When Zac and Ming Lan headed back to the mansion where they were staying for their honeymoon period. Ming Lan, still shocked by the revelation she had received earlier that day, was staring at the handsome man driving the car on the quiet street in the middle of the night.
Sensing her gaze on him, he spoke, "Are you that happy to know you were the one I loved all these years?"
"Shouldn’t I be?" she replied. "I can’t believe how silly everything has been and how we missed so many years."
"That’s why I am making up for all of it, keeping you awake every single day and night," he replied with a light chuckle.
"If I had known there was one desirable, handsome, and capable man who loves me like crazy, I wouldn’t have shed tears thinking no one ever took a liking to me."
Wen Zac raised a brow. "Are you certain there was no one who took a liking to you, being the only daughter of the Ming family?"
"Were there? Other than you?" she asked.
"Guess," he teased.
Ming Lan narrowed her eyes at him. "Don’t tell me you did something to drive them away." "Your brother was in on it as well," Zac added, as if it was something to boast about.
She sighed helplessly. "And here all these years, I was thinking I was not likable enough. You two friends are mean."Zac chuckled. "That was to protect you from the wrong people and to leave you only for me." "Brother Rusheng was so salty with you today that I can’t believe he orchestrated things with you, leaving his sister miserable to think not a single man in interested in her."
"No brother can handle his sister being f... I mean, you know, being intimate with another man...."
"Yeah, I can clearly understand it now. More than friends, you two were like mortal enemies just because of me."
"It’s just for the show. He is more than happy that you are with me, or he would have beaten me up the day I told him I like you," Wen Zac explained.
Ming Lan realized something, "That’s what I wanted to ask. What was my brother’s reaction when you told him?"
"Umm... that day, we were drinking together. After a few pegs, all of a sudden, I felt like I should tell him. It was not because he was your brother, but he is my closest friend and I wished to share this important matter with him. When I said that I am in love with someone, he simply asked who, and I told him it’s your sister."
"Then?"
"There was a dead silence for about two, three minutes before he finally looked at me and asked, ’Are you serious about this?"" Wen Zac laughed a little, "Of course, I was dead serious, and I told him I intend to marry you. It was not all of a sudden, but I had liked you for a while already. He told me to confess to you and if you agreed, then he had no objection."
"That’s it? He agreed?"
"He did, and that’s how I ended up confessing to you that day."
"My brother who was highly protective and possessive over me, agreed just like that? He sure thinks highly of you."
"We are best friends for a reason."
"I am happy my brother agreed. He must really know well what kind of a man is best for me."
Wen Zac turned to look at her, "So I am best for you?"
She smiled pleasantly, "You sure are."
"This best man wished to be treated to something special tonight," Wen Zac hinted.
Ming Lan didn’t shy away. "Once we reach home."
As she was the woman he had given his heart to and there was no one else, there was nothing for her to worry now.
Lu Lijun reached home. It was late, but the butler informed him that Lu Jinhai was waiting for him in the study. Lu Lijun turned to Jiang Yuyan, "You can go ahead. I will go talk to my father."
Jiang Yuyan nodded and left to go upstairs, while Lu Lijun went to his father’s study. Entering the study, Lu Lijun saw his father sitting in the chair, glasses settled on the bridge of his sharp nose as he went through the file.
"Father, you asked for me?" Lu Lijun asked.
Lu Jinhai looked at him. "Have a seat."
Lu Lijun sat in the chair. "Father, you shouldn’t work so late."
"It’s alright once in a while," Lu Jinhai said, putting the file back on the table. "We have a board meeting the day after tomorrow. You know the reason."
"Yes, father."
"There might be some issues. You have to be ready for them."
"Yes, father. Rest assured."
Lu Jinhai removed his glasses, indicating a shift to a more serious topic. "What are your plans regarding Yuyan?" Lu Jinhai asked.
"For now, nothing," he replied honestly. "First, I wish to focus on resolving the trouble brewing towards our family and Yuyan."
"I understand your concern, and you might be fine with the current situation, but it’s not the same for others," Lu Jinhai added. "Her parents might not be pleased with this, though they agree for you two to be together. As parents, they might want their daughter to settle with
Certainty."
"I understand. I will talk to them once I take control over the things in the company," Lu Lijun replied. "I do plan to marry her, and it will happen soon."
"That’s good to know."
There was a knock on the door of the study, and Ning Jiahui entered. She was surprised to see Lu Lijun there. "Here I thought I should ask you to tell your father not to work so late, but it seems both father and son are in it together."
Lu Lijun kept quiet while Lu Jinhai stood up from his chair. "Apologies, Mrs. Lu. I was just about to return."
Ning Jiahui looked at Lu Lijun. "You should sleep early as well. Stop absorbing your father’s
Bad habits."
"Yes, mother."
Lu Lijun returned to the room where Jiang Yuyan was waiting for him, sitting in the chair. He sat next to her and explained to her what he had discussed with his father. "Father had discussed it with me yesterday, and we agreed on it," she replied. "I will hand over my resignation letter tomorrow," she informed him.
"There’s no hurry. In the board meeting, I want you to sit as the existing president of Lu Corporation. Once everything goes smoothly, you can proceed with the resignation."
Jiang Yuyan could only agree and smiled at him. "Finally, the day is here when I wanted to see
You sitting in that chair."
He caressed her hair gently. "Are you that happy?"
She nodded happily. "Lu Qiang and I thought of this day. He would be happy to see his wish
Being fulfilled."
"I will fulfill everything that you and my brother have ever wished for."
"I know," she said, and hugged him gently.
She was glad and thankful toward him that he didn’t disappoint his family who had put their hopes in him and he had turned out far better than they could even wish for.
She could not wait for him to officially take his brother’s place and take charge of everything.
