Shepherding Humanity

Chapter 113: The focal point of the world.

Anyone well versed in medical knowledge would know that cancer cells aren’t a foreign virus. They’re out-of-control “traitor cells” that are part of the body, with a nigh-infinite lifespan and the ability to multiply without limit.

The current Xu Zhi was no longer 100% human due to his genetic manipulation. He had two sets of genes: the first was his Human genes, and the second was the genes of the Evil Eye.

At his core, Xu Zhi was a Tyranis, but he didn’t want to swap out his human genes. If he did that, he’d no longer be a humanoid creature.

His cancer cells used to be ordinary cells, and it was only natural that after they “rebelled”, they’d still have the properties of both Human and Evil Eyes cells.

“This is why, the more I grow as a lifeform, the stronger my cancer cells will also grow.” Xu Zhi murmured.

“If I integrate even stronger genes into my cells, then my traitorous cancer cells will also gain those powerful genes… Right now my cancer cells aren’t ordinary human cancer cells, they’re cancer cells with the special properties of the Evil Eye’s genes!”

Xu Zhi took a deep breath.

“It’ll only grow stronger as time passes; hopefully, they’ll be able to take care of it.”

Xu Zhi sealed the dry ice into a tiny, specially made coffin, and discreetly placed it by the sandbox’s border. Next, he logged in as a player and entered the large sandbox by sneaking through the Passage Between Worlds. He moved the coffin to a mountain valley and started digging.

A night has gone by since Xu Zhi received his express delivery, which was equivalent to 50-60 years in the sandbox.

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 851.

A unique kind of bio-magic-box, along with knowledge of its spell structure, silently began to spread throughout the Three Great Kingdoms.

After recovering from their initial shock, the Great Academies and Sects began to pool their resources to produce magic boxes. They greatly treasured the boxes, and used them to store their precious materials and prized magical tools. Magic spells to trap enemies, transport food and animals were also developed using the magic box as the basis.

The national power of the Three Great Magic Kingdoms improved by leaps and bounds.

War often greatly advanced the development of civilization.

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 866.

The Evil Gods grew ever stronger and more uncontrollable.

When traces of the “Crawling Chaos” Nyarlathotep were found deep within the Balchik mountain range, Empress Ermin and Empress Medusa led the entire nation against the Evil God and seriously wounded it.

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 867.

Captured witches began to side with the Evil Gods.

“We’ve opened our eyes to the truth!”

“We cannot stop the descent of the Evil God!”

“We simply have no way of killing them! We can only helplessly watch as they grow stronger!”

The witches were fanatical in their worship and even offered their own blood as tribute. They hid magic circles within each town and village to speed up the Evil God’s descent.

Traitors like them will always exist, no matter the world or era, and the Magic World was no different. When threatened by those stronger than them, these traitors would throw away their pride just to save their own skin.

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 875.

The Evil Gods’ followers were growing ever bolder.

A great number of mages had joined them, and they even had their own underground cult. Their name had become synonymous with Invasion, Evil, Terror, and Death.

Although the Evil Gods were still only Level Five Mages, the momentum of their growth could no longer be stopped. Because they could not be killed for good, the witches could only watch as they grew ever stronger.

In the same year, the Seven Evil Gods fought one another, reducing their numbers to Six Evil Gods. One of the spies had been killed and forced out of this survival game in another world.

“They’re killing their own kind? Such brutality!”

“No, through killing one another, they’re merging! Soon! The Unifier of All Things, the Evil God Cthulhu, will reawaken!”

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 879.

Medusa’s time was running out and she would soon die of old age. That night, Ermin paid her a visit. “Back then, the Evil God attacked the Phoenix, and came to Babylon with the Phoenix’s Blood. After the God of Wisdom broke it apart, I have managed to collect some of the Phoenix’s Blood it carried.”

Ermin revealed the Potion of Genetic Expansion.

For a moment, Medusa was stunned. She smiled humorlessly. “You’re giving that to me? Weren’t you my mortal enemy?”

Ermin shook her head. “The day will come when I seal you away in my master’s place. But now is not the time. With my master’ death, you are our world’s only hope.”

“Oh? I’m your only hope, huh?”

Medusa did not refuse her. She took the forbidden potion and said: “I will wait until the last possible moment before using it. This potion is the Emperor of Alchemy’s ‘Gate of Truth’, not mine. I’m close to finding my own ‘Gate of Truth’.”

“Very well, then! I care not about becoming the hope of others! All I see is the powerful enemy before me!” Medusa happily smiled the smile of a gentle young girl, and returned to her alchemy table. She bowed down before her microscope and continued her research.

“The death and rebirth of cells, is it?”

Ermin smiled and quietly left.

She knew that Medusa was not truly evil at heart. She was simply willing to do whatever it takes in her obsessive pursuit of strength, and thought nothing of risking her life if it’ll get her to the summit of this world.

“In a way, you are the purest Mage of us all, willing to do whatever it takes in your pursuit of Truth… I pray that you will be able to find Death’s Truth.”

The Kingdom of Babylon, year 891.

Instructors of the Babylonian Magic Academy were leading their students on an excursion into the mountains when they saw a towering pillar of frost rise into the sky.

“What’s that?”

Their magic robes coated with rime, they pushed their way through the blizzard while shivering from the cold. When they reached their destination, they discovered hoary ruins decorated with murals reminiscent of Ancient Sumer.

As they excavated the ruins, three primitive murals appeared before them.

The first mural depicted the ancient farming era. A sky-spanning giant stood above a towering forest. He held in his hand three treasures, and was bending down to look at a tiny Bugape.

The second mural depicted a vast and prosperous city. A majestic king sat on his high throne, sword in hand, ruling over a mighty civilization that encompassed the entire world.

The third mural depicted a terrifying cataclysm. A vast giant stood above a mountain of corpses; the sword-wielding king had fallen, his blood pooling beneath him.

News quickly spread.

“Ruins of Ancient Sumer?”

“A tomb? How can there be a tomb? The Great Flood should have washed away everything!”

“Can it be? This tomb is the ancient tomb of Gilgamesh?”

This was a momentous event.

No one has seen a god’s true form in the Babylonian Era. Even Mercury had used avatars.

But Gilgamesh had encountered and conversed with God in all his glory. He had conversed with the supreme deity beyond all human comprehension, the creator of worlds—the legendary Creator.

Deep within a dark forest.

The butcher feasted, his chewing filling the forest depths with a disturbing grinding sound. Licking his bloody lips, he put down his meat hook, placing it by his putrid body.

“The research institute wants me to investigate a tomb, huh?” He turned and looked in the mountain range’s other direction. “Gilgamesh, is it? From the civilization before the Great Flood. The strongest man of Ancient Sumer, who dared to point his sword at God! I must reach his tomb before the other countries!”

In a prosperous city.

An eccentric headphone-wearing Wizard was walking in the streets. “I might be able to find ancient documents that will shine a light on this world’s true history! If I’m lucky, I might even find the Sword of Damocles.”

With the appearance of the tomb of Gilgamesh, the primeval King of Heroes, forces throughout the entire world began to move.
