Chapter 587: Quasi [Bonus]
[Alex Reynolds (FFF+)]
[Level: 31]
Sylas couldn't see the rest of his stats, but the Level was enticing enough.
"Long time no see, Psycho Syl."
Sylas gave him a long look before taking the last bite out of his steak. It wasn't a bad dinner and seemed to be made from the body of a very weak beast, probably only Level 5 or so. But it was still definitely more filling for him than a normal steak would have been.
"How did you find me?"
"Of course because I've been looking for you."
Sylas didn't reply, still waiting for an answer to his question.
Alex chuckled. "I've been waiting at this city. I was pretty sure that you would come by this one."
"Oh?"
After some thought, Sylas nodded.
The government should know where his Woodland Territory was by now if they were able to send aid to the likes of Braxwell and the others. So the fact Legacy would know wasn't too shocking either.
Tracing a path from the Woodland Territory to Cairith wasn't very difficult at all, so guessing what city Sylas would pop up in wouldn't be too surprising...
If not for the fact Sylas had not taken the obvious route. He chose the third most obvious route. He neither went entirely out of his way, nor did he take the most direct path.
But Alex had still guessed he would appear here.
It was either he had stationed clones at multiple cities again, he had made a decent guess, or there was something that he still wasn't telling Sylas.
Sylas had a feeling that it was the last of the three, but he chose not to press on it.
"What were you looking for me for?"
"To work together, of course. Isn't it about time we team up? Think of how much we could accomplish."
"What does Legacy have to do with this?" Sylas remained straightforward and blunt.
This time, Alex didn't seem to know how to answer. He scratched his head, looking a bit sheepish.
"To tell you the truth, I don't know. I'm just a luggage carrier."
Sylas' eyes narrowed.
If he remembered Alex's tier system correctly, he was considered to be Bronze tier in their organization. For him to be just a luggage man, then who else had come?
"Don't ask. I don't know anything, really. When I say luggage carrier, I'm pulling your leg a bit. I came here to scout the region and lay some groundwork ahead of time. But I've been part of these sort of missions several times already. If I haven't been told anything by now, it means that I won't be told ever."
"And you're willing to step on Legacy's tail like this already?"
Alex grinned again. "It won't count if they don't know, right?"
"And how do you plan to pull that off?"
"Who would report it if everyone's dead?"
Sylas fell into silence, looking at the man across from him deeply.
The two of them were more alike than it seemed. One being stoic and the other happy-go- lucky... those were just two outward facades.
What sort of true happy-go-lucky person could talk of death so easily?
"If you know nothing, why should I work with you?" Sylas asked.
Alex became sheepish again.
It really was hard to deal with someone like Sylas who was practically a one-man army. Taking someone along might only be detrimental to him.
Even Nosphaleen was now crammed into Sylas' Hibernation Realm once more. It seemed like this might be the last usage Sylas got out of the cancer Gene, so he would need to be cautious with when he took her out, because he certainly wouldn't be able to put her back in.
Against anybody else, Alex would give them a weird look. Who wouldn't want the help of a Level 31? He had already sensed Sylas' scan before.
But if it was Sylas, it just might make sense why he wouldn't care for such aid.
"You want information about Lauren, right?"
Sylas' gaze remained level, but inwardly he had confirmed all he needed to know about Alex. If you took this man's smile at face value, you would be the one to suffer in the end.
It was only a simple sentence, and not even really a threat considering Sylas had probed him
just now, and yet it carried so many layers to it, and even more questions.
It even made Sylas wonder if Alex was already aware of Cassarae's greatest weakness.
Or even worse than that, that Cassarae was probably a weakness of his own.
However, Sylas feigned ignorance.
"Is she participating in this excursion?"
"I can't be sure, but she does play a very important role for the organization. For something
as big as this where they mobilize Bronzes like me just for scouting, then there's a very good
chance that she's involved."
"What information do you have about her?"
"I know that she spent months away on a secret mission and only recently returned successfully. And due to the result of that mission, she was promoted from Gold to Quasi
Legendary."
"Quasi?"
"I was surprised too. It's a rank we didn't have before. Normally the Golds that are very close to those Legendary characters are only given slight privileges, but not enough to set them apart. It was very odd for Lauren to be given this special rank."
Sylas nodded.
Her being gone for months was just as he expected. He wasn't the only one who had to suffer through the time dilations. Everyone who stepped off of Earth did.
He was almost certain that this was the ploy of whoever was in the background. If all the best resources, chances, and opportunities were located off of Earth, by the time you benefited from them and came back, you would lose large segments of time.
If Sylas had been any slower in the Sylph Dungeon, rather than losing four months, he would have lost an entire year or more.
"Then let's get right to the point." Sylas suddenly said. "Do you have a way into Cairith?"
