Chapter 1697: Chapter 1554: The Emergence of the Sea Race Army

“Retreat.”

After a long while, Su Bu finally issued a cold-faced order to all the navy members.

The First Naval Division army had already stepped into the city, and this was a genuinely defenseless empty city. It was clearly about to be occupied, so why choose to retreat?

None of the navy members and generals could comprehend Commander Su Bu’s decision.

“Did you not hear my order?! I said RETREAT!!” Su Bu shouted sternly.

Though the generals were deeply puzzled, none dared to defy Su Bu’s command.

The blue-armored troops began retreating along the main street, leaving the city.

On the main street, the sparse guards looked at the navy with bewildered expressions, even more puzzled by the sudden retreat.

When they reached the King’s statue, why did they suddenly pull back?

This level of army could easily conquer World City without breaking a sweat. There was no apparent reason for retreating.

Soon, the blue-armored troops fully retreated from World City and regrouped outside the city walls. As they gazed at the ancient and solemn city, the Wupan Navy generals remained thoroughly puzzled and confounded.

“Commander, if we fail to complete the mission, the deputy chief will be furious,” one general remarked, looking at the deserted World City.

“Let him rage then,” Su Bu replied.

The Wupan Navy was divided into factions; not all members followed the direct orders and commands of the naval chief and deputy chief.

“This… but at least give us a reasonable explanation, Commander?” The generals didn’t know what else to say.

“Reasonable explanation? When we passed through the Sea of Exile, the Seven Skull Sea Serpent King appeared ahead of us. If not for the King of the New Moon Land deliberately diverting the Serpent King’s attack direction, how many of you would have survived the power of a Lord of Nine Seas?” Su Bu sneered coldly.

The generals froze upon hearing this. They vividly remembered the scene in the Sea of Exile, even witnessing the Seven Skull Sea Serpent King heavily injured and escaping. Who would have thought that the high-level expert who severely injured the sea serpent was none other than the King of the New Moon Land!

Doesn’t this prove that this private land’s monarch is already on par with their naval chief and deputy chief, a figure of leader-level stature?

A small New Moon Land, how could it produce such an extraordinary powerhouse?

“Anything else you want to ask?” Su Bu said.

“But we should obey orders; personal emotions shouldn’t interfere…” the military advisor interjected.

Su Bu glanced at the military advisor. He disliked meaningless wars and detested twisting someone’s benevolence into ammunition for invading their territory.

If the high-ranking expert had not deliberately diverted the Seven Skull Sea Serpent King, they likely wouldn’t have even set foot on the New Moon Land, let alone invaded someone else’s city.

“We are the Wupan Navy Corps. If we stomp on someone else’s territory even after they’ve saved us, how are we any different from those scummy pirates who roam the shoreline?”

“We are NAVY, not PIRATES!” Su Bu emphasized sternly to his subordinates.

Su Bu’s words stunned the navy members, whose desires for invasion had grown strong over time.

Invading a territory without any valid reason fundamentally violated the original ethics of the Wupan Navy.

Moreover, if they invaded a land after being saved by its ruler, only heartless pirates would commit such acts!

Many among them loathed pirates, with some having joined the Wupan Navy because their own loved ones had been killed by pirates…

Wandering the oceans so often, they knew well that the New Moon Land was actually a pure and untainted territory. It didn’t deserve to be invaded for any reason, except for the greed of others eyeing its riches.

The corps began retreating slowly along the original route.

The guards of World City stood on the city walls, observing the somewhat dramatic scene below with bewilderment.

“Go, report what just happened to Wanxiang City,” World City’s General Shang Heng commanded.

“Understood.”

Wanxiang City still appeared somber and grim, devoid of its former prosperity and cheer.

The city’s guards were few, but every squad seemed meticulous and solemn, showing no signs of negligence.

Chu Mu flew over Wanxiang City from above and landed inside the New Moon Palace.

Inside the great hall was a rune letter delivered from World City, describing the situation there.

World City and Wanxiang City had established array diagrams for spatial communication, allowing the transmission of certain messages directly.

“What happened?” Chu Mu stepped inside the hall, addressing Liu Binglan.

“A navy corps suddenly appeared within World City,” Liu Binglan replied, her brow furrowed.

“How did they appear in World City?” Chu Mu asked.

“Possibly arriving from the North Sea, and they might have started moving a long time ago,” Liu Binglan explained.

“What’s the current situation?” Chu Mu continued.

World City was the foundation of the entire New Moon Land. If it were occupied, it would cause enormous losses to New Moon Land. It seemed Chu Mu would need to head over to World City again.

“They retreated,” Liu Binglan answered.

“Retreated?”

“Yes. They halted under the King’s statue and then suddenly retreated.”

“Which naval corps?” Chu Mu asked.

“The First Naval Division of the Wupan Navy.”

Chu Mu had long forgotten about the time he had inadvertently assisted the Wupan Navy’s First Naval Division. To ensure safety, Chu Mu still instructed Liu Binglan to dispatch several World Realm experts to monitor the movements of this navy corps that had ventured deep into New Moon Land.

“News from Wind and Rain City says the Wupan Navy’s main army is pressing in,” Liu Binglan added.

“I’ll go check it out.” Chu Mu felt somewhat uneasy.

Chu Mu turned into a shadowy light and swiftly disappeared from the hall and from Wanxiang City.

Watching Chu Mu tirelessly rushing everywhere, Liu Binglan felt a pang of sorrow. Chu Mu had never taken anything from New Moon Land, yet it constantly needed his protection. He bore too much responsibility for one person.

On the ink-colored ocean, fleets of warships raced across the water.

Their dense sails flapped vigorously as ocean waves split apart, a squadron of military seagulls in the air advancing in tight formation alongside the navy vessels, heading straight toward Wind and Rain City in New Moon Land.

Leading the fleet was a colossal monstrosity—a giant ship cloaked entirely in a deep brown sea king-grade armor. Its forward section resembled a sea beast with horrifying fangs, poised to devour everything ahead.

Should this ship sail directly into a harbor, it could likely reduce an entire small city to ruins.

On the deck of the giant ship stood a middle-aged man in a long trench coat, braving the roaring waves and winds with a military seagull-delivered letter clutched in his hand.

“East Madness Forest Battlefield… withdrew their forces?!” Vice Leader Tie Jun chuckled coldly, dismissively. “Bunch of useless worms.”

The East Madness Forest Battlefield housed an alliance of five major powers, boasting more than twice the military corps compared to their adversary. Moreover, their average strength should surpass that of New Moon Land’s forces. Yet, they returned empty-handed and suffered considerable losses in the process—truly pitiful and laughable.

“Deputy Chief, the First Naval Division is currently retreating from New Moon Land’s territory,” a military officer reported respectfully.

Vice Leader Tie Jun’s eyes sharpened coldly. “What’s going on? Did they encounter resistance?”

“No, it was Su Bu who gave the order to retreat.”

“He has some nerve!!” Tie Jun’s brows furrowed fiercely, his mounting anger swelling.

“Deputy Chief, anomalies have emerged in the nearby sea ahead,” another report from a military seagull interrupted.

“Stop consulting me over every little matter. If anomalies arise, deal with them yourselves!” Tie Jun snapped irritably.

“We can’t resolve this one…” The military seagull lowered its head.

“Useless lot,” Tie Jun cursed again.

The fleet pressed onward, but the sea ahead suddenly turned eerily calm.

Simultaneously, this calm ocean projected an unnerving coldness—the splashing spray striking their faces felt like chilled ice crystals, frosty and bone-piercing.

The cold intensified steadily, and the Wupan Navy Corps soon realized the waters ahead had become completely motionless, layered thickly with ice!

Frozen seas weren’t rare in certain regions of the world; the southern seas of the Wupan Continent were known for stretches of icy waters far and wide.

However, this was the Dark Sky Sea—a notoriously turbulent ocean with wildly surging waves. Even during the coldest winters, ice formation here should’ve been impossible.

“Could this be the work of New Moon Land’s forces?” Tie Jun mused aloud.

The ocean’s icy surface had solidified excessively thick, and to pass through, their fleet would need to ram their vessels through the rigid ice layers—a process guaranteed to damage their ships. After all, not every ship possessed the same durability as Tie Jun’s massive sea monster-like vessel.

“Summon Soul Pets! Destroy these ice layers!” Tie Jun commanded.

“Deputy Chief, there are creatures swimming beneath the ice.”

“Deputy Chief, the shattered ice is freezing over again instantly.”

“Deputy Chief, the Third Naval Division’s 3rd Navy Legion is under attack by underwater creatures.”

“Deputy Chief, hundreds of massive tornadoes are barreling toward the Fourth and Second Naval Divisions’ flanks.”

The previously calm ocean surface erupted violently in tempestuous chaos—a relentless chain of horrifying marine storms catching the Wupan Navy Corps completely unprepared!

The turmoil struck suddenly, but vanished just as abruptly.

The fleet rocked heavily; scattered fragments of ships floated across the sea, leaving behind a waterlogged wreckage. Slowly but surely, the ocean returned to its desolate tranquility…

The once-unified navy corps had been scattered and disoriented. Though the losses weren’t severe, the inexplicable wave of attacks left the Wupan Navy soldiers bewildered and still unclear about the cause of their misfortunes.

And then, as mysteriously as they began, the disturbances calmed into eerie silence.
