Nine Star Hegemon Body Art

Chapter 5623: Playing Dirty With Me?

“This fool…” Feng Fei muttered.

Feng Fei bit her lip, her nails digging into her palm until it bled. Yet, she didn’t notice any of it.

“Why did he do that?” asked Jiang Yue’e, feeling just as baffled.

Long Chen had severed one of Long Zaiye’s wings, but the action was futile. It didn’t cause any critical damage, nor did it disrupt Long Zaiye’s recovery. Instead, it drained Long Chen’s already limited energy reserves.

At a moment when Long Chen should have been aiming for Long Zaiye’s vital points, he had chosen an incomprehensible move. With all his combat experience, how could he make such a glaring mistake?

“Long Chen!”

The Northern Alliance’s experts were also stunned. Although they couldn’t be considered the strongest experts, they had plenty of combat experience. They could all tell that Long Chen had thrown away a golden opportunity to strike a decisive blow—all to save them.

They had already abandoned all hope of survival. Emerging from the shadow of despair, they found themselves at a loss for words.

“Go!”

Long Chen spat out a single word before darting toward Long Zaiye like a streak of lightning.

“Why did he save us?” one of them murmured, still dazed.

The Northern Alliance’s experts were all dumbfounded. They didn’t have any relationship with Long Chen, so why would he abandon his chance to strike down Long Zaiye just to save them?

Regaining their composure, the Northern Alliance’s experts quickly withdrew. With a resolute expression, their leader shouted, “He saved our lives! If we must, we will repay him with our own. If he is in danger, we will not stand idly by!”

In an instant, the Northern Alliance’s strongest experts gathered. Over three hundred eight-vein Heaven Saints rallied together, their auras brimming with determination, while the rest retreated into the distance.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion shattered the air. Long Zaiye’s severed arms had fully regenerated, fueled by the unimaginable essence blood he had absorbed. His aura remained frighteningly robust.

As Long Chen clashed with Long Zaiye once more, both fighters were hurled backward. This time, they were evenly matched. The advantage Long Chen had painstakingly gained was gone in an instant.

Moreover, Long Chen’s aura continued to decline, while Long Zaiye’s divine wings pulsed ominously, greedily consuming the surrounding essence blood. His power was climbing steadily.

Seeing this scene, Feng Fei couldn’t help but sigh. This fellow had always been foolish. To save a group of strangers, he just had to sacrifice himself. Was it really worth it?

Long Zaiye threw his head back and laughed, his voice dripping with mockery. “Hahaha! With my divine wings, the power of the heavens, the earth, and all living beings is mine to command. As long as the ten thousand spirits exist, my strength is inexhaustible. And you? You had a chance to stop me, but you squandered it to save a handful of ants. Now, death is all that awaits you. The outcome is clear; how pitifully dull.”

Long Zaiye stared at Long Chen with disdain, the corners of his lips curling into a smirk. Meanwhile, the Northern Alliance’s experts wore expressions of guilt. It dawned on them that Long Chen had risked his life to save theirs.

Long Chen lazily rested Evilmoon on his shoulder and said, “After repeatedly losing, does it even bother you anymore? Or have you just gotten used to the humiliation? Aren’t you ashamed of using such underhanded methods? If you’re going to play dirty, at least own it. What’s with all the bragging? It’s pathetic.”

“You…”

Long Zaiye’s face darkened, and he opened his mouth to retort but found no words to defend himself.

Although this divine ability of his was truly powerful, it lacked the honor befitting a warrior. Flaunting it only made him look like a petty person.

Long Chen chuckled coldly, his voice brimming with unshakable confidence. “Hmph, right now, we have seventy percent of our power left. In terms of pure power, you lost. So now we are competing in technique and control, which has always been my strongest point. Your wings may be unique, but I won’t let you kill more people to fuel them. Today, the one who’ll lose is you.”

His calm words struck like thunder, silencing all doubts. Even those watching from afar could not question him.

Feng Fei’s heart lifted. The despair that had enveloped her was replaced with a glimmer of hope.

“If Long Chen could actually defeat Long Zaiye in this state, that would truly defy the heavens,” murmured Jiang Yue’e, her eyes narrowing in thought.

It was well-known that Long Zaiye possessed five fully-formed karmic luck heaven veins, while Long Chen had only recently begun condensing his fifth astral veins. In terms of cultivation realm, Long Zaiye was clearly above him.

Moreover, Long Zaiye had replenished his strength by slaughtering countless experts, absorbing their essence blood to restore his power. By all accounts, he should have been untouchable in this state. If Long Chen could triumph over such odds, then he would truly be a monster.

Jiang Yue’e looked at Long Chen. With Evilmoon lazily resting on his shoulder, he looked as if the battle was no longer a concern. In stark contrast, Feng Fei’s tension was at an all-time high. For the first time, Jiang Yue’e understood why Feng Fei had pleaded with her to support Long Chen if the chance ever came.

This man’s potential was boundless, like a bottomless well. Offending someone like him could spell disaster for any clan, even the Jiang clan. He would give those poor clans endless headaches.

At the same time, Jiang Yue’e couldn’t help but sigh at the cruel irony of fate. Long Zaiye and Long Chen shared the same surname, both born of the Long clan’s bloodline. Yet here they were, locked in a duel to the death.

From the Jiang clan’s perspective, however, their infighting was a boon. While the four divine clans were allies, they had their own ambitions. A fractured Long clan only served to strengthen the Jiang clan’s position.

“Hahaha!” Long Zaiye’s laughter broke her train of thought. “Fool! Seventy percent? That’s only you. My power has already recovered to eighty percent. How many more blows can you take before crumbling?”

Without warning, Long Zaiye shot toward Long Chen. The Dark Demon Spear whistled through the air, aiming straight for Long Chen’s chest.

The strike was so swift that it seemed Long Chen had no chance to react. The spear pierced his chest cleanly.

Gasps of shock rippled through the onlookers. Was Long Zaiye truly this fast? Could even Long Chen not defend against such an attack?

However, Long Zaiye’s triumphant expression abruptly shifted to one of confusion.

Long Chen’s body exploded into a shower of crackling lightning runes.

“A clone?”

Clones were considered basic techniques in the immortal world, often dismissed by peak experts as unsophisticated. Yet, this “low-tier” move had fooled everyone, including Long Zaiye.

Long Zaiye instantly had a bad feeling, and without hesitation, he swept the Dark Demon Spear behind him.

The spear cut through empty air.

“Thousand Years of Death!”

A sinister voice rang out, followed by a burst of humiliating pain in Long Zaiye’s butt.

“AAARGH!” Long Zaiye let out a blood-curdling screech, the sound reverberating through the battlefield.

“You want to play dirty with me? Fine, I’ll play,” Long Chen sneered, his figure materializing behind Long Zaiye, a wicked grin on his face.
