World Keeper

Chapter 1193: Seeds of a Golden Future

For the next three days, during the rest of Lifre’s ‘vacation’, she holed herself up in her office, eagerly working on her new, secret project. Even Lena wasn’t informed about what she was doing, and was just told to wait and see it live with everyone else.

When her self-proclaimed vacation was over, she started up another stream, though she started in an empty, black void. “Alright, let’s give it a few minutes for everyone to come on in…” She muttered quietly, seeing her viewer count quickly climbing.

Once she was satisfied with her starter audience, she smiled brightly. “Good morning, slimeballs!” She called out in an energetic voice. “I’m sure you all are wondering why you’re not seeing the prologue of my next adventure, right? Don’t worry, I’m not announcing anything bad. Quite the opposite, really!”

“After logging off of my last stream, I had something of a realization. I’m sure most of you remember my domains, right? I am the Goddess of Trials, Adventure, and Heroes! I am also the Apostle of Terra, and hold a small part of her Stories domain as a bonus because we synergize super well.”

“Now, most of you don’t know this, but my favorite way of fighting is to summon characters from books that I’ve written. It feels so cool to see your creations come to life like that, right? Of course, normally this isn’t something that you advertise everywhere, but I’m letting all of you in on this for a very special reason.”

Lifre had a wide grin on her face as she made her big reveal. “From now on, I’ll be recording all of my streams using a divine technique I established over these last few days. Honestly, I was really cutting it close to get it set up in time, and barely managed to get my last stream archived with this ability.”

Watching the chat scroll past, Lifre nodded her head. “That’s right! From now on, all of you will have the chance to influence my future battles. You won’t just be creating a legend in this stream anymore, but you have the chance to create a legend that will influence the real world in times of crisis! If I one day turn into a super badass archmage to fight back an endless horde, you can look up and realize that you caused that to happen.”

“For that reason, I’m lifting all restrictions for the scale of effects that can be applied during the stream. If you want it, and chat’s pockets are deep enough, have at it! I am also giving chat more control over the stream’s theme. If you look, I’ve set up a poll for the next ten minutes, letting you all choose the theme of my next adventure. As always, if you want an option that isn’t listed, you can donate to have it added.”

Lena blinked as she watched the stream from her room, having not expected this kind of reveal. Naturally, she was aware that Lifre had been working on something lately, but she didn’t think that it would be something like this.

Would this even give her a powerful story? Lena questioned. Her last stream turned out so strong because of the white-gold class that was purchased, but that isn’t something she can expect all the time.

As the poll progressed, and the chat chose a high-fantasy adventure, Lena remembered something. Wait, Lifre doesn’t keep the profits of her stream. She has that lottery. Doesn’t that mean…

Lena’s eyes widened in realization. If her chat was more encouraged to spend the earnings they got from Lifre’s lottery, they could make bigger and bigger donations over time. Of course, all it would take is one person keeping the money for themselves to break the combo, but those eligible for the lottery in the first place were just those that created interesting content for the stream.

Now that they were told that their funds could actually shape the future of Lifre’s real world combat style, this gave everyone the chance to leave their mark on history. It wouldn’t be surprising if someone with too much money to burn ended up buying an incredibly expensive class or artifact for her.

Typically, it was impossible to take anything you gained inside of a stream out and into the real world. And, really, that was still the case. Lifre could not directly take anything out. According to Lifre’s guess, she must have set it up so that her artifact pen is automatically transcribing anything that happens in her stream into a book, and she will then use that book to summon an alternate version of herself as the ‘hero’ of that story.

Doing things this way would burn quite a lot of divinity, depending on the scale of the story, as well as the strength of the powers depicted. If Lifre was doing this, she must have been confident that she would be able to afford the cost by taking advantage of all of the attention on her during the stream itself. Did she set it up so that all of the divinity she would be earning naturally during her stream is channeled into her pen?

That was the only way that Lena could imagine Lifre being able to set this up in only three days. And if that was the case, she could understand why Lifre was doing all of this. It was a rather unique twist on streaming, and she didn’t think anyone had taken this route before, given the strict requirements to do so. Of course, now that the possibility was made public, there would probably be some smaller streamers appearing that try to copy her with limited success.

As she was thinking that, Lena noticed a flash of gold in the stream. After the high-fantasy setting had been chosen, people were already making gold-level donations, giving her advanced magic spells and an influential background. Lena tried to keep count of all the donations coming in, her eyes slowly widening.

By the time her adventure began, Lifre had been granted the title of a court wizard of an influential kingdom, a master of runic spells. So far, this wasn’t that different from Lifre’s real world abilities, but everything changed after the first lottery.

One hour into the stream, several white gold coins were awarded to the man who created Lifre’s backstory. And while chat was congratulating him for the win, he immediately spent it all on a single donation, enhancing Lifre’s mage class.

Her class, formerly Rune Mage, had been changed to Wordcaster. The difference was subtle, but also incredibly powerful. Lena had to read over the description multiple times to ensure that she understood everything. There is a power in words. The Wordcaster’s magic goes beyond the normal limits of runes, able to manifest profound effects with a single rune.

To demonstrate this ability, Lifre used the rune for ‘shield’, erecting a barrier that covered an entire city. This barrier withstood the assault of a monster stampede, allowing the city’s adventurers to safely fight beyond its walls.

Okay… maybe this will grow stronger than I expected.

Back in Julia’s room, she was putting the finishing touches on her automatic seed processors. With Aurivy’s help, she had created a root network within a large facility, which channeled the power of seeds placed at specific points and gradually merged them into one. Using this process, she had finally been able to create a true divine seed, bestowing on it the ‘Wood’ domain.

In order to bestow a domain onto a seed during its creation, she had to carve the domain into the seed as it formed, writing it in divine script. Thankfully, the roots of an ancestor tree were excellent energy conductors, so she was able to carry out the process smoothly.

With her source of divine seeds finally secured, she could begin creating more powerful plants. The first thing she did was to make a seed with the ‘Earth’ domain, and combined it with a tree in one of her planets that was adept at dispersing energy into the soil via its roots. This combination yielded a divine tree that enriched the soil around it, allowing for the growth of more divine plants.

Afterwards, she spread this tree out to hundreds of planets, creating golden forests of divinity. Once this was done, she truly began to feel like she had reached a new level of power. She made special flowers and vines, and took the fruits of her trees to start experimenting with new elixirs. While she couldn’t directly manifest these elixirs into the real world, what she could do was combine them back with another plant to bestow the finished product onto the fruit.

This allowed her to prepare wondrous fruits, which contained properties such as permanently enhancing one’s energy, or temporarily bestowing them with a specific domain. She even created a yellow berry that could release a massive explosion after it was removed from its flowering plant and thrown.

However, with every success came numerous failures. She had accidentally created a plant-like monster that devoured all nearby foliage, taking their powers for its own when trying to create a divinity-draining vine. Another failure was in her alchemy experiments, wherein she created a fruit similar to an apple. If you accidentally ingested one of the seeds of the apple when eating it, it would take root in your body, using your own energy as fuel to grow into a new tree, erupting from your soon-to-be corpse.

Granted, some of these failures could have alternate uses in the future, but these were certainly not the results that Julia was hoping for when conducting her experiments. Despite knowing her potential in warfare, Julia was ultimately more interested in how her powers could benefit people.

Thus, she was determined to spend the rest of her time until this invasion studying her newfound abilities, determining the best way to use them. And, during this time, she may release several of the more common beneficial plants onto the market, helping others in the process.

We’re ready. Terra’s voice suddenly spoke in my ear, and I realized what she meant. The preparations had been made with Ashley and the others to finally get rid of the karma system. With a nod, I rose from my seat and ascended to the Admin Room, finding Terra waiting for me in the living room with a smile.

“Ashley has already released a public notice to warn people of the upcoming change. At the same time, she’s set up a script that will give everyone a one-time adjustment to their Luck and Charm stats based on their current karma values. Aside from that, the only necessary preparation is the bonus for Elisae to prevent the human empire from collapsing. Ashley announced it as a special blessing for those with truly exceptional karma.”

As Terra explained that, she held out a piece of paper for me, which detailed the blessing, as well as its cost of five thousand points. Slightly expensive for a personal blessing, but pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things.

This was a blessing that Terra had named ‘Font of Fortune’. To replicate the effects of Elisae’s current karma, it would cause her to passively influence the Luck stats of those who interact with her, whether directly or indirectly. Those who cause damage or distress to her would suffer a Luck debuff, while those who helped her would get a subsequent buff. The primary difference between the current system and this was that these alterations were only temporary, and would slowly disappear over time. Though, those who kept helping her would continue to receive the benefits.

With a small nod, I had Terra send the signal for Ashley to run her script, and then pulled the trigger on deleting the karma system from my worlds.
