Chapter 1004: 1004 Coastal Tour
Wolfe looked at the map, and then at Cassie. “Perhaps we can do something grand, something that might impress the other leaders into being less annoying?”
Cassie laughed as Wolfe considered ways to use her power to get out of future negotiations.
“Well, if you’re going to donate a massive amount of mana, we could likely do something spectacular.” Cassie agreed reluctantly.
It would be annoying, but she had to admit that they needed the help if they were going to convert from a resource starved industrial nation into a magic dependant industrial nation. Just converting the fuel source for their vehicles to a renewable oil source was already going to tax the croplands on the continent.
There had been talk in the Sylvan Coven and with some of the beastkin villages that they would like to make massive oil seed crops so that they could trade the oil for the cool stuff that the humans made.
The concept of television was intriguing to the beastkin, who had always lived primitive lives. Plus, there were cars, electric appliances, space heaters, and even self – warming clothes that didn’t need you to know magic to use.
All of these things were marvels to the rural villagers, and they wanted them.
That was their plan to trade with the human nations. There was no need to teach their people to make all these technological marvels, they could just grow crops and trade the humans for all of the wonderful things that an industrialized nation took for granted.
And, those things broke and wore out, so they would need to be replaced. Or new and better things would come out, and the people would want that, so the flow of goods to the agricultural areas would continue to feed one nation and equip the other with little luxuries.
It also helped that the monster tide was being brought under control, so there were far fewer deaths among the beastkin than there had ever been in the past. That meant more of everything, and more hands to harvest the crops.
It also created secondary industries, namely the witches and now the artificers, who were working on converting conventional equipment to magic powered equipment.
With the new trade deal with the Fallen Empire, there were billions of new people to sell their goods to, and most of the humans didn’t even realize it.
But the residents of Forest Grove did, and they had ample opportunity to set themselves up as the middlemen to warehouse and distribute all the goods that they could get their hands on.
In short, how much the people of Gormana needed was secondary to the issues at hand. That could be solved. What really mattered was that there were skilled workers available and manufacturing plants operating to produce all the fun toys that the people of a dozen or more worlds wanted.
Wolfe considered the best answer, and nodded in response to Cassie’s suggestion.
“You are in luck, Finance Minister. We will agree to assist your nation with its food pricing problem under the terms of the crisis clauses in our standardized trade agreement. The pricing will be as standardized, by mana volume needed, and payable in instalments over ten years, with no interest or fees.” Wolfe agreed.
“And how much will that be in total.” The Finance Minister asked.
“That depends on you. We could do it starting at about a hundred million units for the entire nation, or we could do it for a billion, and turn Gormana into one of the lushest tropical regions on the entire planet, where crops grow in a matter of weeks and need to be harvested twice monthly to keep up with growth.” Wolfe replied.
The man choked on his coffee as Wolfe explained that, and shook his head.
“There is no way that is possible.”
“I have a force of spell casters nearly as powerful as the one that reshaped the entire world. I assure you, it is very possible for me to have a Rank Six Garden Charm cast over your entire country.” Wolfe assured him.
The Finance Minister slowly blinked, and then again, as his brain tried to process what a Rank Six Garden Charm might look like. Even Forest Grove mostly used Rank Two and Rank Three garden charms for their gardens, as that was all that was necessary, even for the magical plants.
Growing nonmagical food varieties with a Rank Six charm would bring them to full growth in only a few days, but it would be chaos for the weather, as blanketing an entire nation in the spell instead of a small garden would cause the sun and rain cycles to be rapidly changing, as the spell tried to keep up with the needs of the crops.
In an enclosed space, it would just rain like a sprinkler to keep the crops irrigated, or create moisture in the ground. But over a massive area, the spell would naturally take the easiest route and use the clouds.
“The first thing, that would be the fifty percent better crop yield, correct? What would it cost to double the normal output?” The Finance minister asked hesitantly. There were a lot of people in Gormana, so between them all, it should be an acceptable price to pay.
Ten units per person was less than they would save on a week’s groceries if the price went back to normal. Surely, he could ask for more than that without consulting the leadership.
“Going from a fifty percent increase to one hundred percent increase would roughly triple the cost.” Cassie estimated.
“The change would get exponentially more costly after that, as the spell would need to do much more to compensate for the lacking natural ability of the land to provide.” She added.
“Then I would like to request that the charm to double the natural output be cast over the entirety of Gormana’s Croplands.” The Finance Minister requested formally, as his assistant furiously began to write out a proper proposal.
“Wonderful. Get that all down on paper, and I will sign it later today. Myself plus whoever is nominated to go with me for the garden charm will leave for Gormana in the morning. By the end of next week, you should have an all-new nation, with growth charms and a new power supply.” Wolfe declared.
And his people would have a reliable source of technology from a nation that wasn’t starving. Now, they just needed to make deals with the Guardians to ensure the factories had enough raw materials for the trade deals that Wolfe had in mind.
