One morning, several months later.

The sun still hadn't yet risen over the city walls, yet the streets of Nine Origins City were already teeming with pedestrians.

In contrast with the high-pace lifestyle normally on display in the city, all of the pedestrians on this day were looking very lax and casual, either strolling around at a leisurely place or loitering and chatting with one another.

Many of them had expectant looks on their faces as they occasionally glanced up at the sky, seemingly waiting for something.

In the crowd was a handsome, white-robed young man who was slowly making his way deeper into the city while eavesdropping on the conversations taking place around him.

The young man was none other than Han Li, having adopted a disguise with his newly acquired black mask.

"I heard that the immortal envoys from the Middle Earth Immortal Region are a huge deal. Not only do they have countless servants with them, even the palace master of our Golden Origin Immortal Palace is personally accompanying them," a brown-robed elderly man said.

"They're immortal envoys from the Heavenly Court, so of course they're treated with the utmost respect. Otherwise, there's no way they would've been personally welcomed by Daoist Master Chun Jun of our Nine Origins Temple. Besides, they've come here to present Bodhi Tokens, which are highly sought after even among Great Encompassment cultivators, so of course everyone's sucking up to them!" a middle-aged man in a brocade robe said.

"What I wouldn't give for a Bodhi Token," someone else sighed in an envious manner.

Han Li continued onward without pause, listening to all of the nearby conversations, but refraining from taking part in them himself.

Right at this moment, an excited voice rang out in the crowd.

"Here they come!"

A disturbance instantly swept over the entire street as everyone stopped talking and looked up into the sky.

Han Li also stopped in his tracks to look up into the heavens above the city gates, where a vast expanse of radiant, golden light had appeared, as if the sun were rising from that direction.

The golden light was bordered by a ring of rainbow light, and there were large, five-colored clouds converging in the sky even further away.

Everyone looked up until their necks were feeling a little stiff and their eyes were beginning to water from the golden radiance, but no one appeared.

Right as someone was about to complain, a layer of rainbow light suddenly appeared over the horizon, then approached the city before spreading over the city wall and spilling into the city.

An opening that was around a thousand feet wide appeared in the city's protective array to grant the rainbow light free passage, and it formed a wide path.

A series of five-colored lotus flower projections appeared over the path, giving off a fragrant aroma that spread over virtually the entire city.

The sound of thunderous rumbling then rang out as eight qilins clad in suits of golden armor came galloping over the path, dragging along an excessively massive chariot behind them.

The chariot resembled an extremely lavish and intricately constructed pavilion, and behind the chariot was an army of horseback warriors clad in suits of golden armor and immortal cultivators.

There were far fewer of them than the exaggerated rumors had suggested, but it was still certainly a very formidable army.

Standing behind the white jade railing at the front of the chariot was a tall man in heavenly official attire. His face was rather square in shape, and he had a pair of long and thin eyes, coupled with a tall nose and a pair of thin lips.

Han Li was not very fond of the arrogant look on the man's face, and he was just about to turn and depart when he noticed the two figures standing behind the man.

One of them was a man with an unremarkable physical appearance and a placid expression, someone that could easily be lost in a crowd. If it weren't for his Immortal Palace attire, it would've been very difficult to draw a connection between him and Lu Chuanfeng, the master of the greater Golden Origin Immortal Palace.

The woman standing beside him was far more eye-catching. Not only was she exceptionally beautiful, her breathtaking figure was highlighted by her vibrant, red dress, and she instantly became the center of attention.

Chi Meng?

Han Li was rather taken aback to see this.

Right at this moment, around a dozen figures descended onto the path of light.

Compared with the immortal envoys and their impressive entourage, these people were made to appear far less remarkable, but as soon as they appeared, the entire city instantly erupted into thunderous cheers.

The group of new arrivals was led by a male figure dressed in a dark green daoist robe with a lotus flower hat on his head. His facial features weren't spectacular, but his face was glowing with vitality and exuberance, and it was immediately apparent to Han Li that this was most likely the abbot of the Nine Origins Temple, Daoist Master Chun Jun.

Trailing along behind him were two more daoist priests, one of whom was quite thin, with high cheekbones and a goatee. His eyes were incredibly clear and bright, and even though he was wearing a very old and worn gray daoist robe, there was a special, profound aura about him.

The other man was quite burly in stature and appeared to be around forty years of age. He was wearing an extremely opulent purple daoist robe, and his head was unadorned with any daoist hats. His face was very chiseled and angular, and it was completely expressionless, giving him the appearance of a daoist deity statue.

Given how close they were standing to Daoist Master Chun Jun, it stood to reason that they were most likely the two assistant abbots of the Nine Origins Temple.

Han Li didn't know much about the two of them. All he knew was that the gray-robed elderly man's name was Yang Junzi, while the purple-robed man was referred to as Daoist Master Lei Jun.

The dozen or so people standing behind them all had respectful looks on their faces, and among them was a familiar face for Han Li, namely Immortal Lord Miao Fa.

At this point, Miao Fa had already caught sight of Chi Meng standing behind the immortal envoy, and the two of them were staring daggers at each other.

It was clear that they had developed a great deal of resentment toward each other during their failed attempt to capture Han Li.

"Welcome, Immortal Envoy Feng Tian," Daoist Master Chun Jun said in a warm voice, and the two men began to engage in some small talk.

......

Han Li immediately lost interest upon seeing this, and he made his back to the inn.

He had only just returned to his own courtyard when he noticed a tall young man and a young woman wearing a veiled bamboo hat standing at the entrance, seemingly waiting for him.

Han Li's brows furrowed slightly at the sight of the two figures, and he didn't say anything.

"You're not going to invite us in for some tea, Fellow Daoist Dragon 5?" the woman asked with a bright smile.

"You're Fellow Daoist Wyrm 3?" Han Li asked.

"The immortal envoy of the Heavenly Court has already arrived, so it's time for me to divulge to you the contents of the mission," the woman said.

"Alright, please come in," Han Li said as he swept a sleeve through the air to open up the restriction at the entrance of the courtyard, and the three of them made their way inside before sitting down around a table.

Han Li noticed that the tall man had been staring directly at him ever since he entered the courtyard, and that he was making no attempt to hide his direct scrutiny.

"Who is this, Fellow Daoist Wyrm 3?" Han Li asked.

"He's one of the assistant palace masters of our Reincarnation Palace, Fellow Daoist Wu Yang," Wyrm 3 replied.

Han Li's expression instantly changed slightly upon hearing this name.

"It seems that you know of me," the young man said.

"I saw a portrait of you in the True Mantra Sect ruins, and I also heard about you from Fellow Daoist Hot Flame," Han Li explained.

"Hot Flame? Are you referring to that scoundrel's disciple?" Wu Yang asked as a hint of a fury appeared in his eyes.

"There's no need to harbor any animosity toward Fellow Daoist Hot Flame. He didn't betray the sect with Qi Mozi, and he's already met his demise in the Gray Realm," Han Li said.

Wu Yang's expression eased slightly upon hearing this, and he asked, "I heard from Jiuzhen that Qi Mozi almost died by your hands, is that right?"

Han Li had never heard the name Gan Jiuzhen, so he didn't know that it was Wyrm 3 that was being referred to here, and only after a brief hesitation did he make the connection, upon which he nodded as he replied, "I managed to defeat him thanks to some strokes of fortune, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to kill him."

"So you really are in possession of the Great Five Elemental Illusion Mantra, is that right?" Wu Yang suddenly asked, and the atmosphere in the room instantly became rather tense.

Han Li was silent for a moment, following which he replied, "Do you want it? If so, I can give it to you."

Wu Yang was rather taken aback to hear this, clearly not expecting Han Li to be so willing to part with the cultivation art.

"The Great Five Elemental Illusion Mantra belongs to the True Mantra Sect to begin with, and I can only be considered to be half a disciple to Patriarch Miro. You are the true heir to the True Mantra Sect, so returning the cultivation art to you would serve as repayment to Patriarch Miro for the instruction that he has provided me," Han Li said in a forthcoming manner.

A hint of guilt flashed through Wu Yang's eyes upon hearing this, and only after a long silence did he reply, "It's fine, I'll entrust the Great Five Elemental Illusion Mantra to you. Make sure to keep it safe."

A perplexed look appeared on Han Li's face upon hearing this, and Wu Yang explained with a wry smile, "Aside from Qi Mozi, all of my other martial brothers have already perished to defend the sect, so the fact that I'm still alive means that I've already betrayed the sect. On top of that, I haven't even been able to kill Qi Mozi for betraying our master, so what right do I have to inherit the Great Five Elemental Illusion Mantra?"

Han Li wanted to try and convince Wu Yang to reconsider, but the latter raised a hand as he said in a firm manner, "I've already made up my mind, so there's no need to try and dissuade me."

"In that case, I'll hold onto the cultivation art for now, and I'll return it to you if you ever want to resurrect the True Mantra Sect," Han Li acquiesced.
