Chapter 888: Chapter 870: The Final Gambit

Yami can not only transform into the targets it has devoured, but it also possesses their abilities!

For instance, the greatsword it’s wielding now is the weapon of the Red Rock Emperor from years ago, and its techniques are identical to those the Red Rock Emperor once used. The only difference is that their power has become overwhelmingly stronger!

After knocking Rocky away with a single slash, Yami stepped through the air in rapid succession, instantly catching up to him. The greatsword in its hand came crashing down on Rocky’s head relentlessly!

Luckily, they were in midair, giving Rocky more space to dodge. Facing the descending greatsword, he hurriedly sank downward as if plummeting, swiftly evading the attack while gaining distance from Yami.

By now, Rocky had realized—escaping without battling Yami was impossible. So after stabilizing his posture, he charged upward again, wielding his scythe without hesitation toward Yami.

With a horizontal sweep of the scythe, a chilling light flashed past Yami’s waist, instantly slicing it in two. But in the next second, Yami, split in half, healed itself effortlessly, showing no signs of injury before leaping forward toward Rocky.

The greatsword danced wildly as Yami’s offensive became relentless, showcasing martial techniques Rocky had never seen before. Naturally, he hadn’t seen them, as every move Yami used now originated from the Red Rock Emperor. Being a figure from over a century ago, the martial techniques the Red Rock Emperor had mastered were nearly lost to history and now referred to as Ancient Martial Techniques.

These Ancient Martial Techniques were far superior to modern martial methods. Back then, Mana Technology wasn’t as advanced as it is now, nor did they have powerful equipment like the Void Magic Armor. Consequently, people honed their martial skills with greater precision and ferocity. In such conditions, Rocky was pushed back repeatedly, barely able to block attacks without countering.

Ducking to evade a horizontal sweep of the greatsword, Rocky scarcely had time to stabilize himself midair before Yami thrust the weapon at him, forcing him to retreat again, unwilling to risk parrying with his scythe.

He had no choice—Yami’s strength as a Great Demon was overwhelming. Every time Rocky’s scythe clashed with Yami’s greatsword resulted in the scythe being knocked away, sometimes nearly flying out of his grasp entirely. After several attempts, Rocky no longer dared to meet Yami’s greatsword head-on.

Although Rocky was on the defensive throughout their many clashes, he still found plenty of openings to counterattack. Unfortunately, none of his counterattacks were effective, as Yami was entirely indifferent to physical forces. No matter the injuries inflicted by the scythe, Yami restored itself instantly each time.

Rocky had considered using Elemental Attacks against Yami, which seemed like a viable strategy, but there was another issue he needed to take into account—mana consumption.

While Elemental Attacks could indeed harm Yami, Rocky faced merely one mist-formed clone of Yami. Being composed of mist, Yami could envelop the entire Mist Mountain. How many clones of the Red Rock Emperor could Yami create? And how many times could Rocky unleash Elemental Attacks? Despite the ample mana reserves within the White Demon Armor, they were still finite. If Rocky expended all the limited uses of Elemental Attacks battling clones, would he still be able to escape?

Obviously not!

Thus, Rocky had to save Elemental Attacks for the most crucial moment if he wanted to make it out alive.

Faced with Yami’s ferocious onslaught, Rocky could only retreat step by step.

However, his extensive combat experience allowed him to maneuver cleverly even while retreating. Though it might seem he was backing away continuously, upon closer inspection, one would notice his retreat was heading upward, not downward!

This was the defining trait of aerial combat—in midair, forward, backward, and sideways were relative, not absolute. So when Rocky was forced to retreat repeatedly, he was actually inching closer to higher altitudes, searching for an escape opportunity.

Soon enough, that opportunity appeared!

After being swept away by Yami’s greatsword once again, Rocky leveraged the tremendous force of the strike to propel himself backward, swiftly accelerating his warship to maximum speed. In an instant, he shot upward by tens of meters, putting considerable distance between himself and Yami while drawing near to the fog’s zenith.

But, naturally, Yami wouldn’t let Rocky succeed so easily. Just as Rocky was about to break free of the mist, the figure of the Red Rock Emperor emerged once more, blocking his path. However, this outcome was well within Rocky’s expectations. Without slowing down, Rocky charged straight at Yami, gripping his scythe tightly as red-colored runes flared up on his wrist. The runes spread rapidly, igniting the Magic Fang Scythe in flames. A fiery tongue coiled around the weapon!

Elemental Augmentation!

After the successful research of Elemental Runes, the Magic Fang Scythe had been enhanced with various elemental runes, allowing Rocky to switch between them during combat. He had been waiting for the right moment and hadn’t used it until now. But finally, the opportunity had arrived, and Rocky unleashed the Elemental Attack without hesitation.

Wrapped in blazing flames like a hellish blade, the Magic Fang Scythe cleaved across Yami’s chest, instantly slicing it in two. This time, with the scythe enveloped in fire, Yami was unable to recover as it had before. Instead, it let out a blood-curdling scream before slowly dissipating.

This was a chance Rocky couldn’t let slip. He immediately accelerated again, charging upward toward the high-altitude escape route.

But at that moment, the mist around him suddenly gathered and formed two massive hands, reaching out fiercely from either side to grab him!

Clearly, Yami wasn’t letting him leave so easily.

Seeing the colossal hands closing in, Rocky realized his scythe would be ineffective against them. With limited range, the weapon couldn’t contend with the immense size of the mist-formed hands. So, without reducing speed, Rocky activated the runes on his shoulder armor, causing arcs of electricity to spark around his armor.

Pumping nearly all the mana from his armor into the Elemental Runes, Rocky’s electric aura immediately intensified. He raised his arms outward, aiming at the oncoming giant hands on either side, sending forth two immense bolts of lightning in a flash!

The lightning shot forth, and the two massive hands froze midair as if electrified before starting to dissolve and disintegrate bit by bit moments later.

It worked!

Though using most of his armor’s mana reserves to trigger such powerful lightning attacks, Rocky was aware of his success. Once the massive hands completely disintegrated, he would be able to escape!

But just then, the mist above his head began swirling violently, and within seconds it formed into a gigantic fist that came crashing down on him. With a deafening thud, Rocky was slammed straight toward the ground…
