Chapter 767: Interesting Race
Hearing about the Dark Elves’ prophecy, Lucien is left with conflicting feelings.
After reading his mother’s letter, he thought she didn’t want to influence or manipulate his decisions, but now he wonders if he really has a choice or if all his actions are being shaped by her.
Part of Lucien wants to be as rational and efficient as possible. Following the most evident path and allying with the Dark Elven Queen seems like the quickest option to end the war on the Shadow Star.
But what Lucien desires most deep in his heart is to do what gives him the most pleasure, which would mean ignoring all this mess and taking matters into his own hands.
As he contemplates this, a voice emerges within him. "Do it!"
That voice is clearly Lust’s, who couldn’t be happier with Lucien wanting to act on his desires above all, as it is what defines their sin.
However, the Lucien of now is not the boy who would act solely based on his emotions. He cannot afford mistakes that put his beloved ones in danger, so making such a decision isn’t easy.
"I need some time to think," he says aloud to the girls in the room.
Everyone can see that Lucien is at least shaken by the revelation of the prophecy, and while his sisters and the Sins understand why, the other women are confused.
Ludmila and Svetlana are particularly surprised to see Lucien uncertain about something, as in the short time they have spent with him, he seemed unbelievably prepared for everything.
Sophia quickly stands up and looks at him lovingly. "I’ll go with you."
"There’s no need, my dear," Lucien appreciates how she is always willing to put his well-being above hers.
Lucien is well aware of Sophia’s desire to learn more about her mother’s situation.
"You can keep talking," he says and casts a quick glance at Cecilia.
She nods at him, understanding that the girls still want to know more details about their mothers.
Then, Lucien starts walking towards the door, drawing the attention of the other women in the room, especially Ludmila and Svetlana.
Both elves are unsure what will happen next, and the tension is driving them anxious.
Lucien wants to trust them, particularly Ludmila, while Svetlana also has her usefulness, but he can’t take risks now and only decisions he is certain about seem viable.
Eve approaches Lucien and speaks to him. "I’ll keep an eye on them."
He places his hand on her shoulder and smiles lovingly, causing Eve to blush slightly, fearful he might kiss her in front of everyone.
But to Eve’s relief and slight disappointment, Lucien simply strokes her shoulder before leaving her. "I won’t be long."
Pride senses Eve’s emotions and exclaims in her mind, "What’s wrong with you?!"
As Eve mentally argues with Pride, Nea also wants to speak with Lucien before he leaves the room, but she uses mental communication.
"Should I approach the elf?" she asks about Ludmila. "I could find out more about Yakov’s current situation and maybe convince her to lead us to him."
Lucien is still unsure which path he wants to take, but having options is always good, so he gives Nea the green light to proceed.
Leaving the room, Lucien lets out a long sigh and relaxes his shoulders. Hearing Cecilia’s story, which probably mirrors the experiences of his other sisters’ mothers, stirred intense emotions in him. He knows he couldn’t have done anything to help them since he didn’t even exist when Michael began his manipulations.
Yet, Lucien still feels a sense of guilt knowing his mother was involved with Michael all this time, orchestrating unknown manipulations from the shadows. He wants to believe she is a good person, but it’s hard to trust anything right now.
He can’t let his sisters see him waver; they need him to be strong and decisive to protect them. So, Lucien just wants some time to reorganize his thoughts and emotions.
Lust understands this more than anyone and refrains from discussing all that they discovered, staying silent within his soul.
Lucien appreciates Lust’s consideration, and as time is a scarce resource, he doesn’t waste any moments standing idle.
He glances down the long corridor and sees a staircase, likely leading to the rooftop.
Ascending the stairs, Lucien finds himself on the top of Ludmila’s castle, which is also in a state of disrepair due to the prolonged war.
He sits on the parapet and has a panoramic view of Zimograd. The city has seen better days, but it still surprises Lucien by being four or five times larger than Portgreen, Cassidy’s hometown.
The vista provides him with a moment of solitude, allowing him to reflect and gather his thoughts amidst the complexities of his family legacy and the unfolding conflicts.
Surrounded by miles of walls encircling it on all sides, Zimograd extends even further into rural areas now occupied by the green army. With his incredible senses, Lucien can see and hear every part of the city from that vantage point, allowing the multitude of sounds and sights to flood into his mind.
There are tens of thousands of voices discussing various matters, enough to drive anyone mad in less than a second. However, Lucien can separate the voices in his mind and focus on each one individually. He can also easily distinguish the voices of his beloved wives among the thousands of others.
Thanks to the Soul Contract with them, he can feel in his heart that they are very happy now. Of course, their happiness isn’t due to the precarious situation of Zimograd’s people but rather because they are managing to be useful to Lucien by helping the people he wants to aid.
Thus, the girls are spread out across the city, assisting the Dark Elves in various ways, such as with food from the Purple World, medicines made by Daisy, and even new clothes being mass-produced by Rebecca.
The girls are doing this with beautiful smiles on their faces and a very friendly attitude, which leads the people of Zimograd to regard them as divine beings.
All of Lucien’s wives appear as the most perfect beauties of their races, but Ghilanna and Ghalenna are exceptionally admired by the Dark Elves. They had heard of other elven races, but the light, slightly green-tinted skin of the mother-daughter elf pair is seen as a type of exotic beauty to the Dark Elves.
To Lucien’s surprise, no one in the city tries to take advantage of his beautiful wives.
The respect and admiration they receive speak volumes about the impact they are having on the city and its people. It’s a testament to the positive influence Lucien and his family are exerting, even in these trying times.
Observing Zimograd, Lucien notices that, despite the Dark Elves’ appearance and their tendency to wear small and erotic armors and clothing, they are behaving in a surprisingly honorable and restrained manner.
Nea and Lust had warned him about their lascivious nature, but all Lucien sees are people conducting themselves with loyalty and honor.
"They’ve been under siege for a long time," Lust communicates with Lucien. "So when you and your girls came to save them... of course, they’re restraining their lascivious nature and behaving as well as they can."
"I see," Lucien is even more impressed with the Dark Elves for being able to contain their nature in such a way.
It makes sense that they would strive to avoid creating problems, especially knowing that all these beauties are the wives of a powerful demon.
While Lucien watches over Zimograd, an event at the city gate catches his attention. He focuses his senses in that direction and sees some Astrids beating up some elves from the green army and also some from Zimograd while Oya gives little Ko a cat bath.
It’s clear that the elves have started fighting again, but instead of Oya intervening, Astrid had to step in.
Lucien finds the sight of Oya licking Ko’s fur adorable, but he still sends a mental scold to her. "You big lazy cat!"
"*ROAR??!!*" Oya is startled as she can’t smell Lucien from that distance and is caught by surprise.
Lucien laughs at Oya’s reaction, but then he notices that the elves beaten up by Astrid have differing reactions.
As Lucien observes from the rooftop, the situation at the gate reveals intriguing aspects of the Dark Elves’ culture. The soldiers of Zimograd show regret, but those from the green army display expressions of pleasure despite their bruised bodies.
Some even dare to stand up to face Astrid again, finding the prospect of being beaten by such an exotic beauty thrilling.
While Lucien certainly understands that sentiment, he’s not willing to share his beloved Astrid’s punches with other men.
"Oya." His voice resonates calmly but loud enough for half of Zimograd to hear, focused especially on the city gate.
"*ROAR!!!*" Eager to make up for her moment of laziness, Oya launches into action against the brawling Dark Elves, particularly targeting those in green.
As per Lucien’s request, she doesn’t kill anyone but brutally mutilates them, making the elves bitterly regret defying the Devil’s orders.
The green-armored elves also notice the ’special’ treatment from the tigress and quickly realize it’s due to their enjoyment of the fight with Astrid.
From the rooftop of the castle, Lucien watches the entire scene with a pensive expression. "It seems this will be more difficult than I expected..."
"Maybe not," Lust comments. "They certainly seem more like you than Humans, Nagas, and Mermaids."
Lucien can’t deny that. "Isn’t that the problem?"
"It might be difficult now because we’ve just arrived here, but once they get to know you better, no one will want to mess with your girls," Lust speaks confidently.
"Hmm..." Lucien can’t help but wonder if his mother crafted that prophecy to manipulate him, yet he can’t deny his growing desire to earn the respect and loyalty of the Dark Elves.
