The Extreme Alchemist of the Mighty Cauldron
Chapter 1549: 1647: The Fate of the Reviving Dead Wood BodyChapter 1549: Chapter 1647: The Fate of the Reviving Dead Wood Body
Seven Seas, Three Sects.
In a special sea region situated within the cracks of the Three Sects’ influences lies an extremely isolated island.
The island is not large in scope, and it is particularly barren atop it, devoid of any trace of life, not even a wild beast in sight.
Yet today, this secluded island has gathered quite a number of people, all of whom are weighty figures from within the Three Sects.
These experts of the Three Sects stood in distinctly separate groups surrounding an ancient tree that had utterly withered.
Referred to as an ancient tree, in reality, only the roots remained, bereft of any signs of life or fluctuations in aura, deathly stagnant and completely lifeless.
Nevertheless, the people of the Three Sects in attendance viewed these roots with considerable wariness, not daring to approach too closely.
“According to the ancient texts, this ancient magic tree possesses incredible vitality, yet looking at it now, I’m afraid it’s no longer possible to awaken it,” an old Taoist said, shaking his head while squinting and glancing at the people from the Buddhist and Scholarly Sects.
“Amitabha, this is an ominous object; it is best disposed of sooner rather than later,” said the Buddha Head with a dignified countenance, dressed in golden cassock, and with palms pressed together.
Upon the Buddha Head’s remarks, quite a few among the Three Sects nodded in agreement, yet there were others who did not share that view.
If it were before the outbreak of the grand battle, the words of the Buddha Head would have certainly been heeded by most within the Three Sects, for, at that time, the Buddha Head held high prestige, with many from both the Scholarly and Taoist Sects in concurrence.
But now, with the grand battle’s end and the Three Sects’ retreat, the Buddha Head had thus encountered censure and criticism.
Though the Buddha Head remained as such, his prestige within the Three Sects had naturally suffered a great decline.
“That is where you err, for even though the Demon Tree is dead, it also possesses the capacity for Reviving Dead Wood,” said a woman from the Scholarly Sect in a light and breezy tone.
As these words fell, the countenances of everyone from the Taoist Sect changed drastically, especially the first speaking old Taoist, whose eyes revealed unmistakable murderous intent and anger.
The Buddha Head too glanced at the old Taoist but remained silent; as for what thoughts he held inside, likely, no one could fully discern.
“Situ Yue, what are you implying?” The old Taoist fixed his gaze on the Scholarly Sect woman—none other than Situ Yue—with a very unpleasant tone in his voice.
Situ Yue smiled: “In this world, the person who can resurrect this Demon Tree to life indeed exists within your Taoist Sect.”
“That’s right, how did we not think of it.”
“Indeed, as long as we have that person, it is indeed possible to awaken this Demon Tree anew.”
“It seems that in the great scheme of things, everything is preordained.”
…
Many came to a sudden realization, apparently understanding Situ Yue’s meaning. For a moment, people from both the Buddhist and Scholarly Sects turned their gazes toward the Taoist Sect.
The old Taoist, so infuriated his beard trembled, wore an extremely unsightly expression. Not just him, but others from the Taoist Sect also bore somber looks.
“Jade Qincheng from the Taoist Sect possesses the rare Reviving Dead Wood Body; with her special physique, she can indeed turn this Demon Tree from deadwood to spring life, allowing it to awaken once again,” Situ Yue stated, unruffled.
“You dare!” The old Taoist roared angrily, his aura surging forth like an enraged lion.
“Taoist Yu, Jade Qincheng may be your granddaughter, but she is also part of our Three Sects. It is only proper for her to spare no effort in contributing everything to the Three Sects,” Situ Yue said coldly.
Taoist Yu stared at Situ Yue with dead-set eyes: “Whoever dares to entertain thoughts about my granddaughter must step over my dead body first.”
“Amitabha, Taoist Yu, it is not for you to decide,” uttered the Buddha Head indifferently, his voice carrying an oppressive tone.
Taoist Yu laughed coldly: “What a Buddha Head. Has the Buddhist Sect’s compassion been thrown away to the insides of a dog? Doesn’t your Buddhist Sect have the method of liberating and guiding the transcendence of souls? Gathering the power of your monks and Buddhas’ efforts, can’t you awaken the Demon Tree?”
The Buddha Head shook his head: “The Buddhist Sect’s method of liberating and guiding the transcendence of souls cannot be applied to this Demon Tree. It would even backfire, commanding the Demon Tree into utter destruction.”
“Taoist Yu, why don’t you let your granddaughter give it a try?”
“For the grand scheme of the three sects, what’s the harm in sacrificing one person?”
“As long as the Demon Tree awakens, your granddaughter will be a great hero of our three sects.”
····
More and more people came to persuade Taoist Yu, even some from the Taoist Sects were wavering, casting furtive glances at him.
Taoist Yu’s face remained sullen, flatly refusing to let his granddaughter, Jade Qincheng, awaken the Demon Tree.
“Grandfather.” At this moment, two figures fluttered towards them, one of which was Jade Qincheng.
The most outstanding Alchemy Tao talent from the Pill Pulsar of the Taoist Sect, who had dealt a heavy blow to the Pill Alliance with her astonishing alchemy skills before the outbreak of the two lands’ great war. Had it not been for Fang Lin rushing over despite his injuries, the Pill Alliance would have faced utter disgrace in that alchemy competition, losing face completely.
Jade Qincheng’s face no longer bore the intentionally preserved scars from the past. She had an epiphany during her alchemy competition with Fang Lin; she had left the scars not because she didn’t care about them, but because she cared too much.
Now, she was much stronger than she had been seven years ago. Both her martial arts prowess and her alchemy cultivation had improved significantly, and her state of mind had ascended to a higher level.
As an alchemy prodigy like her, it was expected that she would become one of the finest Pill Refiners of the era without any unforeseen events.
However, the person who came with Jade Qincheng made Taoist Yu’s face turn to one of shock.
Arrayed in flowing white robes, with a solemn and cold expression, brandishing a Longsword, it was one of the two Masters of Chongyun Temple.
“Taoist Yu, your granddaughter is willing to sacrifice for the Taoist Sect, for the sake of the three sects. Will you still stop her?” The White-clothed Leader spoke up, his voice filled with indifference.
Jade Qincheng smiled, but her smile was laced with bitterness.
She walked up to her grandfather, looking at Taoist Yu’s weathered and defeated expression, and said: “It’s fine, after all, I am a person of the Taoist Sect, how could I shrink back at a time like this?”
Taoist Yu clenched his fists tightly and pulled Jade Qincheng towards him, suddenly turning to the White-clothed Leader above: “What if I disagree?”
The White-clothed Leader responded indifferently: “You do not have the luxury of choice.”
Taoist Yu laughed bitterly, spewing out a mouthful of fresh blood, turning to look at his granddaughter once more.
Jade Qincheng was still smiling, yet tears had begun to fall.
Being of the Reviving Dead Wood Body, she was an excellent candidate for medicinal alchemy, her touch could breathe life into the herbs she handled.
The only way to awaken this desolate ancient magic tree was to use the power of Jade Qincheng’s Reviving Dead Wood Body.
Yet, the Reviving Dead Wood Body had its limits, and if the ancient magic tree were to be revived, it would inevitably drain all of Jade Qincheng’s vitality.
In other words, the awakening of the ancient magic tree necessitated the sacrifice of Jade Qincheng’s life.
No one felt any sympathy for Jade Qincheng, only her grandfather, Taoist Yu, wanted to fight fiercely for a glimmer of hope for his granddaughter.
“Taoist Yu, this master advises you, if you do not wish the lives of everyone from the Jade Lotus Sect to be jeopardized, don’t interfere with the grand scheme of our three sects,” the White-clothed Leader once again spoke out.
Taoist Yu knew the situation was hopeless, and sank to the ground, as if he had aged a decade in an instant.
Jade Qincheng walked silently in front of the Demon Tree, her expression distant.
Is this the destiny of the Reviving Dead Wood Body?
Jade Qincheng couldn’t help but think of another person in the world with a Reviving Dead Wood Body. Is he doing well right now?
