An enormous constellation.

The presence of a demigod.

Davey clearly felt the influence of such a being.

"Alright. Let's settle things between us first."

Davey smiled while looking at an energy orb as big as a human forearm, resting in the center of a pile of corpses.

"It's tough for you guys to manifest in this world, isn't it?"

- Hum...

There was no need for them to talk. They simply had to do what needed to be done.

Crackle... Crackle!!

Soon, the energy orb sparked and created a being that resembled a human.

It was a figure wearing old, heat-distorted armor.

Ssss... Haaa...

Hot air began to flow out from the visor.

"Pretty solid… for an avatar. Or are you a separate creature?”

In response to his question, the being's red eyes flickered through the visor. At the same time, a heavy, low voice emerged—despite the heat surrounding its body, its voice was chilling.

"Horne. Davey O’Rowane."

Horne was an ancient term used to refer to humans.

It wasn't anything new. In fact, it was the name given to humans by the Goddess Freyja herself.

"Yeah. And you are?"

Davey asked calmly, extinguishing the energy sword. The being slowly drew a sword and shield—its choice of weapons was very realistic and practical.

"Sorry, but you're going to have to die here,” the being muttered.

"What?"

"Your existence has been deemed a constant hindrance. Therefore, in accordance with the will of the Zodiac constellation Cancer, you shall be eliminated."

Davey quietly closed his eyes and nodded.

"Alright. You do you.”

If the opponent truly resolved to kill him, there was no reason for him to hold back either.

Crackle...

He gathered divinity in his hands, forming a divine sword even denser with energy than before. Since Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon had run off with Evangeline, he had to make do with a simple energy sword.

But then, the armored knight slowly took out a pouch from its waist and scattered some shiny powder.

‘Is that stardust?’

He could tell that the dust was imbued with the power of the stars.

Eventually, the stardust that had been scattered everywhere formed a thin, shimmering veil of various colors. Crackle!! And then. “Where’d my energy sword go?”

The divine power froze. As Davey squinted and looked at his opponent after losing his sword, it raised its dark blade and aimed it at Davey before instantly lunging.

Davey could feel its mana—his divine power was also intact, with no discernible issues. And yet, he couldn’t form his energy sword. He reflexively dodged and deflected the attack before gathering qi into his hands.

[Blood Demonic Attack]

[Fanatic Ghost Light Strike]

[Explosive Demon Ghost Palm]

Whoosh!!!

The Blood Demonic Attack, created through the mixture of devil mana and inner power, glowed and formed into the shape of a black wolf's head. Boom!!! A tremendous shockwave erupted as the crimson energy spread like flames.

But— Slash!!! The knight was unharmed. Even more bizarrely, it was Davey who ended up with injuries. It had used the same rebound ability he had devoured from previous opponents in the past.

‘So I do have to use a sword, or else my attacks won’t land properly…’

The knight’s red eyes flickered behind its visor as it fixed its stance. “Die, you imperfect apostle.” Slash!!! The multicolored light refracted, momentarily restricting Davey's movements. He was being controlled by the power of a demigod of the same rank. It was a new type of power Davey had never seen, even when fighting Destruction or Thanatos. The harsh surprise reminded him why it was necessary to approach unknown powers with caution. Blood trickled down his arm.

He had already ensconced his body within mana and divine power, to the point that his defense should’ve blocked any attack completely. For him to be wounded, there must have been something beyond mere physical strength involved.

The knight was the strongest creation made by the Zodiac constellation Cancer. The delegate in front of him was its chosen executioner. Though it appeared unimpressive, when considering its power and unique conditions it posed a greater threat than even a Princess of the Abyss. The knight stumbled forward and then convulsed violently.

Slowly, he began to speak.

His voice carried an immense presence, unlike before. It was the first time Davey heard the voice of a constellation. “You're raising an ancient dragon.” “...” “You can't handle it.” “That’s for me to decide.” Hearing his response, Cancer slowly responded. Though the body in front of him was a simple servant, a great being was inhibiting the knight’s mind.

“So you’re still a demigod. Though I suppose you’re a bit unique.” “I revealed the truth to her.” Then, the constellation Cancer dropped the bomb.

“What did you just say?”

“That child’s biological parents… You’re not her parent. You’re not…”

“Hey.”

“And how you killed them.”

Boom!

Unable to summon an energy sword, Davey smashed his opponent into the wall with sheer physical force.

“You’re sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, you bastard,” he growled in an icy voice.

“You’re a demigod. Why do you entangle yourself in these pointless karmic ties?”

“…”

“I, too, pursue the purpose of my existence. The War of Constellations. It’s a decree from the Goddess Freyja—our shackle, our curse… and the reason for our lives.”

“So what, you son of a bitch? What’s that have to do with upsetting young Evangeline?”

He then raised his fist once more.

Boom!!

Though his attack didn’t manage to deal any direct damage, the sheer force was enough to shake the surroundings.

“The supreme Dragon Asura. That is her birthright and burden.”

In other words, she was destined to become an overwhelming absolute being.

The seed that would eventually become an absolute predator—an existence that would transcend her parents. She was to surpass the ancient dragon that even the God of the Abyss couldn’t kill, only corrupt.

“I see you as a hindrance, but at the same time, I recognize the duty you bear. Tell me: What is that duty?”

The duty Goddess Freyja had entrusted Davey was simple—to maintain balance of the world; to ensure it doesn’t break; to prevent it from tilting too far in any direction.

“If you wish to fulfill that duty, you must destroy such a dangerous seed with your own hands. That is the purpose of your existence.”

“…”

“If you let her live…”

The stellar eyes of the constellation Cancer gleamed menacingly. At the same time, an image flashed through his mind. It was a scene of a completely collapsed world. Standing amidst that void, staring into the emptiness, was a beautiful girl with jet-black hair.

He knew exactly who she was.

Evangeline.

His beloved daughter, Evangeline O’Rowane.

Squelch!

Then the servant possessed by Cancer pierced through his abdomen with its sword.

“Fulfill your duty. If you won’t, then you have no reason to exist.”

“…”

“Despite all of this, will you still harbor the seed of the Dragon Asura?”

In response to his words, Davey quietly closed his eyes.

* * *

"Fate sure has a funny way of working out.”

Daphne, seated casually on the quiet terrace, gazed at the young woman before her. The silver-haired woman, who had been quietly savoring her tea, slowly lifted her head.

“Are you speaking of Evangeline’s fate?”

“That unfortunate child, yes,” she answered calmly while looking up to the dark expanse above.

The night sky sparkled with countless stars, their light unwavering.

“Can you handle it?” she asked.

“…”

Perserque said nothing in response.

“I’ve grown… skeptical of destiny, lately,” Daphne confessed. “It feels so revolting. That child—her very existence—is destined to become a storm that will shake the continent to its core. Even if it’s near impossible to change that, can you still accept her into your family?”

Perserque lifted her teacup, took a sip, and placed it down again, remaining silent.

Evangeline was bound to become a force that would shake the very foundation of the world. A twisted destiny, to say the least. They had to either control her, or… eliminate her before her destiny was fulfilled.

It was an absolute truth—unavoidable.

Perserque let out a faint, unexpected laugh as she continued to think on those words. After a long silence, she looked up at the sky with a composed expression.

“My father…”

“Ares?”

“How is he doing?”

“He’s the same as ever. Why do you ask?”

Ares had never descended to meet her once more. Considering that Hypocria and Daphne were the only ones who could currently manifest in a descent, the chances of such a meeting was slim.

“Can I ask why you’re suddenly curious?”

“Even after three thousand years… I still miss him.”

Daphne gaped slightly in surprise.

“Even when he drove Caldeiras into my heart, I didn’t hate him. He’s family. Blood ties aren’t restrictive; family remains family.”

She smiled faintly once again. There was an elegance to her smile, and Daphne couldn’t help but admire how captivating she was.

“It’s the same with Davey,” Perserque continued. “Even after a thousand years, he held onto his past life’s family so dearly that his long-dormant rage finally erupted, and he awakened the power of taboo once again.”

“You…”

“Even after a thousand years, he hasn’t forgotten his birth mother, Queen Lennie. Every year, without forgetting, without fail, he visits her grave. He doesn’t say a word, just quietly staring at her tombstone before leaving.”

“…”

“They say demigods must hold fate in the highest regard. That’s wrong—Davey isn’t a demigod.”

“He isn’t…?”

“He’s just…”

Perserque turned her gaze to Daphne, her expression brimming with confidence.

“…a man who wants to live his life the way he wants; who dotes on his daughter because he can’t help how cute she is to him. That’s all.”

Daphne couldn’t hold back her laughter. She knew everything Perserque had said to be true. She found herself chuckling at the absurdity of her own question, as she was someone who had despised putting pressure on Davey.

While she and the others under the Goddess Freyja’s authority had changed, the man they had raised with all their might had never changed from the beginning.

“I…”

Perserque smiled radiantly. Daphne couldn’t help but be momentarily stunned by how beautiful she was.

“…will never abandon my precious family.”

* * *

Crack!

“How…?”

The knight emitted a crimson air of disbelief. The barrier, empowered by a literal constellation themselves, had been overwhelmed and distorted by sheer force.

The distorted power had been exposed to an enormous power—one no longer at the level of a simple demigod.

The tables turned in an instant, as if Davey had been hiding his power until just then to flip the script.

The overwhelming pressure—a torrent of immense, terrifying power—was enough to instill fear even in other demigods. Despite the overwhelming force that pressed down on him, he relentlessly countered it with the sword in his hand.

He had never demonstrated such power before that point. It had begun surging uncontrollably, and within an instant his power grew to a point where it began to suppress the power of the constellation.

‘From the beginning… He was an existence far too powerful. The faint traces of his presence in the world's memory weren’t because he was human… Oh, Goddess…’ It was because he was a human who had grown so strong, so incomprehensibly beyond even the demigods themselves, that he could no longer be perceived clearly by those of the same nature.

“Damn it… You’ve forced my hand, bastard. So you’re a demigod at the end of the day, eh?

Davey let out a mocking laughter, as though ridiculing every false assumption that had been made up until then.

“You’re telling me Evangeline’s destiny will twist the balance of the world?”

“…”

“No parent abandons their child over some superstitious nonsense. Well, I guess maybe some do. But I’m certainly not one of them.”

“You mean to forsake your duty, the very reason for your existence?”

“Duty? Reason for existence? Don’t give me that crap.”

Crack!!

Overwhelming divine power gathered in his hand, spinning like the blade of a sword. Cancer couldn’t even manage to fight back with its own strength. His power soon obliterated the barrier it had put up, shattering it completely. Though both outwardly appeared as demigods, it was clear that Davey was on a whole other level of power.

“My reason for existence is what I decide. It’s not something dictated by anyone else.”

Crack!!

“And if Evangeline’s destiny is what you claim, then I’ll protect her and guide her down the right path myself.”

Crack!!

Finally, the armor of the knight shattered, revealing a gem-like heart within. Davey tore it out, and as the power sustaining the servant of Cancer faltered, it went on both knees. With a swift motion, Davey gripped the space around it, anchoring it in place.

He spoke with an icy coldness.

“I will never abandon Evangeline. No matter what happens,” he said while puffing. “Even though we’re not bound by blood, she’s my daughter, you bastard.”

Slash!!

As he clawed away space, the surroundings twisted and rippled into a vortex, causing his unleashed power to run wild.

Soon, the light of Zodiac constellation Cancer began to fade. The supernatural power emanating from the individual stars within the constellation seemed to dissipate and crumble as it was suppressed.

“You may see it that way… but let’s see if that Dragon Asura, now aware of its true origins, will think the same of you.”

Davey mocked its feeble attempt at disturbing his emotions.

“Kids always have a rebellious phase. It’s nothing new.”

Crack!!

The space around them split as light surged inward. It was as if a star was collapsing in on itself, unleashing divine power from its body. As Davey further suppressed and squeezed the starlight, black cracks began forming on it.

The constellation, desperate and overwhelmed, resisted with everything it had.

[Pfft. Absurd!! A demigod-level being abandoning their divine duty for mere fleeting affection?!]

“Fleeting affection? Watch your words.”

Crack!!

“Evangeline is my precious daughter—irreplaceable, no matter how many thousands or millions of years pass.”

Its resistance was futile. Unlike the other constellations, Cancer had recklessly burned through its power to awaken and descend, leaving it unable to leverage its full potential.

Davey didn’t criticize its choice. The consciousness of each of the Twelve Zodiacs was unique, and for demigods to uphold their divine duties was natural.

Ssss…

With that, one of the twelve constellations dimmed and fell silent, its light fading away.

One of the foundational constellations had been extinguished, yet it was done by another force besides the mythical foretold War of Constellations. The remaining constellations that were still dormant to stir and tremble violently in their slumber.

ChubbyCheeks & FriedNook's Thoughts

Editorb’s Thoughts

Wowee, so Davey literally just destroyed a constellation. Quirky and spiritual astrology lovers absolutely rekt, now they’re gonna have to come up with a different sign than Cancer the crab. Honestly, if I had to pick a constellation to disappear, Cancer is a pretty obvious first choice. The name never felt right considering modern medicine’s discovery of cancerous cells and all the connotations that come with it. Whip out those textbooks, scientists, cuz now you’re gonna have to come up with a new constellation!

Interestingly enough, turns out there are a metric shitload of constellations in our sky. The Twelve Zodiac constellations? PSH. Nah. The International Astronomical Union has recognized EIGHTY EIGHT constellations in our sky, so there are plenty to take Cancer’s place. Any name suggestions?

Pic included is the freshly murdered corpse of Cancer the constellation:
