Chapter 2941: Heading To The Xian Sword Sect
Meng Bai studied talisman inscriptions from a manual Daoist Chu had loaned him and made surprisingly good progress.
Daoist Chu, for his part, meditated constantly. His gaze often turned to the skies as if he was trying to look at the Immortal Court.
Perhaps he was already formulating how to explain what they had found in the Shadow Whisper Valley. He remained tight-lipped about it, but Lin Mu knew the man was weighing many possibilities.
Finally, the trio arrived at the edge of a vast golden plain.
From here, tall cliffs could be seen rising in the distance, their jagged forms piercing the clouds like divine swords. Atop those cliffs was a glowing silver peak, and upon it stood an immortal fortress built of sword-light and stone.
Even from afar, the aura of sword Qi radiated outward like waves across the heavens.
The Xian Sword Sect.
"We’re here," Daoist Chu said solemnly.
Meng Bai whistled. "That’s... intense."
Lin Mu took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing slightly.
The sect’s protective formations shimmered like mirrored veils around the cliffs. Sword intent hovered in the wind itself. Even birds gave the region a wide berth.
He knew that stepping into the territory of the Xian Sword Sect meant entering a stronghold where every disciple was trained in the way of the sword, where every rock and blade of grass had likely been sliced a thousand times in training.
This was not a place for the faint-hearted.
Still, Lin Mu was undaunted.
"So," Lin Mu said, turning to the others. "Shall we announce ourselves?"
Daoist Chu nodded. "Let me handle the formalities. It would be best not to provoke them unnecessarily. Especially with the way they view outsiders."
"Sounds good," Lin Mu said, brushing his robes straight.
As Daoist Chu activated a communication jade slip to send word of their arrival, Lin Mu’s gaze lingered on the distant cliffs.
The Xian Sword Sect.
He had heard many things about them—how their Patriarch had once split a mountain range with a single slash, how their inner sect disciples could duel Immortals a stage above them, how their sword manuals were considered sacred even by other great sects.
But beyond the rumors, Lin Mu was curious about one thing.
What would he learn from here?
Was it fate that led him here? Or simply a thread of karma he’d yet to unravel?
Whatever the case, he would find out.
Soon.
As the wind picked up, the glimmering fortress atop the cliffs shone even brighter, its blade-shaped spires casting long shadows over the land.
The journey was far from over.
It had only just begun.
Little Shrubby had returned to the Sleepscape just in case the sect was wary of a beast entering.
Crossing the shimmering boundary of the sect’s protective formation, the trio descended from the skies and passed through a layer of translucent light that rippled gently like water.
The moment they entered though, they found themselves soaring over the fortress they had seen from a distance—the proud bastion perched atop jagged cliffs.
To Lin Mu’s mild surprise, a group of patrolling disciples had already flown out to intercept them. Sword lights trailed behind the young men and women, and their long robes bore the sigil of a silver blade cleaving through clouds.
"Halt and identify yourselves!" the lead disciple called out, though his tone was respectful rather than hostile.
Daoist Chu stepped forward slightly, but Lin Mu raised his hand. "Allow me."
With a slight nod, Lin Mu retrieved a small jade token from his sleeve and held it up. The surface of the token shimmered faintly with golden lotus patterns and emitted a soothing aura of purity.
"I am Lin Mu, bearer of the Silent Lotus Temple. I come under peaceful terms."
The disciples’ eyes widened in realization.
"The bearer?" one of them murmured.
Another elbowed him before bowing deeply. "We pay our respects, Honored Bearer!"
The others quickly followed suit, their heads lowered and eyes reverent.
"It is an honor to welcome you to the Xian Sword Sect. Many of our elders and envoys have visited the Silent Lotus Temple to pay tribute over the centuries," said the leader of the group, a young man with sharp eyebrows and steady sword Qi flowing around him. "We did not expect your arrival, but we are humbled."
"There’s no need for such formality," Lin Mu replied calmly. "We come with goodwill."
The disciples exchanged quick glances, then gestured ahead. "Please, allow us to escort you to the inner territories. We’ll inform the sect elders of your arrival."
With that, they turned, and the group of cultivators flew together in formation.
As they flew, Lin Mu turned to the lead escort. "That fortress we saw before entering—is that your main sect?"
The young man laughed lightly. "Oh no, Honored Bearer. That is merely the Eastern Gate Fortress, one of our seven border outposts."
Lin Mu raised an eyebrow. "Outpost?"
"Yes," the disciple replied. "The Xian Sword Sect’s full territory spans nearly three hundred kilometers in radius. The fortress serves as our initial defense and watch post. It protects the border and monitors activity around the region."
Lin Mu looked down below.
Verdant forests, glimmering lakes, and jagged ridgelines stretched out across the landscape like a sacred painting. Mountain ranges layered one after another, their peaks capped with snow and shimmering Qi formations. Waterfalls sparkled like crystal threads from atop sheer cliffs, and sword-shaped boulders dotted the terrain, humming softly with intent.
There was an awe-inspiring beauty to the territory.
"Our main sect grounds are deeper within," the disciple continued. "We have cultivation fields, libraries, battle arenas, and sanctums scattered across the area. Some peaks are reserved for sword comprehension; others house rare sword spirits and legacy formations."
"Quite the empire you’ve built," Daoist Chu remarked with admiration.
Meng Bai, meanwhile, kept fidgeting as he flew. His fingers twitched, and his skin looked pale.
"Is it me," he muttered, "or does the air feel like a thousand needles trying to shave your soul?"
