Rex kept going.
Despite knocking a few teeth and breaking a bone or two, he didn’t stop.
Anyone or anything that he turned into a Werewolf would have their last, burning emotion heightened to a higher degree. In this case, all Voidal Knights were angry—and hateful for being hurt and captured by the heirs.
All of them probably thought Rex was the culprit behind the heirs, and thus, directed their anger at him.
Rex knew one of them would certainly retaliate first, and he needed to handle it well.
It was the most important part to make sure this went smoothly.
Show weakness and the others would attack too, but if he showed strength, they would fall in line.
Like a dog being trained by the whip.
Not to mention, there was also the influence of the Berserker Rune that reduced their intelligence to the primal level. So Rex was already expecting this, and was ready to react with the appropriate move. In front of the onlookers, he beat Four senselessly without mercy.
Four was the unfortunate one to be made an example for the other Voidal Knights.
Most were confused at this sight.
He was the one who turned them, but he was now doing this to one of them.
But seeing the reaction from the other Voidal Knights, the onlookers understood what he was doing.
For a full minute, Rex kept swinging until Four’s face was a mess.
Out of instinct, Four tried to struggle, but Rex was too strong—he couldn’t break free.
Four was helpless under Rex.
Then, Rex turned to look at the other Voidal Knights with blood smeared across his face.
“Anyone else?” Rex rasped, his voice low and threatening. Now, Four was already barely breathing, in a critical condition. The fear he struck into the Voidal Knights took hold of the primal, instinctive level. Even their dull minds understood the threat. He had reached that ancient part of them that clung to survival.
“You will all obey or else…” Rex lifted Four by the head, “You’ll end up like him. Do you understand?”
Despite not being able to talk, all of them understood Rex.
Just like that, Rex was able to assert himself as the Alpha.
“Huh, that was easier than I thought,” Rex shrugged his shoulders and climbed down from Four. “Well, it’s not perfect domination. They now knew who was the Alpha, but the moment they saw weakness in me, they’d rebel. For this situation, however, it should be enough.”
Rex walked back to the others while cleaning his bloodied fists with a cloth he took from the Inventory.
Then, he turned to Viora with a wry smile, “Priestess Viora, can you heal him?”
“You should’ve held back.” Viora shook her head helplessly, but she healed Four anyway.
Soon enough, Crimoria came back with the scouts.
She instantly went to Rex and reported her findings, “I found the scouts’ information was precise. Nothing new during the second inspection. For the towers, I already marked their radius, and as the scouts said, the beam is extremely fast and strong enough to kill even me.”
As expected, the first hurdle would be the three towers.
But Rex wasn’t worried, he would be dealing with those towers himself.
“And for the singing, I could hear it too, but it didn’t seem to have any influence on us.” She added.
Rex nodded his head and turned towards the Forsaken Tower in the distance.
However, before he departed, he turned to look over his shoulders—and found a lot of Mahkam Ruin’s people, along with Grant, were seeing them depart. Despite their hopelessness, there are still some who clung to hope for a better future.
Of course, there were some who shot pitying gazes at them, fully expecting them to die.
In that moment, Rex’s gaze met with Grant’s.
Dhamar… The previous leader must be a dear friend of his.
Even though he left earlier, he caught Grant muttering the name Dhamar.
In that moment, Rex was unwillingly reminded of Edward.
Will I also end up like him if Edward… Edward really died?
Rex’s expression turned grim—Grant was the living proof of what might happen if Edward really died, and that gave him more fuel to keep going. Even though he wanted to believe that he wouldn’t be like Grant, hopeless, there was still a chance.
And he didn’t want to see what would happen, so no matter what, he had to keep going.
He has to keep getting stronger and finally be strong enough to save Edward from Chaos’ grip.
Despite his betrayal, Rex still considered Edward a dear friend.
So he has to become stronger, Edward has to survive, or else everything will go wrong.
Clenching his jaw, Rex faced ahead and cracked his neck.
He, along with the crucial people, was on horseback—they would be the ones to lead the charge.
Once he was ready, Rex raised his hand, signaling the others to stand by. Then, with a sharp downward gesture, he burst out of the protective bubble. A few hundred-strong army thundered after him, while the transformed Voidal Knights followed from the rear.
Almost on cue, the Flare Crystal ignited once more, warding off the Black Rift and clearing the way.
It took only a moment for them to reach the Forsaken Tower’s vicinity.
“One, be our sentry. Hover above the tower and update me whenever something happens,” Rex waved his hand, sending One up to the sky. Since they were now linked together, One could at least inform or warn Rex if something major happened.
Not so much as telepathy, that would require One to be an Inner Pack Member.
But One could at least warn Rex through their shared feelings.
Then, Rex turned to look at the other Voidal Knights, particularly Six to Ten. “Five of you surround the side of the tower facing the bubble, and kill anything that comes your way. Also, make sure not to get within the range of the protective towers.”
Roar!
Heeding the Alpha’s words, five Voidal Knights separated and went to their assigned station.
Rex was accustomed to commanding a lot of people, and that shows.
Soon, he and the army could finally see the three protective towers up close.
All three towers were levitating, around three to four-story high—and had a beaming blue gem above them, which should be the thing that would fire the beam. On top of that, the three towers were stationed around the main tower in a triangle formation.
Naturally, there were no blind spots—there were no cracks in which someone could cheat.
No gap for anyone to bypass the three towers’ protection.
“Shouldn’t we attack during the day?” Crimoria asked. “We can avoid the towers that way!”
Considering how deadly these three towers were, she didn’t understand why they needed to attack now.
It would’ve been better for them to postpone their attack until morning came.
Viora was the one to answer, “I heard from the people, the door to reach the upper floors—was closed during the day. It was another reason why their warriors trained in the tower during the day, so we have no choice but to attack during the night to enter the upper floors.”
“Just what is this tower, really?” Crimoria complained. “It has too many mechanisms!”
“Don’t fret about it,” Rex assured. “Besides, I’m stronger during the night.”
That was also a viable reason as to why they were attacking right now, when the sun is down.
Rex came to an abrupt halt when he saw a knife stabbing the ground.
It was Crimoria’s mark for the range of the tower.
Nodding his head, Rex climbed down the robust azure horse and landed on his feet. He prepared himself while inspecting the entrance ahead. One way in and one way out. There are windows. One could check what lies in the upper floors, but I don’t think he can.
Placing both hands on his hips, Rex could see a faint distortion around the main tower.
An invisible barrier of some sort.
“How are you going to get us through this?” Crimoria stood beside him and asked.
Not only would Rex need to handle the tower, but there were also the Pale Howlers that would come out.
“I’m going to deactivate the tower,” Rex answered as he bent down to take a rock.
He then threw the rock across the mark.
Swish!
In an instant, countless invisible strands of intricate blue light flared into view, weaving a radiant web that locked onto the rock. Then, as if guided by perfect harmony, the gem atop the tower pulsed with a massive amount of energy before unleashing a lightning-fast beam that struck the target with pinpoint accuracy.
Nothing of the rock remains—it was turned to dust as soon as it was struck.
Viora frowned when she saw this.
“It’s so fast and certainly has the power to vaporize Master Immortal Spirits,” She thought aloud. The display of the protective tower’s power made him worry for Rex’s safety—it might be too much. “We should re-think this.”
“Rex’s instincts and reaction time are faster. This should be nothing for him.” Linthia commented.
She had seen Rex avoid faster than lightning attacks even from his blind spot countless times.
A lightning-fast beam shouldn’t be a problem.
Naturally, Viora was still doubtful, but she knew that Linthia wasn’t baseless.
“It’s more worrying whether he could deactivate the tower or not rather than this.” Linthia continued.
But then again, Rex created Dargena City overnight.
He even constructed numerous complex structures, such as the Vortex Pit of Elements or even the Force Academy. Figuring out the protective tower and deactivating it should also be within his capabilities. Rex was that well-rounded.
“Are you certain?” Crimoria asked.
Rex nodded and pushed her back, “Step away, I’ll start right now.”
Before stepping into the range, Rex, with a heavy heart, summoned the Mask of the Banished Eclipse, apologizing to Nivellen inside—as he needed to rely on her strength to go through this. As he observed the rock earlier, the beam was fast, but what was worrying is that it struck where the rock would be.
It predicted where the target would be instead of striking where the target was.
Moreover, there was a trace of Law in it. But I don’t think my Law of Foresight is weaker.
Once he was ready, Rex lowered his stance in preparation to dash.
Five steps. I only need five steps to reach the entrance.
Swoosh!
Rex finally made his move with a decisive dash.
He entered the range and immediately got latched onto by the strings of light.
<Warning: the user is being targeted by the guardian tower!>
As soon as the notification appeared, Rex gazed up to the tower and saw the gem above it fire an azure beam. It looked like a flash of light in his eyes, and within moments, the beam already reached him—It already reached his eyes.
But the moment the beam was about to hit, Rex tilted his head and dodged the beam.
“He dodged it!”
One of the soldiers exclaimed in shock.
He thought that Rex overestimated himself, but he didn’t.
Swish!
Surprisingly, the beam vanished, completely absorbed by the distortion that marked the guardian tower’s area of influence. Rex managed a second step forward, but just as he began his third, a portal burst open at the edge of the distortion behind him, crackling with gathering energy.
It happened so fast.
From the appearance of the portal to the complete gathering of energy, it only took a fraction of a second.
Crimoria couldn’t warn Rex in time as another beam was fired, now from Rex’s blind spot.
At the same time, the tower wall was suddenly opened, and in it were the Pale Howlers.
Rex managed to dodge the beam at the last second again with a simple twist of his torso—his senses were able to warn him in time to react while the Mask of Banished Eclipse helped him predict where the next attack would come from.
Then, the Pale Howlers howled and charged at him with killing intent.
But Rex immediately flared his Alpha aura, tapping into his Werewolf bloodline and glared at them.
His bright crimson eyes stunned all of the Pale Howlers as he made the fourth step.
In a seemingly desperate attempt, the tower fired five beams that bounced—and pinched him from all sides. Rex leaped in time and summoned the Aegis of Moon Sentinel, utilizing its Minor Law of Misdirection, and avoided the last beam.
In a seemingly desperate move, the tower fired five beams that ricocheted through the air, converging on Rex from all directions. He leapt just in time—while summoning the Aegis of the Moon Sentinel, utilizing its Minor Law of Misdirection to divert the final beam, slipping through untouched.
Until finally, he gracefully landed at the entrance.
He reached the entrance without as much as a sweat.
