The realm beast felt fear for the first time in its life. It felt like the mother that had accompanied it since its birth disappear in this foreign world. Without its mother, it was just a lost duckling. So, it struggled. It disregarded its injuries and consequences and fought to escape this hellish nightmare.

Its muscles, which not even divinities could match, twitched madly. Teeth that could match any divine spear pierced and sliced the darkness. Similarly, claws comparable to divine swords sliced through the darkness. A tail that could split realms whipped continuously.

It was all useless.

Tianyi watched as the realm beast continued to struggle. If an emperor, no, even if an ordinary saint could access that power, they would have been able to break out of his Nine Heavens Nebulous Formation. After all, no matter how powerful a realm beast, it was just a beast. A brute that didn’t know how to efficiently use its own powers to their full capabilities.

Although he thought that, it didn’t mean he had an easy time. Ninety-nine percent of the formation was used to trap the realm beast within. The other one percent was slowly transitioning the realm beast from the gap between the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System and the Nine Heavens Universe created by the Nebulous Negation. The farther the realm beast was separated from the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System was, the greater its struggle.

At the very least, Tianyi discovered the rumor was real. The realm beast had a near infinite supply of essence thanks to its connection with the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System. It was slight, but Tianyi could detect that its energy reserves dwindled at a slightly faster rate the more it was pushed into the gap.

Tianyi believed that as long as he fully pushed the realm beast into the gap, it would give up its needless struggle. Even if it didn’t, as long as its energy reached a low enough point, he could subdue it easily. If he hadn’t pushed it into his inner universe by then.

At that point, he would force a spiritual contract between himself and the realm beast. At that point, he could test if the realm beast would escape his control in the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System. If it would escape his control, he would simply let it remain in the Nine Heavens Universe forever.

Although it would be a pity, Tianyi also wanted to create his own realm beast. There was no reason that the Nine Heavens Universe could not have realm beasts when the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System could. After all, he had seen the edges of the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System, but he had not found the limit of his inner universe. Perhaps it was because he had not fully mastered the universe, but what he already seen allowed him to estimate that his inner universe was the same size, if not larger than the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System.

Tianyi liked the concept of realm beasts. There was life inside his Nine Heavens Universe and a rudimentary cycle of reincarnation, but he had no outstanding subordinates.

He had three disciples, Jinshu, Ming Xingyun, and Leng Junfeng, but he wouldn’t treat them as his subordinates. And Su Bojing was too weak. Even the Su Clan was not suited. He never accepted their fealty, but they were practically his subordinates in all but name.

Tianyi was neither deaf nor blind. He knew that Su Bojing was giving the resources he was granted to train the next generation. In his eyes, instead of using it on himself, why not support more pillars for the Su Clan? And Su Bojing was clear that his willpower was average. It wasn’t the average among immortals but saints. He knew that he would likely die younger than other true immortals, so he wanted to train a new steward for Tianyi. That way, the Su Clan could continue to prosper under the Nine Heavens Emperor.

As for the Su Clan exceeding Tianyi? Su Bojing didn’t think it was possible. After all, he could be considered having a front-row seat to the Nine Heavens Emperor’s legend.

He was satisfied with Su Bojing. He didn’t overstep his bounds and had a pretty good relationship with himself. If Su Bojing could order a realm beast, he would be the perfect subordinate. Not to mention that Tianyi didn’t need to consider the emotions of realm beasts. They were just tools.

Only, Tianyi never expected how much of a tool they would be.

The realm beast underwent a dramatic change when it fully entered the gap created by the Nebulous Negation. Like a puppet with its strings cut, the realm beast went limp. The savagery in its eyes died. Its struggle ceased, and it curled up into a fetal position.

Tianyi narrowed his eyes. He could sense the vast amount of energy contained within the realm beast’s body disappearing at an expedited rate. The strange thing was that the energy wasn’t leaving the body, but simply disappearing into nowhere.

Although the world of cultivation was magical, many laws and theories stayed the same, such as the laws of conservation of energy.

It was simply impossible for the energy in the realm beast’s body to simply vanish. According to Tianyi’s guess, the realm beast was much more closely linked to the Heavenly Dao than previously thought. If the realm beast got out of control or left its influence, the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System must have a way to retrieve the realm beast, or at least the energy in its body and destroy it, so as not to let the perpetrator profit.

Stolen story; please report.

Tianyi didn’t have much time to think. He had to pull the realm beast into the Nine Heavens Universe before any other unexpected changes occurred. He didn’t think that the Heavenly Dao could affect the realm beast once it was inside his inner universe.

Chains shot out of the darkness and wrapped around the beast’s neck and limbs. The other end of the chain pulled, intending to absorb the realm beast into the Nine Heavens Universe as fast as possible, but it encountered an even greater resistance. The difficulty was greater than the struggle the realm beast put up.

It was quite literally a tug of war between the Nine Heavens Universe and the Heavenly Dao of the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System.

Upon seeing that his efforts bore little fruit, Tianyi changed his approach. The Immortal Confining Sword appeared and slashed the realm beast. Now that the realm beast was in the gap created by Nebulous Negation, he had a lot more leeway. However, the results were not satisfactory.

Because the scales had been destroyed, the divine sword only needed to slash through the hide into the muscle, but it only left a shallow cut at best. Even though the realm beast had given up all defense, it was still not something that could be easily dealt with. Ideally, Tianyi would inject pure essence into it, but that was beyond his current limit while stabilizing the Nine Heavens Nebulous Formation.

Tianyi persevered and reached the bones. He discovered that the Immortal Confining Sword could only leave a faint mark on the bone at best. Even if he slashed the same spot a thousand times, it would likely only result in a faint line, far from enough to dismember the realm beast and pull it into the Nine Heavens Universe piece by piece. He focused on the tendons, which was a much easier target.

The Immortal Confining Sword switched its role from a cleaver into a surgical scalpel.

After hours, the tendons connecting the femur to the shoulder were finally separated. The chains wrapped around the dismembered limb instantly strengthened and pulled. There was a counterforce, but it was much weaker than the one on the rest of the body. In fact, the force on the realm beast weakened a bit as well.

‘I see,’ Tianyi thought. No matter what, the Heavenly Dao needed to be present in order to take action. In the gap between the Three Thousand Immortal Realm System and the Nine Heavens Universe, the Heavenly Dao should not be present. Or else it would have already sent heavenly punishment. No, it simply used the realm beast’s body as a medium. ‘I should have thought of it earlier.’

The realm beast’s body had been split, weakening the medium, which equated to less force the Heavenly Dao could use. It was a case of one plus one giving a result greater than two. Only this time, it was the reverse. With one part missing, the loss was greater than the part.

Tianyi had already given up capturing the realm beast alive. At this point, he would be happy if he could keep half the body, including the head.

With one of the limbs obtained, he focused on the other parts of the body. The head had the greatest resistance, so he focused on the tail.

Tianyi continued to fight the proxy war against the Heavenly Dao with no fear. It’s not like it was the first time he offended the principle of the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System. What’s one more?

Eventually, the realm beast’s body was separated into seven parts: the head, the torso, two arms, two legs, and a tail. Tianyi had already grabbed all the limbs and tail, leaving only the head and torso.

The energy reserves inside the head and torso had dropped to less than ten percent. Tianyi estimated that he only had enough time to pull one of the two pieces before all the energy was depleted. When that happened, he didn’t know what would happen to the realm beast’s body part.

He stuck to his original plan and focused all his attention on the head. More chains shot out of the darkness and bound the head. The chains originally binding the torso loosened and redirected toward the head as well.

Tianyi encountered the greatest resistance yet, not counting when he tried to pull the entire body. During the process, the energy depletion increased at an exponential rate, causing a hint of urgency to appear in Tianyi’s eyes.

The energy continued to dwindle.

Nine percent.

Eight percent.

Seven percent.

Five percent.

Two percent.

Complete depletion.

The moment the beast’s head and torso’s energy reserves reached zero, pieces disintegrated like chalk dust. An ugly expression appeared on Tianyi’s face. He pulled the realm beast’s head even harder with his chains. To his surprise, the resistance weakened, and he was able to pull the beast’s head into the Nine Heavens Universe much more easily.

Even though he had successfully pulled the realm beast into his inner universe, Tianyi wasn’t happy. The disintegration did not stop.

He injected essence into the head, but if anything, that only increased the rate of disintegration. Tianyi attempted to study the energy in the other limbs and replicate the realm beast’s energy, but he was not very fruitful. By the time he figured it out, the realm beast’s head would have already fully turned into dust.

With no other way, Tianyi extracted the energy from the limbs and injected them into the head. Only then did the disintegration halt, but by then, half the skull already revealed itself.

Tianyi would love to continue the research on the unique energy the realm beast used. Although the depletion of energy halted, it was still disappearing at a very slow rate. It gave him quite a bit of time, maybe a few months to a year, to find a substitute or discover the secrets of the realm beast, but for now, he had more important matters to attend to.

Ever since he started trapping the realm beast with the Nine Heavens Nebulous Formation, he had ignored everything happening on the battlefield. Well, except for the health of his wife and Ba Shifang. They had his conduits on their body, but unless they encountered a life or death situation, he did not divide any attention. Now that he had successfully—well, some matter of success—obtained the realm beast, he had to rejoin the war.

“I wonder if we are winning?”

Tianyi didn’t take down the Nine Heavens Nebulous Formation. It was quite troublesome to set up, so it was better to assess the situation first to see if he needed to continue using it or not. When he directed his eyes toward the war outside, Tianyi could help but pause. “Eh?”
