In the open-source records, it is noted that severely infected patients, infected individuals, and primary infectees all share a common characteristic—[Weak Point]. This refers to the incomplete fusion of the pathogen that invades both their physical and mental states. By destroying the pathogen's core, they can be killed.
This fact is universally acknowledged and is clearly taught in pathology classes, with no exceptions.
Even someone like Mr. Lee, who has a gentlemanly demeanor and suffers from the rare disease "Moon Transformation Disease," cannot escape this weakness. He can only hide it more deeply.
Currently, Jin is exhibiting strength that surpasses her level, reaching the limits of human capability. She even resorts to rarely-used strategic tactics. Sacrificing her boar-headed form and her entire left arm, she delivers a fatal blow to the village chief.
The village chief's weak point—[Steel Heart]—is cracked from the explosion of a crimson lotus within him. It now only requires a light touch to shatter completely.
The village chief is rendered immobile, his breathing faint.
Even Jin herself hadn’t expected this outcome. Her original intent was to directly kill the village chief with the explosion. Against such a formidable enemy, hesitation could mean her own death.
To her surprise, the village chief's resilience was extraordinary. Using this life-and-death opportunity, she decides to perform a "weaponization modification" on the dying chief.
Weapons created in this way are naturally more potent due to their retained vitality.
When Yi Chen witnesses this scene, he instinctively slows his steps, refraining from interrupting Jin's "post-battle cleanup." Anyone observing the scene would conclude that the fight is over. However,
the sudden appearance of a new umbilical cord changes the situation instantly.
Little Grape shudders and immediately warns,
"What's that strange thing? It doesn’t seem to belong to the village chief! William, tell your friend to be careful—it feels entirely different!"
Yi Chen shouts a warning and rushes toward Jin.
Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Jin freezes in place. The mutated village chief engulfs her in a grotesque fleshy sac, and her presence disappears entirely.
"Jin!"
Yi Chen halts abruptly, three meters away.
His neurotransmitters surge, rapidly transmitting signals. The flood of emotion-related neurochemicals triggers strange black spots to seep from the depths of his cerebellar cortex, gradually spreading across his brain.
Although his time with Jin has been short and her personality is peculiar—often unlikable—Yi Chen still accepts her as a flawed companion. Perhaps it is because he, too, harbors his own "flaws." 𐍂ἈƝŐBÊs̈
Yi Chen’s pupils dim, and specks of black material emerge within his lenses, threatening to dye his entire eyeballs black.
Crack!
Yi Chen tilts his head 90 degrees, a crisp neck sound echoing as he snaps it back into place, giving the impression of a broken neck.
His entire body spasms—joints, including his fingers, twitch unnaturally.
The sight is strange, even unsettlingly eerie.
Yet the "hanged" village chief ignores Yi Chen's peculiar state. Gliding across the ground on his toes, he approaches with a sinister, floating gait.
The village chief plans to use his newfound power to capture Yi Chen, intending to showcase his strength. If successful, he might even receive additional blessings, perhaps becoming a core member of the church.
As the village chief closes in,
Buzz! A shadow flashes past.
The chief instinctively retreats, unable to perceive what just happened.
Slash!
Yi Chen, moving faster than the eye can follow, slices through the newly grown flesh on the chief’s body. Only a thin layer of skin holds it together, nearly severing him in two.
Death!
At that moment, the village chief, Kaordi, feels an overwhelming sense of death, stronger than the vitality he had just gained. Terrified, he retreats, abandoning all will to fight.
As Yi Chen prepares to strike again, Little Grape inside him suddenly senses something.
It’s not a change in Yi Chen but a "presence" rapidly approaching from behind—a sensation identical to the one that had been observing them from the forest.
An unknown third party has entered the scene!
Little Grape considers issuing a warning but, after quickly assessing the situation, burrows into Yi Chen's body, shrinking into a black, finger-sized flesh ball. It adheres to the wall of his flesh and enters a "dormant state", erasing its presence.
Meanwhile,
as Yi Chen takes a step toward the direction the village chief fled…
Slash!
An arm clad in a black priest's robe pierced through from the back and emerged through the left chest... In its palm was a vibrant, beating heart wrapped in green roots.
The arm retracted, pulling the heart out along with it.
Thud!
Yi Chen's vision went black as he collapsed to the ground, blood pouring endlessly from the wound in his chest.
The one who had appeared was none other than the bishop’s assistant, Theodore. His early intervention came because the result had already been determined.
Jin’s performance was simply too exceptional.
Whether it was his absolute control over her body, her innate combat talent, or her state of having reached "the pinnacle of human limits," it was enough to designate Jin as the ultimate sacrificial offering for the birth ritual. Since the village chief had already successfully secured the target, there was no need for further testing.
As for Yi Chen...
Theodore examined the heart in his hand, its surface etched with plant-like patterns, and looked upon it with disdain.
"A body contaminated with plant impurities… Such a thing would only defile the birth ritual. However, since his body is intertwined with plant matter, its high nutrient content will aid in the accelerated construction of our sacred land.
Take his body for proper processing and use it for the expansion of the high walls."
“Yes…” the village chief nodded in response.
The village chief, suspended mid-air, slowly descended to the ground, the umbilical cord retracting into his body.
Returning to his original form, the village chief appeared extremely frail, even wobbling as he walked. However, the injuries on his body had been filled and healed by the "youthful" flesh. Even the gaps in his steel heart were covered with newly grown tissue... all powered by the external force of the umbilical cord.
With a forceful tug, swish! the chief tore off a swollen pouch from his right shoulder, handing it over to Theodore.
Afterward, the village chief hoisted Yi Chen, whose chest had been pierced, grabbed his axe and suitcase, and headed toward the village’s [Meat Factory].
...
In the silent, wave-less black ocean,
a young man drifted on the surface without any vessel.
The most fundamental “thoughts” could not form in this sea, rendering all brain functions useless. He could only rely on instinct, responding to a distant call.
Occasionally, various ships passed by him:
Some tossed out ropes,
Some cast fishing nets,
Others threw floating logs.
Yet, the young man instinctively resisted boarding any of them and continued to drift alone,
until a dilapidated wooden boat approached.
A decayed, skeletal hand reached out to him.
Only then did the young man grab the hand. Upon climbing aboard, he saw that the rotten "rescuer" was none other than himself—or perhaps it had always been just him. He had merely climbed aboard his own black wooden boat.
Buzz!
A lighthouse beam immediately fell upon the boat, and under its light, the young man’s flesh began to evaporate rapidly.
In the end, only a skeletal frame and a brain, stained black by seawater, remained encased within his skull.
The beam penetrated further into the skull, gradually dispelling the black substance in the brain.
Dormant thoughts began to awaken.
The ocean faded away.
The scene before his eyes returned to reality.
Clang!
The sound of iron chains echoed, coming from above, accompanied by a stinging pain in his calves.
Opening his eyes,
he saw a room filled with countless hanging, deformed corpses—mostly humanoid but some resembling animals. Yi Chen himself was among them, stripped of clothing, his calf pierced by an iron hook, leaving him hanging upside down.
The flickering candlelight from different corners illuminated the meat-processing chamber, where a pig-headed butcher was swiftly handling the corpses.
Take a corpse, place it on the table, cut it into pieces, pour the remains...
Each body took less than five seconds to process—a movement ingrained in muscle memory.
After five more corpses, it would be Yi Chen’s turn.
