Night soon descended.
Only when the sun had almost set did Shien finally leave the palace. He got ready to head back to the Latrard family home while rubbing his eyes.
"Today is yet another day where I stuffed my head completely full…"
Shien sighed as he headed out on the road toward the noble district.
"For astro magic, there are still 224 beginner class spells, 78 mid class spells, and 25 high class spells left to memorize. And then there's enchant magic. That one can't even be counted via numbers but by the 34 thick books of incantations left…"
"And I still have to memorize all of them."
"Sigh. Just how long are these days going to last?"
Shein felt like he's at the limit of his little act as an eager student.
"To think that I had even imagined learning all the magic there is. That was seriously unrealistic."
If he's really forced to memorize the incantations for all the magic in the world, then Shien felt like he may very well end up spending the entirety of the rest of his life on it.
"Could this be what it means when it's said that one never stops studying?"
When he thought on that saying for a bit, Shien shuddered.
Thus, Shien had already decided.
"In the future, astro and enchant magic are going to be my main focus. I'm definitely not learning any other magic."
For the sake of that, Shien had even completely forgotten the magic skills for the four elemental magic types that he previously learned.
Skills can in fact be forgotten.
This is a method that all beings capable of learning skills are capable of using.
When someone is dissatisfied with the skills that they've learned, or if they're very lacking in skill points, then they can chose to forget a skill that they've previously learned and get the skill points spent on said skill back.
Of course, this isn't something that one could just casually use.
The moment one were to select a skill to be forgotten, it will end up causing two negative side effects.
1: The skill that was forgotten cannot be regained no matter what.
2: Only about half of the skill points spent on the forgotten skill can be regained. There's even possibilities where the skill points returned was less than 1/10 of what was originally spent.
Thus, unless one was extremely desperate for skill points or if they learned the wrong skill, most normal people would never chose to use this method.
Shien didn't want to do it at the start either. However, he had a discovery. Due to the [Heavenly Grace] skill's effect, he doesn't seem like he's affected by those sides effects.
"After all, [Heavenly Grace] lowers the requirements for gaining skills to the absolute minimum. Plus, all requirements for raising skill levels are also reduced to the absolute minimum.
Since all the learn conditions for all skills are set at the minimum, then although regaining the previously forgotten skills is impossible for all others, that's not the case for Shien at all.
Since all skills' leveling requirement is also set at the minimum, that means that Shien only ever spends one skill points for each level up.
And when the skill points regained for forgetting a skill is calculated, it's not calculated all together, but rather by each level on their own.
For example, say someone spent 10 skill points to level up a skill from level one to level two. In that case, the skill points he gets back will be half or 1/10th of 10. If he then spent 20 skill points to level the skill from level two to three, then the skill points returned will be half or 1/10th of 20. It doesn't work by adding up all the skill points used from level one to three and then taking half or 1/10th of the total.
That means that Shien can completely regain all the skill points he used.
That's because he only ever spent 1 skill point for each skill level up.
And skill points do not have any concept of a number below 1.
Thus, whenever someone forgets a skill, they'd regain at the very minimum one skill point for each level of that skill.
And for Shien who only ever spends one skill point per level, his expended and regained skill points are thus completely the same, so there's no loss whatsoever.
After learning that, Shien decisively chose to forget all four elemental skills.
Although Shien does have a lot of skill points, to the point where he'd never need to worry about running short, it's also completely pointless to keep those four elemental magic skills. If he keeps them around, Shien will continue to be motivated to go try to memorize the incantations for the spells of those four elemental magic types. Thus, Shien decided to firm his determination and just forget the magic skills and cut away the temptation.
The main point though, is that if he uses enchant magic, then it's also quite simple to copy the effects of those four elemental magic types.
In that case then, Shien felt like there's no need for him to really remember those beginner class magic that he previously learned.
Only…
"Speaking of though, back then, I even ended up tricking people with these magics."
Now, they've been forced into permanent retirement.
"Am I perhaps a bit too ungrateful doing this?"
Shien shook his heavy head and continued moving forward as he he thought of those pointless things.
Just then though…
"Mister Shien."
A voice called out to Shien.
"Eh?"
Shien felt like the voice sounded very familiar, so he stopped, shook off his heavy head and refreshed his mind, before then turning around toward where the voice came from.
When he saw the person there, Shien was stunned.
What appeared before him was the figure of someone who shouldn't be here.
"Lasha?"
Shien spoke out in surprise.
It was indeed the Leisha's personal maid – Lasha.
She was still wearing a maid outfit, with long black hair reaching down to her waist and bearing a pair of ruby like eyes. She stood before him on the street as if she had been waiting for Shien.
That scene made Shien blank out for a moment.
But Shien came back to himself right away.
"Why are you here?"
Shien move forward unconsciously and asked, still unable to disguise his surprise.
In response, Leisha looked up straight at him.
"I've always been here."
Lasha said something like that.
"Always?"
Shien was stunned once again.
"Indeed." Lasha was completely calm, "When you left Lamdrion, milady and myself followed you to the Capital. It's just that we didn't show ourselves and you didn't discover us, that's all."
Shien was speechless at that statement.
So that pair of twins like beauties were actually nearby the whole time then?
"You guys were following me?"
Shien frowned. His expression as he looked at Lasha turned unkind.
Lasha withstood Shien's gaze without denying it. She just looked up at him and spoke the following.
"Milady had disappeared after last night."
Lasha spoke out such news.
"You're saying then that Leisha's gone missing?"
Shien couldn't help but be surprised at that unexpected bit of information.
Lasha nodded.
"Milady has previously given me directions. If something were to happen to her, then I should seek you out." Lasha spoke in a completely placid tone of voice, "Therefore, I came here to await your return."
Those words just made Shien's frown deepen.
To put it in another way then.
Leisha had not just gone missing, she also knew that she was doing something risky. Thus, she left contingencies behind to for Lasha to take.
"Just what happened?"
Shien fell into thought.
Lasha was unhurried. She simply stood there quietly and waited for Shien's response.
Shien looked at that beautiful maid and sighed.
"Anyways, come back with me for now."
Shien so decided.
"Yes."
