Alister and Miyu turned, their eyes meeting the cold blue gaze of Union Branch Director Aethel. The silver-haired man stood flanked by Union officers, all in dark suits. A black limo could be seen far behind them, its polished surface reflecting the neon lights of the city.

Aethel sighed, shaking his head slightly. “You’re always full of surprises, Alister. But this? Never in my life would I have guessed that the Union President himself was your father.”

He spoke calmly, but there was a trace of genuine surprise in his voice.

“I’m honestly surprised he didn’t announce this over a live broadcast for the entire Mega City to hear.”

He could have. Galisk was the kind of man who showed his love and care in genuine but sometimes extreme ways. A good example was how he treated his wife—Alister and Miyu’s mother—when she was alive.

He had treated her like a queen—not just in private, but for the world to see. He had wanted everyone to know that she was the most important person in his life.

Alister exhaled, crossing his arms. “I talked him out of it. I didn’t want life here to be more complicated than it already is.”

Aethel nodded. “I see. I thought after your dragon’s little display during the last Grand Meeting, you wanted to be known by everyone in the Mega City.”

Alister glanced at the night sky, his golden eyes reflecting the distant city lights. “Maybe you’re right. But life is often filled with surprises.”

Aethel gestured toward the limo, bowing his head slightly. “If you will… young master, young miss, your ride awaits.”

Alister barely spared it a glance. “That won’t be necessary.”

A sudden shift in the air. A golden portal spiraled open. From within, a massive steel wyvern emerged, its silver-scaled body glinting under the city’s lights. The creature stepped forward, its heavy frame making the ground tremble slightly before it lowered its head in submission.

Alister raised a hand, patting the wyvern’s head. Its gleaming yellow eyes flickered, as if acknowledging his touch. “This will be much faster.”

Aethel observed the creature, then nodded. “I understand.”

There was a pause before he spoke again. “Would you like to be invited to board meetings in the future?”

Alister barely looked at him. “Hardly. Just do what you’ve always done, Branch Director.”

Aethel gave a small, knowing smile. “As you wish.”

Miyu stared, utterly captivated by the sight of the creature.

“Whoa…”

Her fingers twitched, barely resisting the urge to touch the wyvern herself. Slowly, she reached out and ran her hand along its metallic scales, her smile widening.

“Alister… can you call out more of ’em?” she asked, excitement burning in her bright eyes.

Alister glanced at her, amusement flickering in his golden gaze. Then, with a slight smirk, he patted her head.

“I’ll show you plenty of them later. Let’s head back to the guild,” he said simply.

Miyu pouted for a moment but nodded, still staring at the wyvern with fascination. She’d hold him to that promise.

With that, they took to the night sky.

The steel wyvern’s wings spread wide, cutting through the air. The neon glow of the Mega City faded behind them, replaced by the deep blues and blacks of the open sky. Miyu laughed, the rush of wind whipping through her hair as she held on tightly.

Alister, however, remained calm. His golden gaze stayed fixed on the distant horizon, his thoughts drifting elsewhere.

‘Protect the world.’

That was what Galisk had said. But from what?

He could have asked him what he meant, but he coukd tell he wouldn’t have told him anything.

The world was already plagued by dungeons—That much was known. That much was a fact.

But Galisk had spoken as if there was something else. Something greater.

Alister murmured to himself, barely audible over the wind. “What plagues the world… besides the dungeons? Coukd it be the darkness?”

He frowned. The words lingered, sinking into his thoughts like an itch he couldn’t scratch.

Alister then reached out through a telepathic link.

~’Terra, I want you to investigate something for me.’ ~

A moment passed before her calm voice answered him.

~’And what might that be, my lord?’ ~

Sector II – Onyx Vale Street

The streetlights flickered dimly over the cracked pavement of Onyx Vale Street, one of the many worn-down industrial roads in Sector II.

The smell of oil, rust, and distant exhaust fumes clung to the air, mixing with the occasional stench of stagnant water pooled in the gutters.

Abandoned warehouses lined the street, their metal siding rusted and worn, graffiti tagging the walls in a chaotic mess of colors. A faint hum of neon signs came from a few open shops in the distance, but here, in front of the looming dungeon gate, only the low murmur of voices filled the night.

Standing at the mouth of the gate, Squad 07 of the Blue Seals prepped for their raid. Their armored exo-suits, reinforced with hexagonal plating, gleamed under the sun light. Six raid members, the squad leader, the tank, the scout, the elemantalist, the healer and the sniper.

They adjusted their gear while a pair of porters checked their supplies.

Behind them, a Union officer stood watching, arms crossed, his blavk uniform crisp and formal, a stark contrast to the rugged combat-ready look of the Blue Seals.

A translucent system window hovered just above the dungeon entrance, its glowing text displaying the details of their assignment:

_______

DUNGEON NAME: Abyssal Nest

DUNGEON RANK: A-RANK

DUNGEON TYPE: Field

_______

“Another day, another payday,” Rael, the squad leader, muttered as he adjusted the strap of his sword. He was a broad-shouldered man with a cybernetic eye that flickered every time he checked his HUD.

“You sound like you ain’t looking forward to this, boss,” Kell, a scout, chuckled, double-checking the sharp edge of his daggers. “This is an Abyssal Nest. Plenty of loot, plenty of action. What’s not to love?”

“Yeah, unless those damn broodlings start swarming us like last time,” Viessa, their sniper, added, casually leaning against a rusted railing. “I still have nightmares about scraping their acidic guts off my scope.”

Rael smirked but then gestured toward the Union officer standing nearby. “What I wanna know is why the hell the Union is here. We’ve run raids like this dozens of times without needing babysitters.”

The officer, Orlan, adjusted his gloves before answering. “Due to recent incidents, the Union has mandated stricter oversight on dungeon classifications. If a gate’s rank unexpectedly rises, we report it immediately and follow emergency protocols. Your team is experienced, yes, but anomalies are becoming more frequent.”

“Anomalies, huh?” Joran, their tank expert, scoffed. “That just means we’re gonna do your job for you while you stand around and ‘monitor’ the situation.”

Orlan’s expression didn’t change. “It also means that if something goes wrong, we’re the first to call it in and deploy reinforcements.”

Rael sighed. “Reinforcements that can only step in after we die, wow, real assuring. Fine, whatever. Just stay out of our way.” He turned to his team. “Alright, standard formation. Sweep and clear. Let’s move.”

One by one, the Blue Seals entered the shimmering blue portal of the dungeon gate. As Rael stepped through, the world around him shifted—

BZZZZZT—

A deafening surge of energy pulsed through the air. The dungeon gate behind them flashed violently, the swirling blue vortex twisting into a deep crimson.

A powerful shockwave blasted outward, sending officer Orlan and the other Union officers staggering backward. One nearly lost his footing, barely catching himself on the hood of a nearby transport vehicle.

Then, a new system window materialized in front of them, this one in red:

_______

DUNGEON NAME:???

NEW RANK: SSS-Rank

DUNGEON TYPE: ???

______

Orlan’s eyes widened. “Shit.” He spun around, barking orders to his officers. “Get the comms up! Contact Union HQ immediately!”

One of the officers scrambled for his communicator, his hands shaking. “Sector II, Onyx Vale Street! We have an SSS-Rank Dungeon anomaly! Blue Seals are inside—repeat, Blue Seals are trapped inside!”

….

….

Inside the dungeon, the air was thick… Really thick red mist. Rael’s HUD glitched, momentarily distorting the readouts. His instincts screamed that something was terribly wrong.

“Squad, report!” he called out.

One by one, his team’s vitals appeared on his display. They were all accounted for—but the surroundings were… different.

What was once supposed to be an Abyssal Nest was now something else entirely. The ground beneath them was no longer the cracked stone of a subterranean hive.

Instead, they stood on a twisted landscape of floating obsidian platforms, suspended in a void of endless red mist. Strange, distorted shapes flickered in and out of sight—watching.

Kell swallowed hard. “Uh, boss… what the hell is this place?”

Rael exhaled, gripping his weapon tighter.

“An anomaly,” he muttered. “And we just walked straight into it.”

A low, droning hum echoed through the void, vibrating in their bones. Shifting shadows flickered across the mist, their forms warping and twisting unnaturally. The HUD continued to glitch, flickering between reality and unreadable static.

“Stay together,” Rael ordered, voice tight. “Weapons hot. Anything moves—we drop it.”
