Chapter 1139: 1138 You are not mad at me anymore?

“President Wen, Tongtong and I will go straight home without going to the hospital.”

On this end, Bai Yiyi hugged Tongtong and got into the car, seeing Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei also getting into the car, she spoke to Wen Jin, who got into the passenger seat.

“Yiyi, are you not going to the hospital?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Bai Yiyi somewhat surprised.

“No, Tongtong has fallen asleep, I’ll take her home to sleep.”

Bai Yiyi smiled faintly, her excuse was reasonable, but in reality, she didn’t want to encounter Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei together. If they were going back to the hospital, and she followed to the hospital, she would have to face them again in Wen Ran’s hospital room.

Such a scene always felt awkward.

Wen Jin smiled gently, “Alright, Qing Yang, let’s take Yiyi home first, then we can head back to the hospital.”

After he instructed Qing Yang beside him, Bai Yiyi, whose thoughts were messy, didn’t ask her, “Why didn’t your mom come back with you?”

“My mom came back with Li En.”

“Wasn’t Li En escorted back to the country?”

Bai Xiaoxiao frowned in confusion, wondering how her mom could have come back with Li En.

As Qing Yang started the car and hit the road, Bai Yiyi lowered her gaze, her eyes resting on the sleeping face of Tongtong in her arms, her voice somewhat ethereal in the car, “My mom always felt that Li En becoming so radical was largely her responsibility, so she asked the police to let her come back with Li En.”

“Yiyi, Li En didn’t hurt you, did he?”

Seeing a faint sadness in Bai Yiyi’s expression, Bai Xiaoxiao blinked and asked with concern.

“No, right when we arrived in D Country, Fang Zhiwei saw us, and he didn’t even have the chance to hurt me.”

Bai Yiyi forced a smile, a reassuring one.

If it weren’t for Fang Zhiwei, she would have found a way to take Tongtong and Momo and leave, but it would have probably taken more time, or perhaps, would have come at a cost.

Regardless, this time, she ought to thank Fang Zhiwei.

Not just her, even Gu Kai was treating Fang Zhiwei well, seemingly reverting back to how things were before, far from the anger he displayed when he mentioned Fang Zhiwei that day.

A vision of Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei together floated before her eyes; Bai Yiyi unconsciously furrowed her brows, dispelling the image from her mind, and raised her hand to gently stroke Tongtong’s cheek.

Beside her, Bai Xiaoxiao’s phone rang, she hastily took it out from her bag, worried about waking up Tongtong, and without checking the caller ID, she answered.

“Hello!”

“Xiaoxiao, it’s me.”

On the other end, a neglected yet familiar voice transmitted through the signal, sounding incredibly clear in the quiet car.

The voice registered, and Bai Xiaoxiao’s heart skipped for a second, her grip on the phone suddenly tightened; her expression changed, she pursed her lips and asked coldly, “What is it?”

“Xiaoxiao, I heard Mo Xiuchen is arriving in G City tonight, you and Ranran must have gone to the airport to pick him up, right? Have they arrived yet?”

Luo Haofeng wanted to continue, but the coldness in Bai Xiaoxiao’s voice caught in his throat; after a few seconds of silence on the other end, he found an excuse to ask her about Momo.

Bai Xiaoxiao turned to look out of the car window, the neon lights of G City flickered in the deep night, not as noisy as during the day, but not lonely either.

Yet deep inside, she felt an inexplicable loneliness.

“We’re on our way back to the hospital now, Mo Xiuchen and Ranran are in a separate car, if you have something to discuss, you can call Mo Xiuchen directly.”

Since fate decreed they were not destined to be together, it was best not to entangle any further.

Originally abroad, Bai Xiaoxiao had learned that Wen Ran had a premature childbirth of Ziyi and Momo, yet she was unaware of the reason behind the premature birth.

A few days ago, when she returned to the country, she discovered that the person who caused Ranran’s premature delivery was Luo Haofeng’s mother. If it hadn’t been for Ranran risking her own pregnant body to grab hold of Mother Luo, her mother might have been disfigured, or even worse, might have been stabbed to death by that crazy woman.

Even if Bai Xiaoxiao were unfilial, she couldn’t help but resent a woman who hurt her mother.

“Alright.”

Another silence followed, after which Luo Haofeng’s voice came through, tinged with a trace of desolation.

Bai Xiaoxiao pursed her lips and hung up the phone.

**

Qin Mu’s car was separated by another vehicle from the one driven by Qing Yang.

An Lin was sitting in the passenger seat, her body lazily leaning against the backrest, slightly turned, her gaze resting on Qin Mu’s large hands gripping the steering wheel.

His hands were slender and pale, with distinct knuckles.

As An Lin watched, she became entranced, her thoughts drifting far away, traveling back through time to her childhood.

Qin Mu glanced at her dazed expression in the rearview mirror, his handsome brows furrowing slightly. After a moment, seeing that An Lin was still lost in thought, he could no longer hold back and said, “Your phone is vibrating.”

An Lin uttered an “Ah,” blinked blankly, then came back to her senses and quickly lowered her head to retrieve her phone from her bag and check the message.

In the back seat, Fang Zhiwei was also lost in thought, just like An Lin.

“If you’re tired, go ahead and sleep for a while. I’ll wake you when we get to the hospital.”

Gu Kai saw Fang Zhiwei looked somewhat exhausted and spoke softly after a moment’s thought.

Hearing his voice, Fang Zhiwei’s eyes brightened and a smile filled with joy appeared on her lips; however, it quickly faded, and she said apologetically, “Ah Kai, I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

Gu Kai looked at her with a slight frown.

Fang Zhiwei lowered her eyes to her injured arm and then looked up at Gu Kai’s handsome features. His features were sharp and his demeanor was calm. Those deep ink-colored eyes were inscrutable, revealing no emotions.

The man was sitting right in front of her, yet Fang Zhiwei felt he was far out of reach, enveloped by an unsettling distance.

She bit her lip, blaming herself, “It was my carelessness that resulted in Momo being kidnapped by Cheng Jia and Li En, causing Ranran heartache and worry, and making everyone concerned. When we get back to the hospital, I will apologize to Ranran personally.”

Gu Kai’s expression remained unchanged, it was unclear whether he accepted her apology or was indifferent to it, causing Fang Zhiwei’s unease to deepen further.

Though she was older than Wen Ran and others, and about An Lin’s age, Fang Zhiwei felt culpable. Facing the man she was in love with, she couldn’t help feeling anxious.

“You don’t need to. Since you’ve already retrieved Momo, no more apologies are necessary.”

Gu Kai looked at her for a full half-minute before finally speaking in a subdued tone.

In the front, An Lin turned to look at them, offered Fang Zhiwei a comforting smile, then turned back and continued sending her messages.

Qin Mu saw from the rearview mirror the adoring gaze Fang Zhiwei held for Gu Kai, he twinkled briefly, then shifted his gaze back to the road conditions ahead.

“Ah Kai, are you not angry with me anymore?”

Fang Zhiwei looked at Gu Kai almost in disbelief. He had been so harsh to her that day; could he really not be angry with her now?
