he decided to destroy it.
However, just as he was about to do it, someone tugged on his arm, making him look toward his right side.
There, he saw two little girls, who were looking at him as if he were stealing their candies.
“You can’t do that, Mister.”
“Cinnamon thinks that you shouldn’t do this too, Mister.”
The System God had finally reached his limit, worn down by creatures constantly getting in his way whenever he made a move.
A God couldn’t descend on a world without consequences, and Deus Ex Machina was in borrowed time.
By staying in Pangea, he would break the balance of the world, for he wasn’t an existence supposed to appear there.
Still, he had confidence that he would be able to take his son back to the Celestial Realm, where he would seal Thirteen for a thousand years and reset his system core.
He believed that this would relieve him of all of his memories and the burdens weighing him down.
Thirteen could start again, and this time, the System God would only allow him to become the System of Heroes. That way, he would never have to suffer another round of heartaches.
He didn’t care about the two girls and ignored them completely. For the nth time, he swatted the wooden staff, which was blown away for a few hundred meters.
But when he was about to grab Thirteen, the System God felt a chill run down his spine because something behind him was about to destroy him.
“You. Can’t. Do. That. Mister.”
“Cinnamon. Thinks. That. You. Should. Not. Touch. Big. Brother. Okay?”
The System God had never felt fear for his life in the past.
But now, he felt it.
He felt like he was only seconds away from death.
And the cause of this fear was the two little girls behind his back, whom he was afraid to look at for a second time.
After an internal struggle, Deus Ex Machina sighed and reluctantly pulled back his hand from the young lady whose bloodline was about to awaken.
Immediately, the pressure he felt disappeared.
He then looked at the two dwarven girls with a solemn expression.
“Both of you don’t understand the consequences of this choice,” the System God said firmly. “By preventing me from taking him, you will endanger his life.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Maple replied. “Big Brother is fighting against Fate. If he gets erased in the process, he will have no one to blame but himself.”
“Cinnamon likes big brother, so I’m siding with him,” Cinnamon stated. “Regardless of what happens, Mister is not allowed to interfere!”
The two dwarves crossed their arms over their chests, which might look comical to others.
However, they were special existences.
Existences that could devour even Gods.
They were children born from a God Slayer and a dwarven lady who bore the sin of Gluttony.
This union had given birth to two existences who broke all the rules in the world and treated the multiverse, as well as time and space, as their own playground.
“Fine. But don’t cry later when you see him get erased from existence.” The System God glared at the two adorable gluttons before flying back up to the Celestial Realm.
Maple and Cinnamon glanced at Zia for a few seconds before they opened a portal behind them and disappeared from sight.
Time once again returned to normal, and soon, another struggle was about to begin.
