Chapter 184: The Terror of the Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox—Two god Sons Played to Death
The group entered the stone chamber, quickly shutting the door behind them to block the villagers’ attacks.
The chamber wasn’t large, but in its center was a deep pit. Jumping down revealed a massive subterranean world.
“This place is huge!”
“It feels like an underground tomb…”
Li Xuan’s death had little impact on the group; their exploration continued as usual.
“Is it here?” Lin Qi’an asked telepathically.
Bai Jiuli responded, “Yes! I can clearly sense its presence. After my tail detached, it gained sentience and the ability to possess objects. Be careful.”
Following a long tunnel, the group ventured deeper. Ancient stone walls loomed on either side, inscribed with large, red characters:
“Sin.”
The word was written haphazardly across the walls, creating an eerie atmosphere that made their scalps tingle.
“It seems this place was meant to punish sinners. Perhaps the villagers were cursed with eternal undeath as retribution for their crimes.”
Bai Jiuli murmured, “The problem is, this curse isn’t something just anyone can create. Even a Great Emperor wouldn’t be capable of it. This thing is on a much higher level.”
A Great Emperor wouldn’t qualify?
The idea that there was something more powerful than a Great Emperor was shocking, though Lin Qi’an quickly accepted it.
He thought, With a system like mine, why wouldn’t such a thing exist?
“You don’t seem surprised!” Bai Jiuli exclaimed.
“Wait a second,” Lin Qi’an said, a realization dawning. “Wasn’t your task just to guide me into this forbidden area? You never did anything!”
It struck him that he’d been doing all the work. Bai Jiuli had simply been tagging along.
“I saved your life once, didn’t I?” Bai Jiuli retorted, her tone defensive but lacking conviction.
“And I got the key and opened the chamber for you. We’re even. You’re on your own now.”
“But… if I face a strong enemy, I won’t stand a chance!” Bai Jiuli protested, clearly nervous.
She understood that against the elite talents here, her only option would be to flee using illusions. Success was only likely if Lin Qi’an helped.
“If you want my help, fine. But first, you’ll need to help me with something. I’m planning to kill someone later.”
“Kill someone? Sure!” Bai Jiuli agreed without hesitation.
“That was quick.”
“You help me; I help you. Simple as that. Tell me what you need.”
“Just use your illusions.”
“Got it.”
Lin Qi’an turned to the others and said, “This place is full of chambers, almost like a maze. I suggest we split up to search.”
“Agreed!”
“Let’s split up and rely on our own skills.”
The others had already been considering this, knowing they’d find nothing good if they stayed with Lin Qi’an. One by one, they left to search alone.
“Liuli, I suggest you team up with Zhao Yunji. Watch each other’s backs,” Lin Qi’an advised.
“You’re going solo?”
“Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
Kui Xiao and Jin Lingkong left together, choosing not to separate.
“Lin Qi’an wanted to go alone. He’s definitely up to something,” Jin Lingkong said.
“Agreed. Let’s stick together to avoid his schemes,” Kui Xiao replied.
They walked deeper into the maze, eventually coming across two adjacent chambers.
“You take the left; I’ll take the right. Let’s meet back here after.”
“Understood.”
The two entered their respective chambers. As the heavy doors shut behind them, Lin Qi’an appeared in the shadows, a sly grin on his face.
Moments like these felt deeply satisfying. In stories and movies, the villain lurking in the dark to ambush the protagonist was always the antagonist. Now, Lin Qi’an found himself playing that role.
“Your turn,” he said, glancing at the bell on his waist.
The bell transformed into a purple light, landing on the ground as a perfect replica of Kui Xiao.
Bai Jiuli’s illusion as the Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox was flawless. Unless someone had abilities like Zhao Yunji’s Autumn Pupil Divine Eyes or Lin Qi’an’s Heavenly Fated Villain Divine Eyes, it was impossible to see through it.
The illusionary Kui Xiao opened the door and stepped out.
“Kui Xiao, finished exploring already?”
“Yes. There wasn’t much in my chamber. What about yours?”
“Nothing worthwhile either,” Jin Lingkong replied.
“Then let’s move on.”
The false Kui Xiao followed Jin Lingkong away, leaving the real Kui Xiao behind in his chamber.
After waiting for them to leave, Lin Qi’an stepped out of the shadows and pushed open the door to Kui Xiao’s chamber.
Inside, the real Kui Xiao was still searching, unaware of what was about to happen.
“Lin Qi’an, it’s you!” Kui Xiao’s pupils constricted, and he immediately began shouting for Jin Lingkong.
Unfortunately for him, Jin Lingkong had already been lured away by Bai Jiuli’s illusion and couldn’t hear him.
“Lin Qi’an… what are you planning to do?” Kui Xiao asked, a mix of anger and fear in his voice.
“Not much. Teng She felt lonely down there, so I’m sending you to keep him company.”
“You! If you kill me, aren’t you afraid of my Kui Dragon Clan’s wrath?” Kui Xiao’s eyes widened with fury and panic.
“Relax. No one will know. You’ll have plenty of company down there.”
Boom!
A loud rumble echoed from behind, catching Jin Lingkong’s attention.
“What was that? Could someone be fighting?” He turned around, only to see Kui Xiao’s figure slowly fading into nothingness.
“What?!” A sense of dread swept over him, sending chills down his spine as he trembled in fear.
Looking around, Jin Lingkong realized that Kui Xiao had truly vanished—there was no one by his side.
“This can’t be… How is this possible? Kui Xiao was just here with me! How could he suddenly disappear?” He rushed back to the stone chamber, his heart gripped by panic.
Upon opening the door, he was greeted by a horrific sight: Kui Xiao’s lifeless body lay on the ground, while the perpetrator had long since vanished.
Fear coursed through Jin Lingkong as his mind raced.
‘Who? Who could have such power, pulling the strings from the shadows? Could it have been Lin Qi’an? No, impossible!’ Jin Lingkong thought, shaking his head.
Then who was the Kui Xiao that had been walking alongside him? The more he thought about it, the more terrified he became.
As his fear reached its peak, a familiar voice sounded behind him.
“Brother Jin, why did you leave me behind? I’ve been looking for you everywhere!” He turned sharply to see Kui Xiao standing there, alive and well.
He glanced back at the corpse on the ground, still warm. A chill swept over him, and a wave of invisible terror gripped him.
“Who are you?!” Jin Lingkong roared, his voice trembling as he unleashed a golden energy slash.
“Wow, so violent,” Bai Jiuli said lazily, her playful tone echoing as she transformed into a pink streak of light and vanished.
Moments later, Lin Qi’an stepped into the room, visibly impressed. The Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox truly lived up to its reputation as a master of deception.
Despite being weaker than the two God Sons, Bai Jiuli had manipulated them with ease, leading them to their deaths.
If not for his unique abilities, Lin Qi’an knew he might have fallen victim to her illusions as well.
“Lin Qi’an?!” Jin Lingkong’s eyes widened in realization as everything became clear.
“This… this was all your doing! You want to kill us all?”
“What else? Leave you alive to cause trouble?” Lin Qi’an replied nonchalantly.
“You’re not afraid of my Tianhai Dao Domain seeking revenge?”
Lin Qi’an sighed. “Why do you all say the same thing? Let me repeat: who makes it out of this place alive is up to me.”
With his current strength, Lin Qi’an had easily handled the mutated Li Xuan. Against these untransformed opponents, he was unstoppable.
In mere moments, both God Sons of Tianhai Dao Domain were dispatched.
[Ding! Current kill count: 5.]
Out of the ten people who had entered the forbidden area, Lin Qi’an had now killed half of them.
The first kill might have been an accident, but he had directly orchestrated the rest. The only remaining opponent was Xi Chao, the last Destined Child.
With Xi Chao under the surveillance of the Heavenly Fated Villain Divine Eyes, Lin Qi’an was in complete control of the situation.
Still, as a protagonist with the fortune of the heavens, Xi Chao would likely be the one to find the treasure hidden within the forbidden area. Lin Qi’an planned to let him do the work, then swoop in to reap the rewards.
“Lin Qi’an, you really are a demon—killing without hesitation,” Bai Jiuli remarked, unable to hide her awe.
“What’s the matter? Regretting helping me?” Lin Qi’an chuckled.
“No… I just think that only someone like you, a true demon, can achieve greatness.”
“Flatter me all you want, but I couldn’t have done it without you, my little fox.”
“A demon and a fox—a perfect pair, wouldn’t you say?”
The two exchanged smirks, their partnership cemented in blood and deceit.
