Chapter 2052: Why Isn’t He Here?
The joy of reunion soon eclipsed their earlier conversation. The three of them immersed themselves in catching up and discussing various topics.
Qi relished the moment as he finally embraced Anan, enjoying their time together and sharing hearty laughter.
After a while, Qi’s luggage arrived from the inn. He directed someone to bring in the wooden box containing gifts for Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan.
He presented Qiao Xuan with a box of gemstones, two white jade thrones, and a pair of jade lion paperweights for Shao Yunduan.
Among the gifts were also high-quality leather and unique gold artifacts.
Though not numerous, each item exuded extraordinary quality.
The box of gems alone contained twenty to thirty thumb-sized, flawlessly clear gems that sparkled brilliantly when the lid was opened.
Most of the gifts were intended for Anan.
The two of them sat on the carpet, examining the jade carvings one by one. There were miniature swords, jade horses, bows and arrows, golden masks, various animals crafted from gold and gemstones, as well as an assortment of intriguing bone and wood carvings. Anan’s eyes sparkled with delight at each new discovery. He cheered with excitement, his face illuminated with joy as he reveled in the company of Uncle Qi.
During lunch, Qi extended an invitation to Qin Yuanshan, Yuan Mi, and Tang Fanghua.
Tang Fanghua took the opportunity to freshen up and change into elegant attire, exuding a gentle and refined aura. She appeared neither embarrassed nor ashamed as she politely greeted Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan.
Impressed by her demeanor, Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan exchanged a knowing glance. This woman possessed a formidable presence.
Her composed demeanor only served to amplify Qi’s discomfort in her presence.
Qin Yuanshan and Yuan Mi were taken aback to see only Lvmei accompanying Tang Fanghua, particularly Yuan Mi.
As for Tang Fanghua’s two maidservants, their behavior had been increasingly erratic. Whenever Tang Fanghua engaged in conversation with Qi, they would interject, seemingly insinuating a rivalry for Qi’s attention.
Yuan Mi was infuriated by their antics and would have reprimanded them if not for Qin Yuanshan’s intervention.
Qin Yuanshan repeatedly intervened, urging Yuan Mi not to stoop to the level of arguing with mere servants. Such behavior would only demean them. Despite the maids’ arrogance, Qin Yuanshan assured Yuan Mi that their arrogance would inevitably lead to their downfall. For now, they should simply observe and wait.
While she didn’t want Qi to face any trouble, she acknowledged Tang Fanghua’s debt of gratitude toward him. Qi was the sole heir of Old General Zhao, who had aided Tang Fanghua’s family. Thus, if Tang Fanghua didn’t mind their presence, Yuan Mi would tolerate it. Nonetheless, she simmered with anger.
The absence of Lvying, particularly in Qi’s household, roused suspicion. Why wasn’t she present to curry favor with Qi’s sister-in-law?
Intrigued, Yuan Mi couldn’t help but inquire, “Miss Tang, why isn’t Lvying here? Where has she gone?”
She hoped to preempt any unpleasant surprises caused by Lvying’s sudden appearance.
Tang Fanghua’s genteel facade cracked at Yuan Mi’s question, her expression clouding with anger.
Quickly, Caiyue interjected, “That wretch is cunning. She used her influence to have our Mistress drive her away! Our Mistress won’t tolerate her presence and soil our home!”
