Chapter 2040: I Hope Anan Has Completely Forgotten

She had merely intended to play a prank on the child out of dislike for him. Assuming no one would witness it, she never anticipated him not only observing but also adamantly refusing to let it slide.

Lvying reached her breaking point. She sobbed and pleaded, “Please, please stop hitting me! It’s my fault, entirely my fault! I shouldn’t have extended my leg to trip that young master. I beg you, please stop!”

Qiao Xuan raised her hand, signaling Liqiu and the others to cease. Yet, their gazes intensified, brimming with disdain.

This despicable person!

Qiao Xuan’s heart twinged with pain as she recalled her son’s cries. She uttered icily, “Why did you do it?”

Lvying felt too ashamed to admit her motive but lacked the courage to remain silent. Tearfully, she stammered, “I… I was just… just feeling bored and wanted to play a prank—ah!”

Liqiu couldn’t restrain herself and delivered another slap. “How dare you jest at the expense of our young master? What kind of vile person are you?”

Taking a deep breath, Qiao Xuan fixed them with a cold glare. “I won’t argue with you today, but mark my words, your recklessness will lead to your downfall. Leave now!”

Tang Fanghua and her attendant were on the verge of exploding with fury. What did she mean by “unlucky one day”? Wasn’t today unlucky enough? Anze Province truly proved inhospitable; its residents were excessively tyrannical and overbearing.

“You need to consider the owner before disciplining a pet. My maid was merely jesting. If you hadn’t neglected the child, none of this would have happened…”

Tang Fanghua shivered as Qiao Xuan cast her a frigid glance.

Apprehensive of another strike, Tang Fanghua’s voice dwindled. She swallowed the remainder of her retort, summoned two maids, and turned to depart.

Just you wait, she vowed silently. She’d return to this place and show them who could be provoked and who couldn’t.

Lvying’s hair was disheveled, her face a mosaic of red, purple, and white, every inch a canvas of agony. Her eyes, swollen and crimson, brimmed with hatred as she cast a parting glare at Qiao Xuan and her companions.

After their departure, Qiao Xuan descended the stairs.

Anan sat blissfully, relishing the milk pudding, his visage radiating contentment.

Qiao Xuan’s gaze softened, her heart melting.

Children were children—pure, guileless, and quick to forget. Soon, they’d be gleeful and carefree once more.

Qiao Xuan silently hoped Anan had entirely forgotten the recent altercation.

“Anan!”

Approaching with a smile, Qiao Xuan watched as Anan’s face lit up. “Mom, the pudding is divine! Here, have some too, Mom!”

“Sure, I’ll have some too. If it’s your favorite, then let’s indulge together!”

With a smile, Qiao Xuan settled beside Anan, gently clasping his small shoulders.

After enjoying milk pudding and sipping strawberry juice with Anan, mother and son returned home.

Shao Yunduan remained occupied and didn’t return until dinnertime.

By then, Anan had already retired for the night.

Upon sighting Shao Yunduan, Qiao Xuan felt the previously quelled grievances resurface, overwhelming her emotions.

Sensing her distress, Shao Yunduan was taken aback. He grasped her shoulders, his expression filled with concern. “What’s wrong? Who dared to mistreat you, my dear wife?”
