Chapter 887: Chapter 869: Inescapable Palm
Seeing Liliya rush off to rescue Rocky, Karina naturally could not follow. On the entire War Steed, only the three of them served as the backbone. With Rocky and Liliya both absent, if she also left, who would oversee this entire ship of elites?
Moreover, spotting a Great Demon was absolutely no trivial matter. Karina had to report it to the Allied Forces immediately, or else not just them—potentially the entire battle zone—could face dire threats.
Thus, after this, she promptly contacted her Rose City and relayed the matter to the Allied Forces through its liaison officer.
The Allied Forces, upon receiving word, immediately reported it upward layer by layer, and in no time, the matter was escalated to the Staff Headquarters and Marshal Mannstein.
“A Great Demon… Are you certain it’s Yami, the Demon of the Mist?”
Upon hearing the news, even the always composed Mannstein rose from his seat. He paced back and forth in the room, asking.
“The reports from the front line claim it’s true. Allegedly submitted by Rocky.”
“Hmm…”
Mannstein nodded upon hearing this. If the intelligence had come from someone else, he might suspect its accuracy—after all, an ordinary warrior couldn’t survive even a single encounter with a Great Demon, let alone live to report anything in such detail. But Rocky was different. He did possess the fortitude to stand firm before a Great Demon. Additionally, as a City Lord, his academic insight far exceeded that of others. Under these circumstances, Mannstein believed Rocky’s report to be trustworthy.
So, he promptly issued his orders: “Deploy the Imperial Knight Order alongside the Empire’s main forces—flatten Mist Mountain!”
“Your Excellency Marshal, how many squads of the Imperial Knight Order should be dispatched?”
“All of them.”
Glancing at his adjutant, Mannstein decisively responded.
The Great Demons were monarchs among demons, and there were only thirty-three of them in the entire world. However, the threat these thirty-three demons posed to the Allied Forces was immeasurable. Every single Great Demon had to be treated with utmost caution. On the flip side, while Great Demons might be the strongest among demons, eliminating just one could bring overwhelmingly positive effects for the Allied Forces—or even the whole world. Without exaggeration, killing Yami would essentially mean securing the Myriad Snakes Region entirely. After all, if the Great Demon was slain, Normal Demons would stand no chance against the Allied Forces.
Yet, the matter was far from straightforward. A Great Demon was, after all, a Great Demon. Ordinary people might be ignorant, but Mannstein was well-aware of the legends surrounding Great Demons. It was said that during the Land Era, a single Great Demon could annihilate an entire nation. These creatures represented the peak of demonic combat power. Even though humanity’s technological advancements had far surpassed those of the Land Era in the Sky Era, defeating a Great Demon remained a near-impossible feat. In fact, to date, humanity had yet to successfully eliminate even one Great Demon.
Under these circumstances, Mannstein was unequivocal about deploying the battle zone’s most elite forces to confront the threat. He wasted no time dispatching the Empire’s main units, as well as the Empire’s most elite Void Magic Warriors, the Imperial Knight Order!
Within the Myriad Snake Battle Zone, the Imperial Knight Order consisted of fifty squads, totaling five hundred members. These individuals rarely participated in combat, as their elite nature made ordinary battles unworthy of their involvement. As the foremost elite unit, they were reserved solely for tackling the most formidable challenges.
This time, however, Mannstein spared none, sending all fifty squads in one fell swoop to guarantee success in killing the Great Demon.
With this decision finalized, the Empire’s main forces commenced their gathering in the battle zone. Once assembled, they immediately set out for Mist Mountain. Meanwhile, at Mist Mountain, Rocky was desperately devising a way to escape.
Launching himself skyward from the altar, Rocky accelerated as quickly as possible towards the edge of the mist. If his assumption was correct, the fog enshrouding the mountain was Yami’s true form. As long as he pierced through the mist, he had a chance at survival.
Rocky was correct in his assumption, but executing it was incredibly difficult.
Not long after Rocky soared into the air, he realized that despite pushing his armor to its maximum speed, he couldn’t gain momentum. The surrounding fog seemed to drag him down, making escape impossible.
At the moment he grasped this reality, a cluster of mist before him began to take the form of a human figure. Eventually, it transformed once again into the visage of the Red Rock Emperor, blocking his path.
Yami had reappeared!
The entity Rocky had burned earlier was merely one of Yami’s avatars. For an entity whose mist enveloped the entirety of Mist Mountain, losing a small portion to fire was negligible—akin to a drop in the ocean. It caused Yami no harm. Thus, when Yami adopted the form of the Red Rock Emperor once more, it remained unscathed.
“You should learn from the Red Rock Emperor. When he faced me, he did not choose to flee.”
Appearing before Rocky in the guise of the Red Rock Emperor, Yami spoke with a laugh.
But these words held no sway over Rocky’s resolve. The Red Rock Emperor was a peerless genius, and Rocky didn’t consider himself his equal. Besides, even if the Red Rock Emperor hadn’t fled in the face of Yami, didn’t he ultimately end up consumed? Rocky certainly wasn’t about to let himself meet the same fate.
Ignoring Yami’s interference, Rocky accelerated and darted past him, keeping his eyes fixed on the sky. As long as he broke through the mist, he could escape to safety.
Unfortunately, Rocky seemed to have overlooked one crucial fact: the mist itself was Yami. Even if he bypassed Yami’s manifestation as the Red Rock Emperor, he couldn’t escape the confines of the fog—and thus couldn’t evade Yami’s grasp.
Indeed, Rocky hadn’t flown far beyond Yami before the Red Rock Emperor’s form materialized once more, blocking his way. This time, Yami wielded an enormous sword!
The sword was a full two meters long, with a width exceeding the span of two palms—a true behemoth weapon. According to historical records, the Red Rock Emperor’s weapon during his campaign against the demons had been this very sword!
Wielding the giant sword, the Red Rock Emperor’s form of Yami swung forcefully at Rocky. The massive blade descended with a thunderous whoosh, leaving Rocky no choice but to raise his scythe in defense.
With a resounding *clang*, Rocky managed to block the strike. However, the sheer force sent him hurtling backward. Yami’s strength was so overwhelming that even the White Demon Armor couldn’t compare.
Before Rocky could regain his footing, the Red Rock Emperor-shaped Yami lunged toward him with a swift shoulder thrust.
