Vampire Overlord System in the Apocalypse
Chapter 49 - Expedition To The Wastelands-----
Noah walked inside of the classroom and sat down in his seat, the teacher quickly entered and began classes.
"Today is the day, we will be having a quick expedition to the outskirts of Sector D, and we'll show you all how the world… truly is. Be prepared, as there will most likely be Mutated Beasts, which we'll have to exterminate if we ever come across one," said the teacher.
Clementina Icespear, one of the stoic beauties of the Class and someone at almost the peak of E-Rank, raised her hand.
"Yes?" asked the teacher.
"What is the Rank of power that the Mutated Beasts will have, teacher?" she asked rather directly.
"Well, by using our War Machines and Hunters to clean up the area, most of the strong ones have been exterminated, however, there is the chance for Mutated Beasts up to E-Rank to emerge sometimes, but it shouldn't be anything too serious," said the teacher.
"E-Rank… I see," said Clementina, as her eyes glowed with fervent conviction.
"It is only an expedition, so our main purpose is not to go hunt Mutated Beasts but to know how the world outside is… Mostly because the majority here hasn't known about the outside world, and had been born in here," said the teacher.
"The outside world… That brings some memories…" thought Noah with an expressionless face, as the light of his eyes disappeared, remembering the past he once lived.
Noah, unlike most students here, was born in the wastelands.
It was not up until he was around six years old when he was rescued and then sent inside of Sector D.
He knew very well the living hell that was the outside world.
Giant mutated beasts roam everywhere.
Monstrous creatures devour each other in endless madness.
Armies of crazed zombies ravage anything they come across.
Flying malformed creatures catch giant prey in the go.
He can still remember it.
The day his parents died.
The day he was locked inside an abandoned house underground for days.
As he heard the cries of agony of his parents being devoured alive.
And as he cried until he fell asleep.
The agony only continued as the days went on, as he heard beasts come and devour the corpses of his parents, bit by bit…
However, Noah was different now.
He was not powerless.
He had the power to change his destiny.
He was not powerless to be locked away while hopelessly hear his parents die.
Noah swallowed saliva.
The outside world was his trauma, perhaps.
And by going outside, he would be getting over such a thing.
He must know the outside world better and must see how it is now, after so many years of living inside Sector D.
Mutated Beasts? They are only materials now, resources.
And he will make sure to hunt them down, no matter how 'humane' they may look.
However, there was another topic.
Subhumans.
Most students saw them as equal to Mutated Beasts, others saw them as lowly slaves.
But Noah saw opportunities on them.
The discriminated, the poor, the powerless.
He wanted them at his side.
He had the power to give power to others.
And who else could they count than on him?
Those that had nowhere to go could only see him as their salvation, and swear loyalty to him.
Subhumans? Similarly to the robots, they will become his subordinates and his strength.
Who cares what Humans think about?
He only cared about himself and his family, everyone else could go die.
As the teacher kept explaining things, Arthur communicated with Noah telepathically.
"Noah, the robots have been introduced to our manor, and seem to be adapting quite fine. However, Big Sis is way too big, so she was left in the garage. She has been processing the materials we harvested, and we might either use them to craft equipment with the crafters that work for my father or… sell them to increase our money, I've also bought several new parts for the damaged robots, and Sugar seems to be working hard to repair the majority, if they all get into a good condition, our strength will increase," said Arthur.
"I see. Good work. For now, let's concentrate on what's ahead of our path," said Noah.
"Yes, of course… I guess we will just go explore around and that's it? Not much of a problem," said Arthur.
"I believe that we might be targeted by students, some hold grudges against us as we got perfect scores," said Noah.
"O-Oh…" said Arthur.
"What did you think this expedition was about, Arthur? It's obvious that the higher-ups are using this one to filter us even more, they want conflicts between us, to separate us as students, and to make us kill each other, the less there are, the more talented we are, and the more useful we become for them, filtering the useless and weak is their priority…" said Noah.
"That's… I guess it might be true…" said Arthur.
"We are not here to be protected and be given opportunities to become Hunters. We are here to be nurtured as Soldiers for the government, after all, this is a Military School. This society is more inhumane than you think. People have long lost their feelings of humanity, this world is shrouded in chaos, you cannot blame them, right? Survival is the priority, and only the fittest shall survive…" said Noah to Arthur.
"Noah… you…" muttered Arthur.
"If we have to kill, we'll kill. And if they are too strong for us to kill, we escape as much as we can, and survive, even if we have to struggle. I won't fight battles that I cannot win, and the same goes for you, if any of you die, my strength will reduce, make sure to stay alive," said Noah.
"…Yes, I understand… I will make sure to protect your back, Noah," said Arthur.
"Well, that's reassuring, and I shall do the same," said Noah.
"Tch… Your stupid human emotions will not let you anywhere! I thought you embraced my power, but you are still a weak and pathetic human! Do you truly believe that bonds will get you anywhere?! They only hinder your growth!" roared the Blood Progenitor.
"I see that you talk by experience, were you betrayed before? Perhaps you always sucked at dealing with people and forging bonds of mutual trust. I can't blame you, you were a monster after all," laughed Noah.
"Y-You! I am not a monster! I was-"
"A Vampire Progenitor? And where did that came to help you? You were targeted by the Sun Heralds and perhaps betrayed by your slaves, but that was because you never held your authority as a true leader. There is a difference between a boss and a leader, you controlled people, but never lead them somewhere. You never promised them something nor gave them results, you only used them. You could have forged better bonds of trust, you could have managed to create strong allies, but you were too self-centered on your hypocrisy and selfishness to even fathom such a thought," said Noah.
"Y-You damn… human! How dare you… tell me such… a thing… I…" muttered the Blood Progenitor.
"What? Why are you stuttering? Did I hurt you somewhere? It seems that I might nail there… Don't come ordering me around again, Dracula," said Noah.
The Blood Progenitor fell silent, as Noah told him what he failed at, and he could only contemplate his own mistakes.
