Fifteen minutes later, Mila came out of the building alone.
Her heels clicked against the polished tiles of the lobby as she crossed back into the afternoon light. The glass doors slid open with a soft hiss.
The moment the sunlight hit her, Mila took a small breath, trying to collect herself.
Everything inside her was still swirling. The little electricity that clung to her skin after spending half the afternoon with Allen.
She spotted him instantly through the café window, exactly where she left him.
Allen didn’t move.
He sat there, perfectly composed as always. Tea half-finished, posture relaxed, one arm draped loosely along the back of the booth like he had no cares in the world. His calmness was almost unreal.
As Mila entered the café again, Allen’s eyes lifted.
Not rushed. Not eager. Just… deliberate.
He watched her approach with that same faint, unreadable smile. Like he’d been expecting her exact timing down to the second.
“You’re back,” he said softly.
“I told you I’d be fast.” Mila smiled awkwardly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Sorry it took a little longer.”
“You made excellent time,” Allen said, voice dipped in that smooth warmth that always made her stomach flip.
But then he stood. Slowly. Smoothly.
“We’re leaving,” he added.
Mila blinked, caught off guard. “Oh—okay.”
He didn’t elaborate. Just started walking.
Mila hurried to follow him out of the café. The afternoon sunlight hit them again as the door chimed behind them.
Right outside, Kai was waiting with the car, standing beside the back passenger door like clockwork.
Allen nodded slightly to Kai.
“Sir.” Kai bowed his head respectfully and opened the door.
Mila slipped in first, sliding into the back seat as Allen followed right after her.
As soon as the door closed, the noise of the city outside dulled into silence.
The luxury car hummed softly as Kai pulled away from the curb with his usual smooth precision.
And then — that thick tension returned.
Not because of anything they said.
Because of what neither of them said.
They were close now. Closer than earlier. But not quite touching.
Just enough distance that she could still feel the space between them.
And yet… that space was heavy.
Mila’s heart pounded again.
She tried to speak first, her voice light, trying to break that invisible weight. “Where are we going?”
Allen turned his head slightly, watching her with that sharp, quiet amusement that always made her nervous. The faintest smirk played on his lips.
“You’ll know soon enough,” he said softly. Then, after a brief pause, he added with that low, teasing tone that slid right under her skin.
The car rolled quietly through the city streets as the late afternoon sun cut long golden beams between the buildings.
And Allen? He simply watched her.
Not intensely. Not aggressively.
But with that calm, steady focus that made Mila feel like every little movement she made was being recorded.
His eyes dipped once — the briefest glance — down her legs, across her dress, before returning casually to meet her gaze.
Mila shifted slightly in her seat, crossing her legs without even meaning to. Her pulse quickened.
Allen smiled faintly, as if sensing her nervous energy. “Relax, Mila.”
She swallowed. “I’m trying.”
Then Allen’s voice dropped slightly lower. “You know…” He let the words float for a second. “You’ve gotten very good at keeping up with everything around me.”
Mila’s heart skipped.
“I-I’m trying my best.”
“You’re doing more than that,” he said smoothly. “I’m impressed.”
Mila flushed, her hands tightening slightly in her lap.
And then came the real game.
Allen didn’t lean in. Didn’t touch her. Didn’t even change his tone.
He simply let the silence grow just enough.
Let her feel the weight of his presence sitting right beside her — warm, heavy, almost pressing without physically closing the gap.
That was the trick with him.
He never forced.
He simply let gravity do the work.
Mila tried to steady her breathing, but it was useless. Her skin prickled under the weight of his nearness.
Allen’s gaze flicked out the window briefly before returning. “How’s your heart right now?” he asked softly, like it was a casual question.
Mila nearly choked. “W-What?”
He smiled gently. “Your heart. It’s racing, isn’t it?”
Mila could feel her face burning. “Y-You can’t know that.”
Allen chuckled under his breath, eyes glittering. “I don’t need to know. I can see it.”
She squeezed her thighs together slightly, trying to suppress the electric current running through her core.
The worst part? He was right.
Completely right.
And he wasn’t even doing anything.
The car continued to glide quietly through the streets, but the air between them only grew heavier with every passing moment.
Allen finally broke the silence again. “Do you know what I enjoy about moments like this, Mila?”
She shook her head, her voice nearly failing her. “W-What?”
“That I don’t have to touch you…” His voice dipped lower now, almost a whisper. “…and yet you still feel me.”
Mila’s breath caught entirely.
She gripped the edge of the leather seat lightly, her chest heaving slightly with every breath.
Allen smiled again, perfectly calm, perfectly in control.
Mila finally managed to squeak out, “You’re… mean.”
“Am I?” His voice was a smooth, dangerous purr. “I thought I was being very kind right now.”
Her cheeks flared a deeper red.
The car finally slowed as Kai smoothly turned into a private lot — but this wasn’t Allen’s residence wing this time.
Instead, Mila glanced out the window, blinking as she saw the polished gold sign glowing softly above the entryway: LUXÉ PRIVATE CINEMA.
A private luxury movie theater. One of those places where billionaires booked entire screening rooms — velvet recliners, crystal glasses, full-service waitstaff, custom food menus.
Her heart skipped.
But Allen still wasn’t done.
As the car rolled gently to a stop, he leaned in. His head tilted closer, breath warm against her ear — just enough for her skin to tingle beneath it. His voice barely above a whisper.
“Tell me if I’m wrong, Mila…”
