The Strongest Dull Prince’s Secret Battle for the Throne
Chapter 648: Barrier Activation"Oh, how gross."
"However, it's convenient that he's grown so large."
Facing the true form of Asmodeus, Egor and Linares were the first to act. Having already taken on a large number of demons at the front lines, they found it more convenient to focus on just one target. They quickly approached Asmodeus, guessing that his large body would make him less agile. However...
"Be careful. Now that I am not using a human as a host, I won't be able to hold back."
With that warning, Asmodeus quickly swung his right arm. Though his upper body retained a humanoid form, its scale was far beyond human. A closed in Egor and Linares were repelled by that arm and sent flying and crashing into the buildings of the royal capital.
"...Maybe we should take back what we said about this being convenient, Egor."
"Yes, it seems having more of them might have been better."
They emerged from the rubble, visibly still spirited but bleeding from various wounds, indicating just how troublesome Asmodeus was. Asmodeus then aimed his right hand at them with the intention of preparing for another attack, prompting Egor and Linares to brace themselves. Yet, their preparation was interrupted.
"Align properly with me, No-Name!"
"Same goes for you."It wasn’t only Egor and Linares that saw an opportunity in Asmodeus's enlarged form. Before him stood No-Name and Elna with their swords drawn. One wielded a magic sword, the other a holy sword, both enhancing their magic for a powerful strike.
"O Dis Pater, heed my call—Thou art the sword of the underworld, clad in shadow, to obliterate all; thy master now desires annihilation!"
"O Holy Sword Aurora! Release thy power… to vanquish my foe!!"
Their voices filled the battlefield as darkness gathered around the magic sword Dis Pater and golden light around the holy sword Aurora, each drawing immense power.
Both gave their all, but compared to the holy sword, Dis Pater seemed slightly inferior. With a bitter smile, No-Name pushed beyond her limits, augmenting her magic.
"Darkness Slash!!"
"Light Heaven Slash!!"
Shadow and light surged towards Asmodeus in powerful streams, akin to Elna's previous strike yet not inferior, with No-Name’s blow joining the onslaught. These dual streams were blocked by a barrier Asmodeus erected in front of him— which were five layers thick. Though four of them were breached, Asmodeus remained unscathed as he perfectly defended against their attacks. Both Elna and No-Name were stunned, but Asmodeus simply sneered at their efforts.
"Did you think the same trick would work twice? I absorbed my minions for a reason. Not only has my overall defense improved, but my destructive power now surpasses all the demons combined."
Saying so, Asmodeus gathered immense energy in both hands. Seeing this, Elna cried out.
"Your Majesty!!"
When Sieg and the royal court's mage division arrived, Asmodeus had just revealed his true form. Shocked by the turn of events yet determined to fulfill their duty, they raced across the battlefield.
"Hey, where are they!?"
Sieg searched for his target among the allied soldiers and found them in the rear.
"There you are, Celestial Princess-sama! Found you!"
"Ah, Sieg! You've returned to your charming form! Indeed, I prefer you this way!"
There stood Orihime, who had been casting a powerful barrier in front of the emperor as their last defense.
"Stop saying that! Anyway, I'm returning this. It really helped me a lot!"
Sieg handed the holy talisman back to Orihime, who smiled in response.
"I don't need it."
"What!? Why? That thing's incredibly dangerous!"
Asmodeus's presence alone was suffocating, even from a distance. If Sieg felt this way, the mere sight of Asmodeus would shatter the morale of the other soldiers.
"The talisman is powerful, but it's not meant for me."
"Not meant for you… Then use it!"
"It should be given to someone else. It would be wasted on me. I can only defend. Even if we fend off the threat, it won't solve the root problem. Humanity needs not a shield now, but a sword. Someone who can fight should use it."
With that, Orihime stepped forward, followed by the mage division that had arrived with Sieg.
"I understand your intention. Though we may have little strength, let us assist you Celestial Princess-sama."
"Ah, the royal mage division. Indeed, your help will be valuable. You've been studying my barrier, haven't you?"
"Of course. Our main duty has been to research your barrier."
"How diligent indeed!"
"For our Adrasia Empire, surpassing your barrier has been a long-standing goal. However, all we managed was a mere imitation."
"An imitation… That's sufficient. I will need your help!"
"Gladly. Get ready for the formation for the ritual barrier!"
The royal court's mage division began their preparations for the ritual magic. After continuous research on the Princess of Immortals' barrier, they developed a barrier magic that mimics hers, which could be activated by a hundred royal mages.
"Ritual Barrier Magic!! Barrier of Might!!"
In front of the allied forces, a giant triangular barrier was formed, consisting of three layers. Additionally, Orihime deployed a circular barrier, amounting to five layers.
"That immense power is too much for one entity. Just maintaining it should exhaust him making it impossible to be inexhaustible. Let's engage in a war of attrition with him!!"
As Orihime spoke, Asmodeus launched his attack.
