The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 248 - Walk With You In The Dark

''Is he going to propose to me?'' Just the thought of it made her heart melt, and her stomach filled with butterflies. Biting her bottom lip, Leena read the note again and again.[Come and find me at the place where we had lunch in the afternoon]

Leena was sheepishly smiling as she stepped out of the room but suddenly halted her footsteps when she remembered something important. ''You crazy girl! Are you going to go and meet him wearing this nightdress? Go and get ready fast.''

Leena has taken very little time to get ready since she doesn't want Devin to wait. She quickly grabbed a blue knee-length dress that Devin brought for her when he went to Boston on a business trip last week.

Within half an hour, she dolled herself up and peeked at the mirror for one last time. ''I look so cute.'' She squealed and applied red lipstick to look super hot and sexy in front of him. Pleased with her appearance, she picked her mobile and left the room. Outside, a car was waiting by the pavement. The chauffeur opened the car and closed it when Leena settled comfortably. To the outside, she was looking normal, but only she knew the nervousness she was going through.

As the car pulled into the grand restaurant entrance, not a single soul came into her eyesight. ''Did he buy this whole place?'' She let out a soft gasp shaking her head. It wouldn't be a surprise considering his wealth. Leena exited the car and entered the restaurant but again, to her surprise, it was pitch dark without a single soul wandering.

''Devin?'' Leena called him, getting scared of the darkness. For Leena, darkness meant ghosts, and ghosts meant darkness. When she didnot get any response from him, she swallowed hard. She turned on her heels, ready to flee when a soft voice entered into her ears. ''Leena, sweetheart, did you get scared?"

''Of course, idiot. What if those bony creatures had gobbled me up?'' Leena yelled at him as she looked around, but she couldn't see the man in question to her fright.

''Isn't Lava ghost there to protect you?'' He chuckled softly at her 'politeness.' Amused by her frantic search to find him, Devin decided not to torture her. ''Here..Look to your right.''

She sharply turned to her right, but again it was pitch dark. ''Where are you? I can't see anything here. Are you speaking to me through a microphone?''

''Yes, sweetheart.'' He said with a smile. ''Close your eyes.''

''I_I am scared_"

''Just close your eyes. Every breath you take, I will be there with you. I promise.'' His soft voice was mellow to her ears.

Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes; her racing heart started to ease as the soft song, 'every breath you take,' began to play in the background. Just like he said, every breath she took, every smile she feigned, she felt his warmth was holding on to her.

Slowly, the music came to a stop, but her smile didnot fade away. ''Are you still scared?'' His voice entered into her ears again.

''N_o.'' She sniffled, shaking her head. She knew why he had done this. To replace her fear with his warmth.

''No ghosts..No devils from now... When you get scared of darkness, you have to remember me. I will walk with you in the dark. I would be your light if nights were to never end.'' In a tender voice, he said.

''Are you proposing without showing up?" She shut her lips tightly to stop her rushing emotions. Why is he so sweet. ''Can I see you?"

''Not yet, darling. Until you find me, I am not going to show up. Do you remember the day you dragged me to a cartoon movie? Wasn't that a horrible choice to bring a grown-up man to a children's cartoon movie? Some even looked at me with a mock. But I endured the embarrassment. Now, my day has come. I am taking my revenge and torture you by playing hide and seek today.''

''Horrible choice? You were praising at the choice of my selection, idiot.'' Leena humphed. ''Wait until I find you. You are dead meat in my hands today.''

''I will be waiting for you then.'' His voice cut off, and the room lit up brightly. Leena looked around, and except for a basket on the table, the brightly lit room was full-on empty. She went towards it and unwrapped it. To her delight, it was not some chocolates. There were all sorts of her favorite fruits, especially her yum yum bananas. ''I wish that idiot was here. I am missing him already.'' Leena pouted, peeling the banana happily to fill her stomach.

After eating, following the note she found in the basket, she started to the shopping area. As she went upstairs, a cute little girl appeared in front of her, handed her a package, and kissed her on the cheek before leaving.

Leena peeled off the note attached to it. [It's because you like my choice of dress, I am gifting you a dress again.]

''Show off..'' She smiled, unwrapping the package. A stunning rayon and crape knee-length dress came into her sight. ''He sure knows my taste.''

Wearing the dress, Leena followed to the next destination, and she got a pair of ear pendants that exactly harmonized with her dress. The next stop, she guessed he would either present a pendant or bracelet but little did she know; Leena's torture has just started now.

The chauffeur dropped at the next stop, and it was a barren field where a group of men stopped in front of her. Bowing their head, they greeted and handed her a metal detector. ''Why do I need it?'' She asked, examining the stick.

''To find the clue, madam.'' One of the men said.

''Oh! I love finding clues.'' Leena happily grabbed the metal detector and went around the field to find the buried treasure. It was not an easy task, and to her annoyance, these annoying men just stood there watching her without aiding any help. Finally, the detector squealed, going wild at a particular place. ''I got it. I got it.''

''Please dig for the treasure, madam.'' A man came forward, handing her a shovel.

''I think you have mistaken. It must be your duty to dig the ground, right?'' She asked calmly. What did they think of me? Can't they see I have dolled up like a princess? Devin will kill them if he gets to know that these annoying guards made his sweetheart work on the fields. If it were any other day, Leena wouldn't have minded dirtying her hands, but not today.

"No, madam. You are supposed to dig it by yourself.'' They wanted to help her, but at the same time, they are scared of their jobs. The men politely bowed and said, ''Mr. Wang has instructed us not to help you.''

Handing her a shovel, the man walked out and stood at a distance. Holding the shovel and looking at her dress, Leena felt her world crumbled into pieces. ''Damn it, Devin. Did you plan and purposefully dolled me up for this purpose? I am going to kill you today.?'' Leena looked around to see if any photographer was capturing her pictures. Although she could see none in her sight, Leena was sure Devin would have arranged someone secretly to capture her miserable state. ''He is a devil.''

Letting out a cry, Leena began digging the area all alone, and finally, she found a wooden treasure chest box. She remembered it. ''It was the same gift Devin and I got for the treasure hunt game. Where did he find them? I have kept it safely.'' As Leena opened the box, to her surprise, she found only a single ring. She doesn't need to guess where the other ring is. Letting out a chuckle, she pulled the note put on the box. [You remember how you got those rings? You took the credit to yourself when I was the one who has solved the full puzzle. I can't believe I am married to that shameless girl. I still feel emotional when I recall back to that day. Although we were not together, the date has forever been imprinted in my memory. It was the first time I spent the whole day with you. Now, I can't hold anymore. My legs are going numb waiting for you. Come fast and find me, sweetheart.]

''He is such a cutie pie.'' Without wasting a second, Leena rushed and approached the car. Giving the chauffeur the address, she stepped into the car. All the while, her thoughts are in haywire until the car reached the destination. Leena dashed towards the place, holding the treasure chest box tightly. She has been dying to see him for the past one hour. The moment she stepped into the field, the lights lit up one by one with each step she took froward.
