Chapter 2218 – Fierce Waves

Ku Zhen’s demand seemed to come out of nowhere. Many of the gathered higher-ups paused, stunned, then frowned.

It would have been obvious that Third Elder Ku Zhen was seizing this opportunity for further questioning. He wouldn’t let Xiao Jian off so easily!

Many of the onlookers were displeased. They were entertaining guests from outside the sect, yet now, the third elder was targeting one of their own. How was that proper?

“Fellow Daoist Qi Wei said everything I wanted to say.” Su Yi gazed coolly at Ku Zhen. “How is it any of your business why I bought Unfettered Wanderer?”

With that question, he’d effectively cast aside all pretenses of cordiality with Ku Zhen. He wasn’t being the least bit polite.

“You…” Ku Zhen’s embarrassment turned to fury, and his face contorted.

A junior like Xiao Jian was talking back to him in front of a crowd. How was he supposed to maintain his dignity after that?

The grand elder snorted coldly. “Third Elder, you really are being rude. How many disciples do we have in our sect? Surely you don’t ask them all to justify their purchases to you?”

His tone was dripping with mockery. This was a clear rebuke.

“That’s not at all what I meant,” said Ku Zhen, his expression darkening. “It’s just that Unfettered Wanderer…”

But before he could explain, Sect Leader Liang Lingxu said, “Enough. Mind your behavior, and don’t ruin our distinguished guests’ good time!”

Ku Zhen’s expression shifted erratically, but in the end, he said nothing.

Su Yi said nothing either, but in his heart, he’d made up his mind to find an opportunity to get rid of the third elder. The old man’s like a lingering ghost. He won’t leave me alone, and he’s making no attempt to conceal his enmity for me.

Who knows how much trouble he’ll cause for me if I don’t get rid of him?

This little interlude made Lu Qingmei frown; she realized that this wasn’t a good time to push for answers about Unfettered Wanderer. If she tried, she’d only provoke the experts of Qingwu Divine Court.

That little girl sure showed up at just the right moment. Lu Qingmei glanced at Qi Wei, who was seated beside Su Yi. She was inwardly furious.

Qi Wei’s sudden arrival had ruined her attempt to probe Xiao Jian for answers. Of course Lu Qingmei was furious. How could she not be?

Qi Wei seemed to sense something, as she suddenly looked at Lu Qingmei and smiled. “Senior, forgive my boldness, but why are you so interested in Unfettered Wanderer?”

Lu Qingmei flashed her a charming smile. “My affairs are none of your business. You’re just too young. You have no idea what that broken sword represents. If your father were here, I might well be able to discuss it with him.”

In other words, “You’re just a junior, and you’re unworthy of discussing such things with me.”

Qi Wei froze, then smiled. “I don’t know what Unfettered Wanderer means to you, Senior, but I do know a little about your relationship with Yi Daoxuan.”

Lu Qingmei’s beautiful eyes instantly frosted over. A formless, invisible pressure permeated the banquet hall.

The attendees stiffened. All of them looked stricken.

Only now did Lu Qingmei display the true, terrifying majesty of an unparalleled Master Goddess. A single change in her expression was enough to make the crowd’s hearts quiver!

Qi Wei’s delicate frame silently tensed, but outwardly, she maintained her smile. She was unwilling to back down even in the face of Lu Qingmei.

Su Yi felt a bit strange. He was the reincarnation of Yi Daoxuan, yet now, these two women were at each other’s throats on Yi Daoxuan’s account. It really was a strange feeling.

Second High Elder Bai Liyun tried to play peacemaker. “Children don’t know any better. Fellow Daoist, please just laugh it off. What need is there to take offense?”

Lu Qingmei smiled. “When a child doesn’t know better, they need discipline. Otherwise, they’ll cause trouble all over the place, and they’ll even need their seniors to wipe their butts for them.”

She gazed intently at Qi Wei. “Little girl, I can tell that you’re on guard against me, and that you dislike me. I truly don’t understand. Why are you behaving like this?”

A moment later, she retracted her gaze and said calmly, “But then, none of that matters. I just want to say is that if you don’t learn your place, don’t blame me for helping your seniors discipline you.”

Qi Wei’s pupils constricted. How could she miss the implied warning?

But then, an aged voice rang out from beyond the hall. “It’s been a long time, Blue Rose Demon Master. Have you really become so petty as to make trouble for a junior like our young mistress since the last time we met?”

The crowd looked over in astonishment. They weren’t sure when she’d gotten there, but a decrepit old woman had appeared just outside the hall.

With her hunched back and a face covered in wrinkles, she looked ordinary, like just another unassuming old woman.

However, when Lu Qingmei saw her, her eyes widened with surprise. “You’ve been here this entire time?”

“This old woman came here to escort the young mistress safely to her destination. I have no intention of disturbing you any longer. In fact, I was just preparing to leave,” said the old woman standing in the doorway. She seemed to have no intention of coming inside. “But what you said just now displeased me, Blue Rose Demon Master. Even if my young mistress errs, it’s not an outsider’s place to discipline her.”

She raised her turbid eyes and locked onto Lu Qingmei. “Don’t you think so, Blue Rose Demon Master?”

A deathly silence descended over the crowd. The higher-ups of Qingwu Divine Court were bewildered.

Su Yi was surprised too; he hadn’t anticipated that the old woman accompanying Qi Wei would dare publicly oppose Lu Qingmei.

Lu Qingmei’s expression recovered its usual unrippling calm. “Very well, I shan’t pursue the child’s rudeness any further. Should I need to take this up with someone, I’ll take it up with the Qilin Race directly.”

Her attitude was similarly domineering and intimidating. The atmosphere within the banquet hall was suddenly as tense as could be.

Outside the hall, the old woman inclined her head. “We’ll naturally be prepared to welcome you at any time, Blue Rose Demon Master.”

The old woman looked at Qi Wei. “Young Mistress, it’s time this old woman set off. Otherwise, I’m afraid I’ll overstay my welcome. Please, come out for a moment. I have something to say to you.”

With that, she silently vanished from view.

Qi Wei rose and left the hall.

From beginning to end, the hosts, the gods of Qingwu Divine Court, could only watch. All of them felt quite conflicted.

They really couldn’t afford to offend their distinguished guests. Even if they behaved wantonly in the sect’s territory, it… was completely understandable.

Even Second High Elder Bai Liyun was tolerating it in silence!

“Enough. Let’s end the banquet here,” Bai Liyun said with a wave.

The discussion of the broken sword, Unfettered Wanderer, had created an invisible storm. Even the young mistress of the Qilin Race and her elderly attendant had gotten involved. No one could have anticipated this.

Lu Qingmei’s attitude in particular left ample room for thought.

From the outside, Su Yi barely seemed involved. Only he knew that, in truth, Unfettered Wanderer was just a ruse. This storm was actually targeting him!

Ku Zhen had spoken up because of him. The same was true for Lu Qingmei, and even Qi Wei.

It was just that Qi Wei’s arrival had thrown the storm into disarray.

……

The night was dark and quiet save for the chirping of insects.

“Young Mistress, you were a bit reckless just now. Lu Qingmei is an unparalleled demoness, the type to kill a man without even blinking. If she targets you, even if she doesn’t attack personally, she naturally has the means to make you suffer.”

The old woman sighed. “How extraordinary and unique of an expert was Yi Daoxuan back then? Don’t forget that he almost died by that demoness’s hands.”

Qi Wei’s eyes flashed. “I know what I’m doing, Granny. I was just probing to see if she knows who Xiao Jian really is or not. Besides, I find it hard to believe that she’d dare to kill me over a few words.

“You wouldn’t agree to that, and neither would my father or grandfather.” Qi Wei smiled. “And if my little aunt found out, she’d be sure to go after Lu Qingmei first thing.”

The old woman felt a headache coming on. Her father, grandfather, and lawless little aunt have spoiled her rotten!

Qi Wei hooked her arm around the old woman’s, then said appeasingly, “Rest assured, Granny. I’m not stupid enough to provoke a Nine-Tribulation Master God. I’ll just stay in Qingwu Divine Court from now on, so I won’t have any future interactions with the Blue Rose Demon Master anyway.”

The old woman mulled that over, then said, “When Hua Hongzhen of Qingwu Divine Court returns, you have to leave immediately.”

“Why?” asked Qing Wei.

The old woman didn’t explain. She just said, “Hua Hongzhen is a true, unparalleled elite, and he’s… far too dangerous!”

The old woman paused, then said solemnly, “On this, you must follow my arrangements!”

Qi Wei was a bit stunned, but she nonetheless nodded.

……

Little Pine Peak.

“Satisfying! Truly satisfying! You single-handedly turned the tides, dazzling the entire audience. Even the sect master’s attitude toward you changed.

“Did you notice? Even the grand elder tried to appeal to you. He wants to rope you in!

“Hahaha! Xiao Jian, I knew I wasn’t wrong about you. You’re an unparalleled figure. It isn’t always obvious, but the moment you take action, it’s sure to be shocking!”

Ninth Elder Tie Wenjing was exuberant, and the words just kept flowing out of him. He was obviously beside himself with joy.

Su Yi just sat on the sidelines, drinking and listening with a smile.

Throughout Qingwu Divine Court, Tie Wenjing was the only person who was truly kind to him.

“But I wouldn’t have guessed that the Blue Rose Demon Master would be so interested in Unfettered Wanderer,” said Tie Wenjing, suddenly a bit apologetic. “Had I known, I wouldn’t have said anything.”

The whole storm began when Tie Wenjing brought the sword up in a bid to reclaim it from the grand elder. Thus, Tie Wenjing had quite a guilty conscience.

“It’s fine.” Su Yi waved the apology away. “This is Qingwu Divine Court territory. An outsider like Lu Qingmei won’t act up here.”

Tie Wenjing visibly relaxed. “Tomorrow morning, I’ll bring you to Spirit Bamboo Peak. No one will dare believe you’re unqualified to reside there after this.”

Su Yi smiled and agreed. Shortly after, Tie Wenjing bade farewell and left.

Su Yi, meanwhile, headed out of the immortal cave. He wanted to go out, clear his head, and relax.

After today’s incident, he sensed a whiff of danger. Lu Qingmei had come prepared, and Qi Wei had obviously come here on his account, too.

The incident at the banquet arose on his account. Even if the Qingwu Divine Court higher-ups didn’t realize what was amiss, they were long-experienced old-timers. How could they fail to pick up any of the hints?

It was even entirely possible that people would start suspecting him all over again!

Lu Qingmei really is like a stubborn, lingering ghost! Just what is she doing here? Why did she come to Qingwu Divine Court?

As Su Yi pondered, he reached a spot halfway up the cliffside.

There, he spotted an entirely unexpected yet familiar figure!
