Arthur’s vision blurred as hot, bitter tears welled up, cascading down his face in silent rivulets. His chest heaved, overcome with heart-wrenching grief, as he desperately cradled Anna’s lifeless body. His voice trembled, each word fractured and heavy, filled with an anguish that shook him to his core.
“Why…why did it have to be like this…? This isn’t fair…”
Rachel, Amelia, Grace, and Yui exchanged sorrowful glances. Their hearts broke at seeing Arthur so vulnerable, stripped bare of all strength. Rachel moved instinctively forward, wanting to comfort her nephew, to somehow soften the brutal pain he was feeling.
“Don’t… let him…” Aira’s frail, gentle voice suddenly murmured softly, barely audible yet filled with a quiet certainty.
Rachel immediately halted, turning back in surprise. Amelia and Yui glanced at Aira with confused expressions, but after a brief hesitation, stepped back as well, respecting Aira’s gentle wisdom. Clearly, the old woman knew her son’s heart best.
The silence stretched somberly around them, broken gently by the soft shuffle of feet as one of the leaders of the gathered Hunters approached Hiroto respectfully. He spoke quietly, voice low and determined.
“Judge, some of us will now go and disable the failsafes surrounding the control panel of the Nexus Tower, as we discussed.”
Hiroto gave a slow, thoughtful nod. “Proceed carefully. Derek wouldn’t make it easy but dangerous,” The Hunters swiftly departed, entering the broken building Anna had stormed through earlier, leaving the solemn scene behind.
Rachel glanced worriedly at Aira, whispering softly, “Maybe he’ll feel better if you say something to him… He needs to hear your voice now, more than ever.”
But Aira only gently shook her head, her ancient, wise gaze resting steadily upon Arthur, compassion tempered with understanding. “Some things he has to face himself… and find the answers.”
Rachel furrowed her brows, confusion tightening her heart. Here was a mother, separated from her child for angels know how long, finally seeing him again, yet Aira seemed calm, restrained.
Her confidence bewildered Rachel, making her wonder why she was being like this.
Aira’s gaze gently drifted towards the distant Martian horizon, her eyes softening as they met the faint sun dipping low, bathing the sky in a surreal, muted orange.
The sunset on Mars was a quiet, ethereal spectacle—a luminous orb suspended within thin, pinkish-red skies, casting long, solemn shadows over the barren landscape. It was hauntingly beautiful, serene yet starkly lonely.
“The most powerful thing about the sun,” Aira whispered softly, breaking the silence with delicate reverence and warmth, “is that no matter where we are, its light will always reach us.”
Rachel, Amelia, and Yui exchanged puzzled glances, uncertain what Aira was trying to imply. Before they could question her cryptic words further, a subtle, gentle vibration resonated through the air, a tremor that stirred their senses and made their breath catch.
They turned sharply toward Arthur, their gazes instantly drawn to him. Arthur knelt quietly on the reddish Martian soil, head bowed deeply over Anna’s cold, lifeless form. A gentle yet radiant white glow had begun to emanate softly from his trembling hands, the faint sunlight gently illuminating them both.
Amelia shook her head sadly, sighing deeply after guessing that Arthur was desperately trying to heal a dead body, “What is he doing…? Maybe we really should talk to him now. Someone like him… might find it hard to accept what happened.”
“No, wait…” Layla stepped forward, her crimson eyes narrowing intently, a rare expression of deep curiosity and wonder flickering across her usually cold and intense face. “Something strange is happening.”
All eyes locked intently onto Arthur as the glow intensified gradually, the gentle, radiant white becoming brighter and more luminous. Arthur’s tears continued to stream down his face, his hands trembling with raw, overpowering emotions.
He wasn’t thinking clearly, wasn’t trying to consciously summon any power—only a desperate, profound yearning filled his heart. He simply wanted her alive. He couldn’t accept anything else.
“I can’t lose you…” Arthur whispered brokenly, voice shaking, thick with profound sorrow and longing, his words directed solely to the still form in his arms. “I won’t… you…you have to come back to me.” His voice hardened with utmost determination from the bottom of his soul.
And then, without him consciously realizing, a force ancient and powerful surged from deep within him, triggered by the sheer intensity of his love, grief, and desperation.
His fingers shone with blinding white radiance, and suddenly, space around Anna’s body began to ripple gently, like water touched softly by unseen hands.
Rachel’s eyes widened sharply in astonishment, her voice trembling with disbelief. “What’s going on…?”
Layla’s cold crimson eyes filled with awe, her usually calm voice shaking slightly with reverence. “He’s using time itself to reverse the damage…”
“Time?” Grace murmured incredulously, breath catching sharply. “You mean, he’s literally bringing her back to life? Reversing her injuries, as if they never happened…? That shouldn’t be possible…No human can wield such a divine power…”
“There are some things you need to know…” Hiroto briefly moved his staff as he used his mindforce to bring Grace, Amelia and Yui up to speed on things.
Yet their eyes remained fixated on Arthur, watching breathlessly as his radiant white energy enveloped Anna’s battered form, gently yet powerfully reshaping reality itself.
The skies themselves now seemed to respond to Arthur’s defiant act. The heavens trembled, clouds swirling chaotically above him, lightning crackling ominously across the Martian horizon. A deep, resonant rumbling echoed throughout the air, growing louder, as if the very universe itself recoiled at Arthur’s audacity.
The fabric of reality seemed to shudder and warp around him, mana sparking uncontrollably, streaks of pure white lightning cracking through the sky. A sense of impossible pressure settled over the gathered crowd, briefly forcing them to their knees, eyes wide in awe, terror, and disbelief.
Anna’s torn, bleeding flesh began to move subtly—deep wounds sealing themselves, shattered bone and torn muscle seamlessly mending beneath the mystical light.
Arthur’s body shuddered violently beneath the immense strain, veins glowing brilliantly beneath his skin as golden-white mana cascaded around him in a blinding tempest. Pain tore relentlessly through his body, yet he stubbornly refused to yield.
Above him, the Martian sky roared its disapproval, reality itself straining beneath the weight of his desperate act that went against the very laws of nature.
Arthur’s trembling fingers touched Anna’s still cheek gently, his heart aching fiercely, “Anna…you have to give me a second chance…I can’t live without you…”
Amelia gasped softly, tears filling her eyes as her hand clutched tightly to Yui’s arm in disbelief and awe, “Her heart… it—it’s starting to beat again…”
Indeed, Anna’s chest slowly, subtly rose and fell as a gentle rhythm returned to her heart. Her injuries flowed steadily backward, vanishing into nothingness. The dark yellow veins, once pulsing ominously beneath her skin, gradually retreated, replaced by smooth, healthy flesh, unscarred and untouched.
Arthur’s eyes glowed intensely, radiant white blazing brilliantly from within, his expression now calm, almost serene, entirely focused on her. His entire being became a vessel for power long hidden, deeply buried within his very soul—a power only awakened in this moment of absolute emotional clarity.
Cecilia, eyes wide with reverence and wonder, murmured softly, “Because he is no ordinary child, as you all know…” Her gaze briefly flickered toward Aira, recognizing something deep and knowing within Aira’s gentle, composed expression.
Rachel turned slowly, realizing why Aira had seemed so certain and calm earlier. Aira already knew Arthur would find this power within himself—that his overwhelming love and pain would unlock something extraordinary.
Aira softly met Rachel’s gaze, a knowing and gentle smile tugging slightly at her aged lips. “Sometimes… we find our true strength not in calm moments, but within our deepest sorrows and hopes. Arthur has always carried that within him. His father is like that too.”
Rachel swallowed softly, her heart overwhelmed by the revelation, understanding now why Aira held back earlier, why she had calmly waited for Arthur to discover this impossible, miraculous power.
Slowly, the intense radiance surrounding Arthur and Anna began to fade, gently retreating until only a soft glow lingered. Anna’s eyes fluttered briefly before slowly opening, now bright, clear, and beautifully alive.
“Anna…” Arthur whispered softly, tears of disbelief and joy streaming down his pale face. He trembled as he met her gaze again, unable to form further words through his immense relief and wonder.
An overwhelming silence enveloped the area as hundreds of thousands of Hunters stood rooted, staring with eyes widened in shock and disbelief. Their previous admiration for Arthur paled in comparison to the profound reverence and awe that now filled their gazes. Whispers rippled through the crowd like gentle waves, hushed yet filled with deep wonder.
“A Hunter truly blessed by the angels…” one Hunter murmured softly, his voice trembling with awe.
“A miracle,” another whispered fervently, barely believing his own words.
“Have the heavens themselves touched him…?” a woman quietly wondered aloud, tears of gratitude brimming in her eyes.
“No wonder…the son of Golden Prince and the Goddess of the Evangelion Family can’t be any less than divine…”
The murmurs faded gently into an awed stillness as Anna stirred softly in Arthur’s embrace, her eyelids fluttering weakly open. Her eyes, still hazy with confusion, slowly came into focus, meeting Arthur’s gentle, tearful gaze.
“A-Arthur…?” Anna’s voice trembled, filled with disbelief and wonder, her eyes tracing his features uncertainly. Slowly, hesitantly, she reached up, fingertips grazing gently against his warm cheek, as though verifying he was truly there and trying to make sense of how she was back, “This… How… Is this the afterlife?”
Arthur chuckled softly through his tears, the sound raw and heavy with emotion. He gently took her hand, pressing it warmly against his cheek, reassuring her softly, “No…this is as real as it could ever get. You came back. I knew… I knew you would come back…”
Anna’s breath caught sharply, disbelief still lingering in her expression as her gaze flickered around, taking in the watching crowd, their awestruck faces, and the surreal Martian sky above. Everything felt dreamlike, yet undeniably vivid and alive. Her heart thudded rapidly, confusion gradually shifting into profound gratitude and relief.
Arthur’s voice was soft yet filled with quiet determination and sorrow, his eyes brimming with raw vulnerability. “I couldn’t let you go like that… I won’t let you leave me behind again…” His eyes began to flutter closed as the overwhelming exhaustion finally took its toll, his body sagging limply.
Anna quickly reacted, catching him gently in her embrace before he could collapse fully to the ground. Tears welled fiercely in her eyes, streaming unchecked down her cheeks, as she clung desperately to him, overwhelmed by the enormity of being alive and reunited.
“I will always be with you… forever…” Anna whispered fiercely, a tearful smile breaking through her sorrow and disbelief. She tightened her embrace, holding him protectively against her chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart matching her own.
Watching from a short distance, Rachel, Grace, Amelia, Yui, Cecilia, and Layla all exchanged warm, relieved glances, soft smiles touching their faces. Despite the darkness that loomed on the horizon, despite the battles and trials still awaiting them, this moment felt profoundly hopeful and comforting.
The future was uncertain, yet here was undeniable proof—miracles existed, and perhaps, in this moment, hope truly conquered all darkness.
