Chapter 60: We Are the Rules

Chapter 60: We Are the Rules

Fox Broadcasting Center, Channel 11 Director’s Office

Cynthia Rosberg wore a pleasant smile as she praised Megan Taylor, seated across from her. “Your recent shows have been excellent. Ratings are up significantly.”

Megan knew her boss hadn’t called her in just for compliments. She hinted, “That’s because we’ve had explosive headlines, which give the team a strong foundation to create compelling content.”

Cynthia’s tone shifted. “And the expenses have been significant, too. Last night, we spent $100,000 on just one piece of news.”

Prepared for this, Megan responded directly, “A reporter captured footage of Sarah Parker and her husband, Bro Derek, engaging in a threesome with a former male model.”

Cynthia sighed. “Sarah Parker’s husband is Bro Derek, an executive and producer at Ackman Pictures. I’ve told you before—any news involving prominent producers must be handled with caution.”

Her voice grew firmer. “This story needs to be shelved. Do not air it.”

Megan objected, “That story cost us $100,000, and the team signed a transfer agreement. We can’t just waste it.”

“The National Enquirer previously reported on Sarah Parker’s scandals, and Bro Derek was implicated,” Megan argued, trying to justify the story’s relevance.

Cynthia waved her hand, her tone turning stern. “Are you truly this naive, or are you pretending to be? Sarah Parker’s infidelity painted Bro as a victim, showcasing his grace. But this story implicates him directly and could harm his career.”

Megan started to speak, but Cynthia raised her hand to stop her.

“Roger Ailes himself called me,” Cynthia said. “Do you understand now?”

Megan fell silent. Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch’s most trusted confidant, was the king of Fox News.

As the implications dawned on her, Megan realized this wasn’t just about unspoken industry rules but about larger forces at play.

Fox’s upper echelons were predominantly Jewish, and Bro Derek was part of that group.

Megan understood well the immense power wielded by Jewish influences in the media and entertainment world—resistance was futile.

Quietly, she stood to leave.

Cynthia added, “Seal the footage. Do not let it leak. And inform the reporter who provided it—they can keep the money but must keep their mouth and hands in check.”

Megan immediately grasped the situation. The reporter’s information had already been leaked. “Journalism law explicitly prohibits revealing sources. Protecting reporters is fundamental to press freedom.”

Cynthia smirked. “You still don’t get it, my dear. We are the rules.

Megan understood. That “we” didn’t include her—it was a power far beyond her reach.

“Get to it,” Cynthia urged.

Back in the newsroom, Megan instructed Claire, “Gather everyone for a meeting.”

A few minutes later, the team filled the conference room.

“The ‘three-person scandal’ story is canceled and sealed.” As both anchor and producer, Megan looked directly at Abraham Adler, a man with a prominent nose. “Care to explain why?”

Abraham, one of the few who had seen the video, remained composed. “I didn’t want the show to face a crisis.”

Megan’s tone hardened. “Pack your things and leave my team. Wherever you go next, ask the person you called last night.”

The room fell silent as others turned toward Abraham, their expressions a mix of anger, disdain, and contempt.

Traitors and informants were despised everywhere.

Abraham calmly gathered his belongings, unfazed. His Jewish heritage gave him advantages in the industry.

The previous night, after confirming that Jewish producer Bro Derek was about to be scandalized, he had immediately informed his mentor.

There was an unspoken understanding within the Jewish community, both inside and outside the industry. As long as the situation wasn’t too severe, they would look out for one another.

Stars like Downey were expendable, but someone like Bro Derek, who controlled valuable resources, was an entirely different story.

After setting an example, Megan instructed, “Claire, you and Molly oversee the destruction of the footage. Bring me the storage drives afterward.”

The drives were handed over.

Such sensitive material was tightly controlled—only two copies existed, and both were destroyed.

Megan personally took the storage drives to the archive center, where they were labeled and placed in Fox’s secure vault.

These would now be resources under Fox’s control.

Standing by the window, Megan gazed out at Century City. She pulled out her phone, found Hawk’s number, and called him. “Are you free for coffee? My treat.”

Half an hour later, Megan arrived in Westwood and met Hawk at a coffee shop. Hawk had just come from the gym.

After ordering, Hawk asked curiously, “What’s this about? Is there an issue with the footage?”

“There is.” Megan got straight to the point. “Roger Ailes pressured my boss, and the story was pulled. The footage is sealed.”

She added, “You know who Roger Ailes is, right?”

“Of course. The big boss of Fox News.” Hawk wasn’t entirely surprised—Bro Derek wasn’t just another celebrity.

His main concern was different. “Megan, I signed a copyright transfer agreement with your team. There’s no way I’m returning the $100,000.”

Megan rolled her eyes. “You don’t need to return it. I called you not only to inform you but to warn you. If you have any copies of the footage, do not let them leak. This involves the Jewish powers in Hollywood and the media. It’s more trouble than you think.”

Hawk nodded. “The Jewish influence in media sounds intimidating.”

Recognizing Hawk’s knack for delivering headline-worthy stories, Megan didn’t want to lose him just yet. She said seriously, “They see themselves as the principles. They ignore the law because they believe they are the law. Your information has been leaked, and they may try to warn or pressure you. Be careful.”

Hawk drew a finger across his neck. “Like this?”

“Not that extreme.” Megan shook her head. “Bro Derek isn’t that important. He’s just a mid-level executive and producer. But those people have a habit of banding together to protect their group’s interests.”

“I understand,” Hawk said, smiling. “Thanks for the heads-up.”

“Just a small favor,” Megan replied dismissively.

“Looks like you’ve been warned too,” Hawk noted. “If the footage leaked, would you be in trouble?”

Megan forced a smile. “I might lose my job.”

Seeing her feigned concern for him, Hawk mirrored her tone. “Don’t worry. I’m a man of principle. I took $100,000 from you, so I’ll ensure the footage doesn’t leak.”

Megan could only accept his promise. “Thank you.”

Hawk stood to leave. “I should get going. Still have work to do.”

True to her word, Megan paid the bill and left a tip.

After leaving the coffee shop, Hawk drove down Santa Monica Boulevard and parked in a quiet spot.

Thinking carefully about the day’s events, he concluded that Megan wasn’t lying. His identity as the source had likely been leaked.

Bro Derek probably knew by now that someone named Hawk Osmond had filmed him.

It wouldn’t be long before someone came to warn or intimidate him.

Of course, a Hollywood producer wasn’t going to meet a “paparazzi” in person.

Hawk didn’t like being passive. If trouble was inevitable, why not take the initiative?

Sarah Parker’s PR manager, Caroline Jones, was someone he knew.

After some deliberation, Hawk dialed Caroline’s number.

When she answered, he said with a grin, “Ms. Jones, I have something to discuss with you. How about we rent a pool for a private swim and chat?”
