Chapter 1147: 1146 Adoption
Upon hearing this, Mo Xiuchen raised his handsome eyebrows, a smile creeping into his narrow eyes, “Why is that strange?”
An Lin said proudly, “I was just outside Ah Kai’s office listening for a few minutes. Fang Zhiwei was very enthusiastic toward Ah Kai, but Ah Kai seemed cold. When I went in with Ziyi, Ah Kai immediately stopped eating and took Ziyi from me.”
“There’s nothing strange about that. Ah Kai is fond of Ziyi and Momo; it’s normal for him to put down his chopsticks to hold him,” Mo Xiuchen said, seeming unconcerned.
It wasn’t clear whether he really thought it was normal or if he was saying that deliberately, waiting to hear what An Lin would say next.
An Lin frowned unhappily and explained, “It’s not just that. Ah Kai was even going to send Ziyi back, saying he had a dinner engagement later. After sending Ziyi back, he wouldn’t return to the office but go directly to the engagement. He told Fang Zhiwei to finish eating and go back by herself. Xiuchen, do you think Ah Kai was indirectly telling Fang Zhiwei to leave?”
“I don’t know.”
Mo Xiuchen looked tenderly at Ziyi in his arms, who was fighting off sleep, his eyes fluttering open, then closing again. He couldn’t help but smile indulgently and gently patted him, “Son, sleep, sleep, daddy will take you to see mommy in a little while.”
“Xiuchen, you take Ziyi back to the ward. I won’t go. I need to get some food.”
“Alright.”
Mo Xiuchen agreed with a nod, turned around with Ziyi in his arms, and walked toward the ward, leaving An Lin standing there, stunned, watching his retreating figure. She was a guest, after all; how could he not be a little more polite?
In the ward, Wen Ran saw Mo Xiuchen return with Ziyi. She looked behind him and, not seeing An Lin, asked in surprise, “Xiuchen, where’s An Lin? Has she left?”
“Uh, she said she was going to have lunch and left.”
Mo Xiuchen walked over to the bed with Ziyi, who had just fallen asleep, and naturally placed him in the baby cot. He reached out to hold Momo, who was in Bai Xiaoxiao’s arms.
“An Lin came in my car. I’ll take her home. Ranran, I’ll come over again tomorrow morning. You rest well,” Bai Xiaoxiao instructed Wen Ran and then left.
“Ranran, do you want to sleep too?”
Mo Xiuchen gently patted Momo in his arms. Ziyi was asleep, and Momo was also drowsy. With his gentle patting, one of her eyes was half open while the other was completely squinted shut.
“Does Momo want to sleep too?”
Wen Ran watched Momo, lulled to sleep by the patting of Mo Xiuchen, tenderness and maternal love tinging her eyebrows and eyes. Mo Xiuchen nodded, whispering, “It won’t take ten minutes for Momo to enter dreamland.”
“Then I’ll wait for Momo to fall asleep before I do.” Wen Ran motioned for him to sit in front of her. Mo Xiuchen leaned slightly toward her, and she reached out her hand, tenderly holding little Momo’s hand.
Thankfully, Momo hadn’t been mistreated or starved during her missing days.
The nail and hair samples that Cheng Jia had sent to her before were prepared by Li En before switching Momo out.
The second set of samples was also given to Cheng Jia by Li En, obtained to frighten and threaten Wen Ran, from who knows which donated specimen.
At that moment, outside Gu Kai’s office, Wen Ran truly believed they were from Momo.
Thankfully, they were not.
Through their own motives, Li En and Cheng Jia, one wishing to tear her apart from Xiuchen, the other wanting to have Bai Yiyi, ultimately didn’t lose their humanity to harm Momo.
Their daughter, in the end, had come back safe and sound.
Those agonizing days had been as interminably long as centuries. Now, watching Mo Yang, seeing her obediently sleeping in Xiuchen’s arms, Wen Ran’s heart could finally warm up and settle down.
Seeing Wen Ran staring at Momo in a daze, Mo Xiuchen seemed to sense the change in her emotions and spoke with a gentle voice, “Ranran, sleep now. Momo has safely come back. Next, you should take good care of yourself.”
“Okay.”
Wen Ran lifted her eyes, meeting Mo Xiuchen’s tender and slightly distressed gaze. That feeling of happiness returned to her once again.
With both of Momo’s eyes closed, seeing her asleep, Mo Xiuchen placed her in the crib. Wen Ran picked up her cellphone from beside her and took a couple more photos of Momo and Ziyi.
“Ranran, take a picture of me too.”
Mo Xiuchen looked up, saw Wen Ran taking photos, quickly curved his lips into a smile, and struck a handsome pose, letting Ranran take a photo of him with the babies.
“Alright, I’ll include you too.”
Wen Ran nodded with a smile and took two more shots.
Mo Xiuchen stood up and came over to look. Seeing the photo of himself with his son and daughter, the smile on his lips spread even wider.
“By the way, Ranran, Ah Jin said last night that he wants to adopt the baby girl who was mistaken for Momo.”
Mo Xiuchen’s words startled Wen Ran.
She blinked in confusion and looked at Mo Xiuchen, asking, “You mean, my brother wants to adopt that baby girl?”
“Yes, that baby girl is an abandoned child. Ah Jin said since she was mistaken for Momo, she must have some fate with us all. We have Momo and Ziyi now, but he wants to adopt that baby girl. If no one wants her, she would be sent to the orphanage.”
“But my brother isn’t even married yet. Why would he want to adopt?” Wen Ran frowned in bewilderment. “Otherwise, let’s adopt her.”
In fact, Wen Ran was very skeptical if her brother, a grown man, could properly take care of such a small baby girl. Of course, the most important thing was that he wasn’t married. Adopting a child might affect his future relationships.
Not every woman is willing to be a mother to someone else’s child.
“Ranran, if you are willing to adopt, then let’s just adopt her. Anyway, she’s about the same age as Ziyi and Momo. There’s not much difference between raising two or three kids.”
Mo Xiuchen had no objections; he was not someone who couldn’t afford to provide for his wife and children.
Thinking back on how the Wen Family adopted Ranran when she was little and loved her as their own daughter, he felt it wouldn’t be a bad thing to adopt the baby girl if they were fated to. After all, doing good deeds and accumulating virtues is never a bad thing.
Hearing Mo Xiuchen say this, Wen Ran immediately smiled, “Xiuchen, are you really willing?”
“As long as you’re willing, I have no objections.”
Mo Xiuchen smiled and nodded, a picture of a husband who regarded his wife as the most important thing and willingly followed her lead.
Wen Ran thought for a moment and then whispered softly, “Since you have no objections, let’s adopt the child. In the future, we’ll just treat her as our daughter and let her grow up with Ziyi and Momo.”
“Okay, I’ll go tell Dad and Ah Kai later. The child is still in the hospital. Before she’s sent to the orphanage, we should get all the necessary paperwork done and register her with Ziyi and Momo.”
Mo Xiuchen spoke softly.
Wen Ran nodded and praised, “Xiuchen, you’re really kind.”
“Haha, adopting a child in exchange for such words from Ranran is worth it.” Mo Xiuchen laughed heartily upon hearing this.
