Chapter 586: Restaurant [Bonus]
The feeling of sand beneath Sylas' feet was an oddly grounding one. It had been a very long time since he had the inclination to go to the beach, so he would have never thought that he would miss such a pleasing sensation.
It was as the saying goes... you didn't know what you missed until it was no longer there.
What made it more amusing was that this was as far from a beach as you could get. There was no water in sight and the sand was absolutely scalding to the touch. A normal human walking across this desert barefoot would lose all the layers of skin on their feet.
Sylas had made it pretty deep into Africor Continent territory... not that he had ever been near the edge at all. His portal had dumped him right in the middle of everything.
However, right now, he was headed toward the northern point, so he had to travel quite a distance.
After relying on the peacock for as long as he could, he had no choice but to let it rest. The Symbiote Mount was able to replenish itself by swallowing greenery and plant life. But, well...
There was none of that to be found in an endless plain of sand.
The feeling of having endless sand dunes facing you from all directions while the sun beaded down in a mighty tempest should have been despairing. But the day felt not much unlike a cool summer day to Sylas.
'There it is...'
Sylas took a chug from his water spatial device as he accelerated a bit. His feet had been buried deep within the sand before on purpose as a form of resistance training. But now he glided across the top of it as though it was practically level ground.
The best part was that the ice he used was almost instantly melted by the sun above, leaving no trace of him at all.
By the time Sylas made it to the city he had spotted in the far off, he was already wrapped in a large, tan-brown cloak and blended in with the locals perfectly.
From the information he had gathered, this particular city didn't have much security. It was still a long way away from the pyramids, and there were no portals or items of interest nearby. The only reason Sylas could use Aether a small bit was because Earth was already beginning to change.
In addition, because the Africor Continent was practically a true monarchy by now, their strict control over their citizens ironically allowed them much more leeway than the citizens of other governments received.
As such, in a minor city like this one, Sylas was actually able to enter without much effort at all...
Only to find himself face to face with something unexpected.
A Wanted Poster.
For him.
Sylas gave the photo only a glance before he continued on as though nothing at all had happened. His heart rate didn't even change.
But inside, he was annoyed.
He could guess why the Africor Continent did this, but this would make the next step of his plan far more difficult.
Cairith City, his real target, most definitely had far higher security. It was a city so close to the pyramids you could practically reach out and touch them from the window of a local restaurant.
Not only was there far higher security, but the government would certainly be ready.
'This is a warning...'
The reason there was no effort in trying to catch him out here was that it wasn't worth it. The Africor Continental Government was smart. They knew he was supremely powerful, and unless they committed a large number of resources, they would know that taking him down was impossible.
Trying to do both that and cover a vast continent like Africor was basically impossible. So they didn't even try.
Instead, they left these posters in every city as a warning to Sylas, a deterrence.
Here, Sylas might not be frisked or harassed... But in Cairith?
That would certainly be a different story entirely.
Sylas found a local restaurant and paid for a meal. Earth had already worked on just a single currency after the changes caused by the Sixth, or rather, Eighth Summoning. But Africor was even more forward-thinking than that.
Since everyone had the system, they had already begun to exchange F Coins.
Everyone, even in this small city, used F Coins to buy what they needed and get paid for their work.
'And I bet the government still gets their taxes on top of that... the number of F Coins they have in their arsenal is certainly shocking by now.'
Sylas silently ate his meal. He didn't put much effort into hiding his face at all, just keeping a shawl above his head. The more effort he put, the more he would stand out.
What he didn't expect was for someone to suddenly sit directly across from him.
Sylas hadn't been using his visualization just in order to keep a low profile. Plus, it consumed his Wisdom to keep it active for too long. It also seemed to consume more of his Wisdom when Aether was scarce in the region.
However, he had maintained a vigilance of his surroundings nonetheless.
This person had only just entered the restaurant and then made a beeline toward him.
If the place was packed and this was the only seat left, it would make sense... but that certainly
wasn't the case.
This person had come here for him.
And when Sylas looked up, his eyes couldn't help but narrow.
Alex.
Dressed in a similar getup, Alex gave Sylas a beaming smile. He looked as though he was smiling so hard he might even accidentally crack his own jaw.
Several thoughts swirled in Sylas' head. Was he being tracked? How had Alex found him so easily? Was it related to the stuff he had stolen from Alex before? And most importantly... Did this mean that Legacy was involved in this matter as well?
