CREAK
The doors of the room opened as several individuals became visible.
These included two healers, two injured men, and a late middle-aged man. The man had a look of concern on his face as he gazed at the two injured men. If Lin Mu were present, he would quickly recognize who they were.
These were none other than the Inner Disciple Chiji Ou and Jilin Tu!
They had been beaten until they were black and blue, several of their bones shattered or cracked in multiple places, along with numerous flesh wounds. Their organs had also sustained serious damage from the impact of Lin Mu's attacks.
It was safe to say that their recovery would not be easy and would take a long time. This was evident from the many pills and elixirs they had been given, yet they had still not fully recovered.
"Master Nui!" The inner court disciple who had just rushed in shouted.
"Hmm? What is it?" The old man turned to look at the disciple.
"Information! We found the criminal!" the disciple quickly reported.
"What?" The old man's eyes went wide before he snatched the scroll from the disciple.
He quickly read the contents, his eyes gleaming.
"So that's where you were hiding, huh..." The old man smiled nefariously. "Now you won't be able to get away." He glanced at his two injured disciples.
"Should I get the team ready, Master?" the disciple asked.
"Do it," Master Nui ordered.
"When do we leave?" the disciple inquired.
"Right away!" the old man barked.
"Of course!" the disciple said before taking his leave.
The two healers looked at the old man before speaking.
"It's good that he was found. You have to bring the criminal to justice, Master Nui," one of the healers said.
"Indeed, we cannot let someone who commits such a grave offense roam free," the other healer added.
"I never intended to," the old man stated. "And when I'm done with him, I reckon the Healing Hall will have a new subject to experiment on." He smirked, making the two healers grin.
"Haha, of course. That will be perfect," the first healer replied.
"We have been lacking good subjects recently. If we get a strong one this time, we will be able to test out more experimental pills," the other healer laughed.
"Make sure to try out the harshest ones on him," Master Nui instructed.
"You have our word," the two healers said in unison.
"I'll take my leave now. Please take care of my disciples," Master Nui said with concern.
"We shall. That is, of course, our job," the healers assured as the old man exited.
Lin Mu, engrossed in his reading, had no idea of the threat approaching. He would have never thought that his location would be exposed in such a manner.
A day passed like this, and soon, night arrived. The two moons hung high in the sky, while the stars twinkled in all their glory.
Lin Mu and Meng Bai sat at the dinner table outside, enjoying their meal.
"This is so much better than the food we get in the city," Meng Bai said before an idea struck him. "Why don't you start a restaurant, Master?" he suddenly asked.
"A restaurant?" Lin Mu raised his brows.
"Yeah!" Meng Bai nodded enthusiastically. "Just think of how much money we could make. We can source our own ingredients, which would reduce costs. Plus, we have Little Shrubby to cook, so we wouldn't need to hire chefs. He can do the work of twenty people alone, anyway. And I can work as the waiter and serve food. With so many advantages, we'll be rich before we know it!" he said, his eyes gleaming with imagined gold coins.
"Haha, perhaps someday," Lin Mu chuckled.
"If we start one here, we'll definitely cut down the business of the other restaurants. Even the Four Fruits Restaurant might find it hard to challenge us," Meng Bai said, confident in his plan.
"The food at the Four Fruits Restaurant was rather nice, though," Lin Mu commented.
"You've been there!?" Meng Bai was shocked. "Isn't the food there super expensive!?" he asked.
"It is, yeah," Lin Mu nodded.
Compared to other places, it was certainly very expensive, and the quality was on par with the food he had eaten at the Imperial banquets with Crown Prince Feng Shun and Emperor Feng back in Dao Wind Capital.
"How was it? I heard the Ten Flower Beauties are really pretty too!" Meng Bai asked excitedly.
"I suppose. They do have good service," Lin Mu admitted.
"You met them too!?" Meng Bai was even more shocked.
He had assumed that Lin Mu had eaten in the lower floors of the restaurant, as even that was very expensive. The food in the higher floors only became more costly, and at the top, it was the most expensive of all. However, those who dined there also received the personal service of the Ten Flower Beauties.
It was the dream of countless men to have a meal there while enjoying the company of the Ten Flower Beauties.
"Yeah, I did," Lin Mu confirmed. "My friends took me there," he added.
"Whoa! Who's the prettiest among the Ten Flower Beauties?" Meng Bai asked eagerly. "I heard Miss Cherry and Miss Hellebore are the cutest." He added, though he had never seen them—rumors like that traveled quickly.
Lin Mu was perplexed about how to answer, as he hadn't given them much thought.
"Hmm... I don't know," Lin Mu replied.
"Why?" Meng Bai asked curiously.
"I didn't particularly find them interesting," Lin Mu admitted.
"But they are the Ten Flower Beauties!" Meng Bai exclaimed. "Even in the entire Shanxi Empire, one might struggle to find someone as beautiful as them."
CLANG
"Hmm… I've seen better," Lin Mu replied, making Meng Bai drop his spoon.
The boy couldn't believe his master's words as they were simply beyond him. It felt as if Lin Mu was saying Dragons and Phoenixes were the same as some common sheep and cows.
