The Extreme Alchemist of the Mighty Cauldron
Chapter 1637: 1734: The Giant Pill FurnaceChapter 1637: Chapter 1734: The Giant Pill Furnace
Western Plateau, Ten Thousand Mountains.
A mysterious land far removed from the Nine Countries, these mountains conceal many ancient mysteries.
In terms of antiquity, the Ten Thousand Mountains are even older than the Nine Countries and Seven Seas. In the era of primordial wilderness, they were already in existence. Fragments of tattered bones even hint that the origin of all living beings may trace back to these Ten Thousand Mountains.
An ancient and unverifiable legend speaks of an Eternal Divine Mountain deep within the remote western end of the Ten Thousand Mountains. It is said that all creatures across heaven and earth emerged from atop this mountain.
As for the actual existence of this Divine Mountain, or the truth of the origin legend—it remains unknown through the ages.
Even the name of this Divine Mountain might have been long lost within the boundless river of time.
Martial Lord Hou Yi once ventured into the Ten Thousand Mountains armed with the Dragon Bones Bow, searching for the Eternal Divine Mountain. Whether he ever found the mountain remains a mystery.
Not long after Hou Yi returned from his search for the Divine Mountain, the ancient cataclysm descended, leaving all creatures in despair and life on the brink of extinction. Whether this disaster had any connection to the Divine Mountain has always been an unresolved enigma.
The Sealing Sword Pavilion hides itself within the Ten Thousand Mountains, its whereabouts truly secretive. No wonder the pavilion has vanished entirely for so many years without a trace.
Fang Lin was brought into the Ten Thousand Mountains by the Eight Swordsmen, only to be imprisoned in an ancient cave and kept from seeing the true location of the Sealing Sword Pavilion.
Within the ancient cave, Fang Lin was not alone—the Pill Alliance’s Xu Yanbing had also been confined alongside him.
Occasionally, distant and muffled roars of Demon Beasts echoed through the cave, a clear indication that many creatures inhabited the surrounding area.
Standing at the mouth of the cave, Fang Lin found himself unable to step out. Before him stood a gentle luminescent barrier, evidently the manifestation of an array.
“Just one array, and it’s foolproof?” Fang Lin muttered to himself, attempting to unravel the defensive formation.
After struggling for quite some time, Fang Lin ultimately gave up. Unless he summoned his True Dragon avatar to forcefully shatter the array, it was clear that brute force alone would not suffice.
Fang Lin was in no hurry; he was curious about the Sealing Sword Pavilion’s intentions and how far their plans would progress. If things turned critical, Fang Lin would simply use his trump card and escape.
Xu Yanbing had yet to awaken, and Fang Lin paid no heed to him. His thoughts were instead drawn to the words Huang Hanqing spoke along the journey.
The Transcendental Elixir?
Fang Lin naturally understood the meaning of those four words. Transcendence referred to breaking through the bounds of life and death, achieving eternal existence beyond the cycles of reincarnation.
Such was transcendence.
The Transcendental Elixir, if one were to speak of it truly, could only refer to the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill Fang Lin attempted to refine years ago.
Yet Fang Lin fell just one step short of success, his efforts thwarted by a sudden attack that led to the pill’s failure.
Now that the Sealing Sword Pavilion had brought Fang Lin, Xu Yanbing, and Huang Hanqing together—with potentially more alchemists gathered—it seemed likely their goal was to refine the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill.
The more Fang Lin thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, but he also found it utterly absurd. Refining the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill was far from simple.
Even with Fang Lin’s caliber as a Pill Sovereign, after exhausting his heart and soul, he still failed in the final moments. For contemporary alchemists who had yet to reach even the Eight Cauldron or Nine Cauldron level, no matter how talented they might be, successfully crafting the pill was impossible.
In fact, Fang Lin doubted whether the Sealing Sword Pavilion even understood what the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill truly was. Apart from Fang Lin himself, the pill’s formula was known only to the former master of the Pill Saint Palace.
To Fang Lin, the Pavilion’s efforts to create the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill resembled a group of children shouting rebelliously about overthrowing the heavens.
Utterly laughable.
If the Sealing Sword Pavilion’s people realized they had captured the very Pill Sovereign who once came closest to crafting the Life and Death Reincarnation Pill, things might grow far more amusing.
“Where is this place?” Xu Yanbing finally awoke, sitting up with a bewildered expression as he glanced around.
Fang Lin spared him a glance without responding.
“Are you Master Fang?” Xu Yanbing grew even more surprised when he saw Fang Lin also confined here.
“This is the Western Plateau. We’ve both been caught by the Sealing Sword Pavilion,” Fang Lin answered casually.
Xu Yanbing was still trying to process his circumstances. His memory stopped at his alchemy contest with Long Zhixin; everything afterward was a blank.
“Now that you’re awake, you two will follow me.” Another figure appeared outside the cave, her voice cold and her countenance colder.
It was a woman—not particularly beautiful, but with a striking figure. She wore a long black robe that accentuated her curves, especially her rare and enviable fullness at the chest, which inevitably drew attention.
Fang Lin immediately recognized her voice. She was the only one among the Eight Swordsmen who had spoken, the very one who abducted him.
The woman waved her hand, dispersing the luminescent barrier outside the cave. Fang Lin stepped out without hesitation, while Xu Yanbing remained cautious and stayed in place.
The woman clearly had no patience for delays, grabbing Xu Yanbing outright and lifting him by force.
Xu Yanbing’s face turned red with embarrassment. Being carried by a woman was humiliating enough, but having Fang Lin witness it made the situation far worse.
“Follow me,” the woman commanded coldly, casting a glance at Fang Lin.
Fang Lin smiled and nodded, throwing an amused and empathetic look toward Xu Yanbing.
Xu Yanbing, still dangling in indignity, followed behind Fang Lin and the woman. After walking for an hour, they arrived at a deep valley.
Fang Lin witnessed an awe-inspiring sight—a Pill Furnace as massive as a mountain stood in the heart of the valley. Beneath the furnace raged a blazing inferno whose flames roared skyward, making the entire valley stiflingly hot.
A hundred figures or so populated the area, some seated, others standing. All were alchemists—elderly with snowy hair, middle-aged, and even some young faces.
Huang Hanqing was present as well, standing atop the enormous Pill Furnace, peering solemnly into its depths.
Fang Lin and Xu Yanbing’s arrival did little to draw the attention of the gathered alchemists; their gazes remained fixed upon the giant furnace.
Fang Lin raised his head to observe. Within the furnace, multi-colored radiant glows surged—not the Pill Formation Rainbow Light, but the reflections of rare treasures being refined.
Clearly, this vast furnace contained numerous precious materials.
Leaping down from the furnace, Huang Hanqing landed before the trio, his expression grim and humorless.
“This will be your new place. These others, like you, are alchemists gathered here from various corners,” Huang Hanqing explained.
