Chapter 2047: Everyone Is Dumbfounded

Shao Yunduan was taken aback by Tang Fanghua’s decision to defend Lvying. While he couldn’t help but feel a hint of admiration, it paled in comparison to his disgust for the servant’s actions.

Qi, equally surprised, resolved to defer to his Fifth Brother and Sister-in-law’s judgment, regardless of his own feelings.

However, Qiao Xuan’s response caught everyone off guard.

With a sneer, she spoke calmly, “I’m protective by nature. My son is innocent and vulnerable, yet this wretch finds pleasure in tormenting him. Is she even human? Such innate cruelty cannot be tolerated. I demand her life! Miss Tang, will you stand against me for the sake of this vile creature?”

The room fell silent, everyone stunned by Qiao Xuan’s declaration.

Lvying, paralyzed with fear, forgot to shed tears. Her swollen eyes bore into Qiao Xuan with a mixture of defiance and terror.

Tang Fanghua’s expression shifted from disbelief to condemnation. Despite her earnest pleas, Qiao Xuan refused to relent. Why was she so merciless? How could she advocate for violence over a minor transgression?

Moreover, as Qi’s savior, shouldn’t she show some respect?

But Qiao Xuan showed no inclination to accommodate Tang Fanghua. Instead, she sneered, “I’m going to make an example out of this wretch right now! Miss Tang, I’m asking you one last time: will you grant me this request or not?”

Lvying trembled with terror, casting pleading eyes towards Tang Fanghua, clinging to the hope of salvation.

Tang Fanghua quivered, engulfed by remorse, though her regret harbored a hidden truth.

She hadn’t anticipated such resistance from the Prefect’s wife. Despairingly, she glanced at Qi, only to find him averting his gaze.

Her heart chilled as tears welled in her eyes. “Madam Shao, you’re kind and compassionate. Despite this servant’s faults, she’s still a human life! I implore you, spare her! I pledge to discipline her rigorously from now on!”

Qiao Xuan scoffed. “Kindness is reserved for those deserving of it. Have you ever seen anyone extend kindness to a venomous snake?”

Tang Fanghua seethed with indignation. This humiliation was unbearable—a slap to her dignity.

“I won’t spare her,” Qiao Xuan declared boldly. “I’m determined to end this wretch’s life. My husband holds sway in this city, and his word is law. Whatever I desire, I attain. If I demand her life, it’s as good as done. Do you doubt me?”

“Miss! Please, I beg of you! Spare me!” Lvying pleaded, her voice trembling with fear as tears streamed down her pale face.

Tang Fanghua, swayed by Qiao Xuan’s confidence, appealed desperately, “Madam Shao, do you truly wish to become a killer?”

Qiao Xuan’s sneer deepened. “Do you misunderstand the value of human life? This servant callously harmed the eldest son of the Prefect. Even if I were to administer her punishment, she would still deserve it, wouldn’t you agree?”

Tang Fanghua choked back a sob, breaking out in a cold sweat.

She realized the truth—her life was expendable. Lvying had harmed a scion of the Shao Family, deserving nothing less than severe retribution.
